Jomster
In the spirit of the threads from Bloodstone and CrosshairCollie, here's another on a much-loved character type - the Martial Artist. The rules from the other threads are working well, so let's follow that and have just one entry per post please. No matter how hard you try, at some point you will, repeat will , make some silly marital arts noises when attacking! Hiiiii-yah!
Marketeer
Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist As a Martial Artist, you command the subtle powers of chi manipulation, and possess the delicate grace of a dancer. In nine cases out of ten, this means that bricks with Area of Effect scenery are not your best opponents.
Trebuchet
Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist There's a good reason you have a higher SPD than most of your teammates: You're going to spend a couple of Phases each Turn Martial Dodging or Diving for Cover. "Good things come to those who wait." - Hold Action as often as possible.
Manic Typist
Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist You need to have snappy dialogue and comebacks, because sometimes, that is ALL you can do. Besides, it's expected.
Haven Walkur
Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist No matter how much you love your biggest, baddest Martial Arts attack, stop and consider the effect it'll have on your DCV before you use it! Haven Walkur
Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist Many martial arts are Asian in origin. When naming your martial arts manoeuvres, look up a few words or phrases of the appropriate Asian language. Reeling off a manoeuvre-name in, say, Chinese, gives the character a touch of the exotic and does wonders for the player's suspension of disbelief. OddHat
Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist If the GM allows multi-power attacks using maneuvers, you rule; otherwise, you should have just gotten yourself bitten by a radioactive spider. GoldenAge
Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist Teamwork! Pair off with someone who who's great at grabs (a Brick or TK specialist). They grab, you target the grabbed opponents head and pimp-slap him into oblivion! GoldenAge
Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist Massage the Speed Chart until it asks for you phone number! Never let the opposition know what your Speed is. Go on 1,2,7,11 and (if you can) always hold on phase 12 (while still receiving your Recovery). As bad as you are, you're usually the only normal guy out there. It's a chess match and you've got all you pieces... use them wisely. tgrandjean
Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist Use the fact of your usually obscene DEX to your advantage. You've got the skills. Use stealth to get a good drop on your opponents, climbing to get into a good position (assuming you don't have Swinging or the like), and consider using sleight of hand to remove likely OAFs from your opponents... Just don't try swiping an object out of the local brick's hand.
GoldenAge
Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist Impair, Impair, Disable!!! Turn that Brick into the Black Knight... "What're you going to do, bleed on me"? It's an effective way for a high OCV character to pick apart an otherwise superior opponent in a team environment. Usually such an attack (at least the first one) can be considered a surprise = bonus OCV). It's also allot of fun!
TheRavenIs
Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist Always consider the battlefield, as a MA your best friend can be the very object's on that battle field. I had a MA that any focus of oppertunity, he could use almost anything he could lift into a weapon, but it required the right kind of object to grab and use. Think Jackie Chan with super-powers. TheRavenIs
Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist In the same as always consider the battlefield, always consider the people you are fighting. Sometimes they become the best weapons you have. If your good enough you can plan you actions to have your enemies, hurt each other for you. GoldenAge
Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist Martial Grab and Interpose!!! Then toss your head back and laugh as the other team's Brick Haymakers their own teammate right into la-la land. I think that the human shield was actually invented in a Shaolin Temple circa 540 AD. GoldenAge
Re: The things I've learned playing a Martial Artist One day you're goin' down... Best be able to bounce right back up! Yup, it's true: Sooner or later you are going to get knocked on your kiester. When that happens (and it will) you better hope you have Breakfall. In fact, if you're sure that there's nothing behind you, it's not a bad idea to Roll with just about every HTH attack possible, thus reducing the damage by half. A prone Martial Artist is everyone's pansy.
