WWYCD: The Life Pod

Wormhole

Recommended Posts

Recently, something that looked like a small spacecraft was found frozen in a glacier near the Arctic Circle. Upon being excavated from the ice, it becomes apparent that this craft is a life pod from a larger vessel. Inside, controls, readouts, and marks are in a language no one on Earth has ever seen the the likes of, but much of what's on board is recognizable for what it is. The cramped compartment is stocked with survival equipment, a cashe of hand weapons, and what can be presumed is a supply of emergency rations. Also aboad is a stasis chamber, surprisingly still functional considering how long the craft is believed to have been buried in the ice, and with one living occupant inside in deep hibernation: a hauntingly beautiful humanoid female with light blue skin and dark blue hair. Your character and his/her team have been called in to help transport the stasis chamber, which is conveniently self-contained enough to be removed from the pod without interrupting its functioning, back to an UNTIL base in Canada. Upon arival at the base, there is much debate over whether or not it would be wise to try to awaken the alien from stasis and what precautions should be taken if such an attempt is to be made. WWYCD?

All characters: Once the package has safely been delivered to UNTIL, people with better traininging in this than us can take over. We'll defer to their recomendations.

In my campagin world, the existance of ET's has been known since 1894. There is over a century of planning to cover situations like this.

Tao, Eve, Valkeyrie and, suprisingly Shidoku assuming she somehow go tmized up in something this high level woudl leave it to better trained hands. Shidoku would mutter about feeling like she was in a horror movie and want to just blow the things up but that woud mostly be bluster; she'd be curious.

Ivy, having experienced consesuqnces of out of control extra terrestrial life before would opt fot the highest quaruntine and containment protocols possible at all stages of the operation. Given her skills and experience she would probably be one of the Top (wo)men brought in. Extra terrestrial life is known but so far no true first contact situations have occured, the potential gains too much to pass up but the precautions she'd demand would be almost paranoid.

Re: WWYCD: The Life Pod

Vitus would thaw her out, after making such precautions as he deems neccesary.

ie. having
ESP
on from the moment she wakes up, in case she's lying about being a innocent victim or what not

a high explosive necklace fitted *before* she wakes up, just in case firey decapitation is indicated.

then, should she in Vitus's opinion prove worthy, urgent recommendation to her to get off the planet while she still can, Earthlings are all barbaric and insane.

Truman/Zero would avoid getting involved. Women of any species are too intimidating

Re: WWYCD: The Life Pod

Soulbarb should in most games not get mixed up in something like this. She tries to avoid making her existence known in the first place, has no business in the Arctic Circle for another, and knows nothing more about aliens than any civilian in her world for a third.

Sylph might stand a slightly better chance of meeting said alien, if instead of the alien being stuck in a glacier she were stuck in an iceberg that had floated south toward New Constantinople. She doesn't really know much about aliens or technology either, though. She'd defer to UNTIL and let them worry about things like quarantine conditions and so forth; the only reason she'd be around is if bringing the woman out of stasis goes wrong and the woman needs healing to live through it. (That and help contain any potential threat the woman might represent, though Sylph wouldn't look at things that way.)

Quantum - If consulted about awakening the female, would insist on a series security precautions before any effort is made. Would like to see if any telepath can get any reading on her before she is awakened. Try to find someone who can build a translator, or someone w/the ability to be a translator. Most importantly, try have the lifepod examined BEFORE she is awakend. Might be some clues that could determine if she should or should not be awaken.

Spectre - really does not care. If she tries to harm an innocent, then he will get involved.

Stone - She's hot! Let her out. How can anyone that hot be bad?

Re: WWYCD: The Life Pod

Daedalus: One of his fellow team members on Vanguard, Exemplar, is basically an ancient alien demigod who came into being when the universe was young. Also, the team's origin and first adventure involved being the point people in fending off the first actual alien invasion of Earth, and they managed to capture one of the invader's motherships.

Between Exemplar's knowledge and the alien databanks, Vanguard should be able to figure out who and what the alien is, and whether it would be wise to awaken her. Not to mention the fact that Exemplar can sense Evil and Virtue as well, which would also be helpful in the decision-making process.

Quetzalcoatl: He and a number of his colleagues have the equivalent of Universal Translator. They'd be able to read what the words on the pod say. Quetzalcoatl himself posseses both telepathy and retrocognition, so he could either look into her memories or her past directly to determine what kind of person she is.

Of course, this is assuming that he and his friend Hermes don't accidentally awaken her first while messing around with the pod. :)

Warp: His team, the Sentinels, is currently hosting perspective member Princess Cyrande of Malva. They'd ask her if she knew who this being was.

Spectrum: The ancient Progenitor Probe which transformed him into his current state also downloaded a whole lot of Progenitor Knowledge into his subconcious that occaisionally surfaces into his concious mind sometimes (Uncontrolled Skill Pool). Seeing her might cause the pertinent Culture Knowledge to pop up and let him know her origin and most likely dispostion regarding the people of Earth.

Barring that, he is an officer in the Air Force on detached duty to his team as government liason. If his team can't figure anything out about her, he probably knows experts or people who can get in contact with experts who could figure it out.

Riptide: She's teh hawtness, isn't she? How is not defrosting her even an option?

Wizard: Figure out just how long the stasis pod has before it runs out of power anyway.

Hellfire: We're in the business of helping people, aren't we?

Re: WWYCD: The Life Pod

Jake the Troll - We've already established that she's hot, so he'd go on the Jake Richards Color Theory of Hot Chick Morality. Is she wearing black? If not, then she's ok. Jake can get away with this because he is Myth Made Manifest - his own nature warps reality around him to match up with Myth, Story, and Legend. Thus, this theory actually works when he's around.

Shinji Miromoto - would examine the Dark around her, and try to ferret out her fate and destiny via passive magics - if said dimensional energy is freaking out, then he'd advise the UNTIL folks about it. Otherwise, he'd leave it in their hands.

Icon - Emma would probably be on the UNTIL crew itself, if only as one of their metas. She'd go with what her training suggested.

Frosty Bob- dayum! She's hot. Let her out......woohoohooheehooo.

Badger- Would surprisingly suggest letting her out, he is a half-alien, and would surprisingly have a bit of sympathy (though cautiously). And forcing to leave someone in hibernation like that indefinitely could possibly be offensive to him on moral grounds. (Artificial suspended animation, he considers cruel and an abomination unless absolutely necessary, as in disease, non-FTL space travel and the like)

Marksman: Would recomend a high state of readiness, take the weapons to area 51 for storage, talk to some friendly aliens to find out about race, and barring anything to negative say wake her up and bring in the experts

The Rose:

I don't see his name popping up on UNTIL's premier pick list but if given the chance he would accept; after all he is an Ambassidor, and afterall he is a Letcher. He would probably eventually vote to free her IF he could get a mental scan done of her that would let us know her intentions, and not a moment sooner! If that wasn't an option then he would go with what UNTIL's decision was and abide by it.

Marrek Katharazul:

Ex-Mage working with UNTIL in exchange for protection. Yeah he would probably be on the list they use. He wouldn't be very keen on the idea of EVER releasing something, but if he had to. He would take a Looooong list of precuasions to ready himself.

Re: WWYCD: The Life Pod

The first thing the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) must do as a global safeguard against the inevitable UNTIL fubar is to get the craft to Deep Ice as fast as possible. Dodger and Catamount (in their civilian guises as UFO investgators)would locate the pod, send the co-ordinates back to Tranquility Base, fire up the "plane-shear"(a teleporter designed to move heavy objects, like flying saucers),and send it to Deep Ice deep beneath the Antarctic continent where it nothing can get out and away from any populated areas. If anyone asks, a GDI agent will tell them "we have top men working on it right now" and dissappears.

At Deep Ice, Hummingbird would be able to read the markings with her psionic translater powers to determine weither or not the craft is indeed a life pod with a fortunate survivor or a prison pod holding a very dangerous being. Dr. Teemo Aarkinnen, the worlds most reknowned xenobiologist could then determine the biology of the woman and adjust the medical and atmospheric requirements needed to keep her alive. Cyberseer might be able to find out if her race has been here before, possibly looking for her for whatever reason. The rest of the Sapphire Squad would be on stand- by in case this woman is indeed a genuine threat

Re: WWYCD: The Life Pod

This looks like a job for MINDFLAIR. She could read the woman and answer questions about her thoughts and intentions. If there were any danger, she'd probably pick it up. She'd be in favor of reviving the woman if it could be done without inadvertantly killing her. She would say that efforts to revive the woman should not proceed until the stasis device was understood enough to do it safely, for the woman and the bystanders.
