Re: Musings on Random Musings

Dear Idiots,

"Syntax Error" is never helpful. Never, not even when worded as "The formula you have entered contains an error". It wasn't helpful with Stone Age Fortran in 1974, and it's not helpful in Excel now. Thirty-six F***ING YEARS of software design practice and you still haven't learned this? Go take all 111,000 lines of C source code, inscribe them on granite flagstones one line per stone, and stuff them up your ventral orifice.

Love,

Cancer

And it gets worse when its discovered that it was just a missing semicolon.

Absolutely. Consider the sudden explosion of book covers with scantily/leather clad heroines, often against a dark cityscape, armed with anti-vampire daggers or crossbows. I am unlikely to buy these books, but I admit they are awfully nice to look at.

Also, book covers tend to have the author's name on them, making it easy to avoid anything by Donaldson.

Too bad you can't buy just the cover...

Cancer is wise.

I suppose I should be inured to Excel suckitude by now. I remember it couldn't do a simple linear regression plot until, I think, 2000.

I remember being initially pleasantly surprised that one version of Excel claimed it could do Fourier transforms. Then I tried it out, it could only accept as inputs even-power-of-2 points, and it couldn't read its own output. That rates an "F" from a junior-level numerical analysis/programming class.

That cover is telling me "There is no story here. So look: Hot chick who's dangerous!"

The first part of that statement is the defining article.
