FenrisUlf
Re: Mjolnir They hate us too. That sounds like the best explanation I've ever heard for the whole thing. Unfortunately.
austenandrews
Re: Mjolnir And I like "Mjolnir as a vehicle" angle. Probably wouldn't do it that way myself but it's clever. That is rather... creative, isn't it?

For a while, it seemed that to direct a movie based on a comic book character you had to profess an absolute hatred for "funnybooks." We the fans are nerds, the uncool kids, never touched by a lover, devoid of social skills, dirt poor and borderline homeless, etc, etc. Even the theater geeks rank above the Sci Fi Club kids in the schoolyard pecking order. Openly self-identified geek directors like Tarantino and Raimi are rare. The growth of the tech sector has helped; it allowed, for a while, introverts to make as much money as the cool kids. We may owe the few good Comic Book movies we get to Bill Gates.

Is this why they chose to let the movie rights be sold to Peter Jackson instead of just taking Uwe Boll's offer like every other video game company? Chuckg
Re: Mjolnir While Bungie Studios existed well before 'Halo', Microsoft bought out Bungie Studios in 2000. So, Microsoft owns the company that owns Halo.
Snake Gandhi
Re: Mjolnir Interesting question. Does Microsoft own Halo or just publish it?I fairly sure they own all the right, and if they don't Bungee does. MS owns the hell outta Bungie, so all is well. As for the movie, Microsoft actually hired Alex Garland (who wrote 28 Days Later) to write the script before there was even a deal. They then took this finished script and a couple pages of conditions (namely that Bungee Studios has final say on what can and can not be in the movie) and shopped it around to every major studio, seeing who offered the best deal. So while MS has done some crap, they seem to be saying "This movies gonna get dsone right, or not at all." And since Halo 2 hold the single day record for most money made (it made more its first day than Spider-Man 2, the movie) it think its a smart move. Chuckg
Re: Mjolnir Actually hiring a writer to write a story before allotting money for SFX, producer's hot tub, or whatnot? Is that even *POSSIBLE*?
Lord Liaden
Re: Mjolnir Who are you refering to' date=' out of curiosity?[/quote'] Well, Tim Burton for one, when he was being wooed to direct a new Superman film. It's part of a convoluted plot surrounding that thankfully-aborted project that Susano transcribed here a while back: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38941
FenrisUlf
Re: Mjolnir I will ask again: why would anyone with any common sense hire somebody to write superhero stories, either for comnics or film, when said potential author has publically and repeatedly stated that they hate superheroes, and has made their hatred pathetically obvious every time they're hired? Because that person has a proven record of getting people to buy their stories or see their films. I've known and worked with people high up in the corporate world; very few of those at the top read, watch or think about that much outside of their jobs. The owners of Time Warner and Universal are not Superhero fans. They know that people buy Millar stories and watch Smallville; how Millar, Al and Miles feel about Superheroes isn't an issue.
