unclevlad
Bob Barker was an institution. He was perhaps the perfect game show host. NYT reports he passed away today. He was 99.

Well, except for this part... 😕 Quote But Barker’s made-for-television image took a huge hit 1994, when a former “Price Is Right” model accused him in a lawsuit of threatening to fire her if she didn’t have sex with him. Although the model, Dian Parkinson — a 19-year veteran of the show who had been fired the previous year — ultimately dropped the suit, Barker was forced to admit publicly that the two had had a less-than-professional relationship off screen. death tribble
And Cygnia posted about his death in the Extra Extra thread. Unless you knew the Price is Right he was not known this side of the Atlantic. He was in that Adam Sandler film but who watches Adam Sandler films ? But 99 is an achievement in itself. unclevlad
His 100th birthday would've been Dec. 12th, so he didn't *quite* get within 100 days of it, to win both showcases. Logan D. Hurricanes and Pariah

It should be noted that the affair started after Barker's long-time wife had died.
BoloOfEarth
A month or so ago, I ran a Champions adventure pitting the heroes against a circus-based villain team. The leader of the Big Top was a mentalist named The Barker, whose real name was Robert Wright-Price. The circus was named the Wright-Price Traveling Circus. If any of the players got the Bob Barker / Price is Right connection, they didn't mention it. Lord Liaden and Pariah 1
Lord Liaden
What was the players' age range? For the under-30s, when you mention the show they think of Drew Carey. Edited August 27, 2023 by Lord Liaden

Cygnia
Vanna White got her start in "The Price Is Right" -- as a contestant.

unclevlad
Sajak and White probably hold the record for longest-running showrunning duo. Checking...yeah, has to be, in the US. It's #3 longest running (behind Jeopardy and TPIR) but the Sajak/White combo has remained together for most of that run. 2 minutes ago, Pariah said: Not to be contrary, but.... Trebek was near-perfect for Jeopardy, but that's a *quiz* show, not a game show. The two require different skillsets. Given the HIGH level of involvement...yes, Trebek was probably the best host in terms of show management ever. I can't offhand think of any other game-related show where the host was essentially an equal participant to the players.
