Re: Calling all Archers

Unfortunately I reread The Longbow Hunters recently.

This was, of course, one of the original Iron Age masterpieces. It firmly separated him from his old silliness. And saying he is a meta is a step back from that...

Of course, I liked the old silliness, don't get me wrong. I haven't suddenly gone over to the Dark Side. But Longbow Hunters was good.

For the record:

AGREED

I find it really interesting that some of the best stories in comics involve Green Arrow, a somewhat B-Level hero. You have Long Bow, you also have the classic GL/GA Road trip, not including the best era of JLA books

INVASION! #3

The alien invaders drop a "Meta-Bomb" that makes any human who has metahuman powers sick/dying, it's up to the non powered heroes, aliens, and tech based heroes to save the world and they companions

Green Arrow got sick

so he is a meta human

Wrong conclusion. The Meta-Bomb affected anyone with the Meta-Gene. Such individuals have the potential to become meta-humans, but the vast majority are not Meta-Humans. Given all the scrapes GA's been through, it seems likely his potential is pretty low, or he would have triggered metahuman abilities by now.

It's not canon I know, but he was revealed to be a meta-human in Kingdom Come as well. IIRC, Bruce reveals that he's a Meta which allows him to make physically impossible shots.

Whether he's a meta or not, his abilities are superhuman, and not just because of his accuracy. He does make physically impossible shots. His speed/reflexes are superhuman. His eyesight is uncanny. I figure he's like older Captain America, with abilities that just barely cross the line of superhuman.

Re: Calling all Archers

Not sure why you're collecting these' date=' Jm, but I feel I should point out that the Champs Universe does have a modern archer as well (Straight Arrow) who will probably get a writeup somewhere, and two Scarlet Archers (the one in DH #17 is from the Silver Age, and he has a GA counterpart with the same name but less shtick (considerably fewer trick arrows.) dw[/quote']

Did Strait Arrow ever get stated out?

Re: Calling all Archers

I could post my archer Robin Fletcher, but he's not really designed for a conventional Champions setting. He's more of a high powered Dark Champions style character set in a post Apocalyptic Earth full of magic...

I could do a Champions rewrite for him I suppose, though he would lose a lot of setting specific flavor...

It should be noted that ALOT of people who had no apparent power got sick, large chunk of the population of normal (non-hero/villain) wound up having some power (The meta bomb basicaly awakened alot of people's powers)

That is also a retcon. Going WAY back into the dim , dark past of "Justice League" a villain developed a device that caused the "meta" heroes (from "Superman" to "The Atom") to be unable to function without possibly killing themselves. Only the two "Non super powered" heros , "Batman" and "Green Arrow" were able to function . This is well before characters such as "The Black Canary" joined the "Justice League" I might add.

Its funny' date=' I used to not like archer characters... but they're growing on me... which really hurts, having little men with bows growing out of my skin.[/quote']

That can only be caused by you looking at porn on the Internet!

Re: Calling all Archers

As far as archers who are supers are concerned, John Byrne's Lost Generation mini-series for Marvel featured a character called Ox-Bow who seemed to essentially be a brick with a bow. Never actually saw him in action, he was mostly in the background in action sequences. His girlfriend was an Eternal, as it happens.

Re: Calling all Archers

How many of those situations crop up in a typical campaign? And how many of them can't be compensated for by creative roleplaying, such as the Archer slinging the duffel bag or laptop in the air, firing, and then catching it when it comes down? I would allow that maneuver if the character took a -0, but disallow it if the character took a -1/4 or greater.

His point seems perfectly valid to me and frankly I allow it in my Supers campaign but then my player basically designed a real bow using the guidelines. I have found most of his situations mentioned DO crop up in my campaign. I guess not in yours so its not worth much.
