Not to get too political but I've always had a problem with the "get out to vote, it's your civic duty" schtick which people roll out at election time.
 
No, it's your civic duty to be informed and interested.
 
It isn't your civic duty to go out and vote at random, vote for the person with the best smile, or vote for the person with the best slogan. Sure, you're free to do it that way if you want but it isn't your duty to do it like that.

Lady P and I have both been tested in the past week. Results came back negative in both cases.

Found out a coworker from my last campus died this week of COVID. Been bummed all day. He was a good guy, chatted with him a bit almost every night when our paths crossed.

I echo what Old Man said.  We're all happy that you're breathing, and at least energetic enough to type.  I'll venture that I speak (type?) for many when I wish you a smooth recovery in the physical and mental/emotional arenas, and in the meantime I'm happy for whatever steps you take, however small.
 
For my part, I am stepping away from my dojo at least through the holiday season.  It's been a blessed emotional outlet and has also helped me see excellent fitness and weight loss benefits.  On the flip side, the holidays are coming, and I want to increase my safety precautions for the sake of older relatives.  Doesn't help that Minnesota is on the upswing in cases and deaths (along with many other states and nations).

Due to my depression flaring up with a vengeance, I was supposed to start seeing a therapist today.  My insurance would not let me televisit, so it had to be face to face.  Finished my 2 weeks of quarantine, went to the office and...
 
...was told I couldn't be seen today and had to reschedule because I needed to be quarantined for 28 days.  Which my medical reminder neglected to state in all of its COVID stuff.  Not to mention that I was TOLD 2 weeks by the board of health after I got my test results.
 
This is not helping my depression in the slightest.

The Governor held a press conference last night to announce a state-wide mask mandate. He's also requiring all college students and educators to get tested weekly, and he called for an end to social gatherings with people you don't live with. He stopped short implementing a lockdown, but he was very straightforward in saying that the time for debate and name-calling was done and that it was time to actually solve this problem.

I corrected the title. I expect no accolades for this.
 
I also resisted the urge to change the title to "Y Earth more stupidhead!"
I feel I deserve at least a golf clap for that display of willpower,  perhaps an indulgent "Yes yes, you're very pretty"

I just saw a headline (didn't bother to read the article) saying that the Trump boys are now calling out Republicans for not supporting their father vigorously enough. Because we all know how unconditionally supportive Donald Trump has been of his followers over the past four years.
 
I have a feeling this could get very ugly very quickly if/when the final tally comes out in favor of Vice President Biden.

You are quite right: US presidential elections are not democratic, and this was a conscious choice in the writing of the Constitution.
 
There's an old saw about legislation and sausage-making, and it applies even to the Constitution. Back in high school civics class I learned that the Electoral College was to protect the small states from collusion by the big states. On last weekend's episode of On the Media (IIRC -- the radio programs tend to blur into each other) a historian gave the sordid backstory: For "small states" read "Southern slave states" and for "big states" read "Northern industrial/commercial states." Even in 1789, these blocs were well established. The Southerners demanded various concessions as their price for staying in the new union, and got most of what they wanted. Even then, they were less urban, and therefore less populous. They played chicken with the very existence of the new United States of America, and it worked. We still live with the consequences because once again, a minority bloc sees it as necessary for its political power.

I was thinking (more accurately, dreading) the exact same thing earlier today.  We could be repeating this whole gruesome rigmarole in 2024.  And I can't see the Republicans helping things go swimmingly for Biden - to the contrary, they proved themselves to be the Party of No during Obama's two terms, and I expect 4 more years of the same.
