X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central

This is to announce the creation of a new X-Men: The Next Generation game on Hero Central. It is 30 years in the future and the heroes we read about in the comics are dead or retired, and their children are now stepping up to fill their shoes. This campaign will share the same universe as the Avengers: The Next Generation and New Thunderbolts campaigns on HC, which are the same general idea (characters in those campaigns are listed down below). I'm looking for six PCs for this campaign. In a perfect world, we'd post about once a day or so with obvious holds and pauses as things like real lives interfere, but I'm not going to be that fussy about it. We'll take breaks at times but if you only think you can post once a week, this campaign isn't for you.

Basics:

• This is a legacy campaign. In that regard, I expect the characters to be the children of former X-Men or, alternatively, some of their established foes. Everyone should be a mutant. By “X-Men”, it’s X-Men, Excalibur, X-Force, X-Factor, New Mutants, etcetera. Any of the myriad of X-teams. If you want to stretch, you could conceivably be the mutant child of another Marvel character, but most characters will be X-Men-related children. That being said, not knowing who one or more parents are is good roleplaying fodder, so “I’m a mutant and don’t know who the folks are” also works and we’ll work the “discover the parents” angle into it as we go through the campaign. Also, if the player is amenable (and I’ll run this by you before doing it), your parentage may not be as thought. Basically, if you’re OK with me screwing with your character’s background I’ll do it, but if you want to be from a nice, normal stable background that works as well

• Campaign feel is Bronze Age. As it’s the X-Men (which was generally darker than the other major titles), it’ll have bits of Iron, but only very small bits. I don’t expect to kill off PCs, and I expect that PCs will have an at least reluctance to kill. Even if you build a Wolverine clone, build a Wolverine clone with at least some self-control. It’s still a four-color campaign.

• I don’t have a definite timeline in mind for what in the usual X-Men history has happened and what has not. It’s pretty open; I expect the backstories you write for your characters will fill things in and we’ll just toss the rest in as we go. Outside of the intro to the campaign written in this thread, I don’t really have anything of any sort formally planned, so we’ll just work it out as we go.

• Characters should be 450 base plus 150 disadvantages (600 total). General active point limits should be around 75 points or so. No real limits outside of that. I, of course, reserve the right to reject any powerset that seems overly powerful. Or if I’m just being a big jerk. Skills will be very important.

• All characters must take a 10-point Distinctive Feature: Mutant (Always Noticed and Causes Major Reaction, Detectable Only By Technology Or Major Effort).

• All characters will need to take the following package:

  • 1 TF: X-Jet
  • 3 Paramedics
  • 2 KS: Mutants and Mutant Menaces, 11-
  • 3 Teamwork
  • 3 Stealth
  • 10 points for contribution to vehicles and base (yes, the real cost should be higher than that, but, well, I don’t feel like doing the actual math)

• Characters should be young adults, not teens. Think more the Wolverine-Banshee-Nightcrawler group rather than the original five teenage students.

• For specific characters, Jean Grey is dead. Came back to life, hung around for a while, then died. For good. Probably. You can indeed be of the Grey line if you like, but if you want to be associated in some way with the Phoenix, be from Arizona.

• Colossus is dead. I liked his heroic Legacy virus sacrifice, and he gets to stay dead as a reward.

• Colonel Kitty Pryde is currently the head of SHIELD and has no children.

• Seriously. Kitty Pryde doesn’t have any children. Let it go.

• That being said, plenty of X-Men stories have come from alternate realities. If you want to be the child of the AoA Blink or some other reality (kind of like Nocturne being the daughter of the alternate-universe Nightcrawler and Scarlet Witch), go for it. Yes, that means you could indeed make a character who is the daughter of Kitty Pryde and Colossus, for example. The “alternate realities” bit does mean you have a lot of leeway in character creation but, if you’re going to go this sort of route, your background had better be really good. REALLY, REALLY GOOD.

• Characters with powerful abilities who still wield big guns and wear uniforms with lots of extraneous pouches will be killed on sight. Death to the Liefeld spawn!

• This campaign will be set in the currently existing Avengers: The Next Generation and New Thunderbolts universe, and any characters will need to fit into the current world. I’ve been consistently impressed with the writing and roleplaying in those two campaigns and am hoping to have the same quality in the X-Men campaign. Both those campaigns are being GM’d by teh bunneh, otherwise known as keyes_bill on these here boards. I hope to do as good of a job as him. And yes, I’m only saying that to suck up for better XPs for my characters in those campaigns.

The following characters already exist in said universe:

• Arachne (daughter of Spider-Man)

• Ms. Marvel (daughter of Ms. Marvel)

• Hornet (son of Hank and Janet Pym)

• Banner (son of Captain America and Diamondback)

• Iron Girl (daughter of Iron Man)

• Cinnabar (daughter of the Vision and the Scarlet Witch)

• The Black Knight (daughter of the Black Knight and Sersi)

• Eva von Doom (daughter of Dr. Doom)

• Batroc (daughter of Batroc the Leaper)

• Stilt-Girl (daughter of Stilt-Man)

• Electron (daughter of Electro)

• Journeyman (son of Bulldozer)

• Crusher (son of The Absorbing Man and Titania)

• Dynasty (grandson of Kang)

• Raptor (son of Black Panther)

Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central

Campaign background:

Charles Xavier is dead.

Xavier lived for one thing—peace. Peace between mutant and human, peace from the pointless bigotry and prejudice that drew battle lines based not on ideology or nationality, but a simple quirk of genetics. Xavier had dedicated his entire life to finding common group beyond Homo Sapiens and Homo Superior and, in many ways, had succeeded; after the emergence of mutantkind, the world had faced years of turmoil and conflict as fear and ignorance drove a wedge between baseline humans and mutants. However, within the past decade, mutants had become progressively more accepted into society. Polls showed that the great majority of young people held no ill will towards mutants and, while older generations were more reticent about acceptance, the overall outlook for peace was better than it had ever been.

The torch of leadership for peace between human and mutant had been taken from Xavier some years back by a new group; the Mutant Equality Foundation. This private foundation had been formed with the goal of not hiding away mutants or finding ways to respect differences; their view was that mutants were as human as anyone else and, rather than focusing on the slight genetic differences that gave mutants their great powers, the world should focus on the fact that, genetically, mutants are almost identical to humans and, while the differences that exist are significant, they don’t outweigh the commonalities that exist between us all. Fueled by good press, private sponsorship, and overt praise by the superhuman community, the MEF has sprouted branch offices all over the world, providing economic assistance, social support and, importantly, education. The MEF Academies existed to teach, train, and tutor mutants who sought their help. They were clean, free, and generally considered to be excellent institutions for learning both academics and control over mutant abilities. This, of course, put them effectively in direct competition with Xavier’s Institute for Higher Learning, but the MEF Academies had the advantage of being very public and very accepted; if you were a mutant at the MEF, everybody seemed to assume you’d turn out all right. If you were an X-Man, well, people had been distrusting them for years and were less likely to be willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. As time wore on, less and less students came to Xavier’s school and, one day, recognizing the inevitable, he did the unthinkable.

He shut down the Institute. And disbanded the X-Men.

The X-Men had been founded to try to build a lasting peace between human and mutant and, finally, that peace seemed to have come to pass. Painfully, it had come not at Xavier’s hand, but at the MEF’s, but even Xavier had to admit that the work the MEF had done had been spectacular. Mutants were rarely harassed, generally accepted and, most significantly, occasionally completely ignored, their mutations being considered unimportant enough to even notice, the mutants themselves being accepted as completely normal regardless of ability. Xavier’s old students and friends still kept in contact, though the few that had gone to work for the MEF always felt he was never as open to them again in the future. Though he would never admit it, he resented the MEF, and he never could quite forgive those of his students who had gone on to administrative or teaching positions at their academies. Still, many of his former students remained close friends, which made it all the more painful when they had to watch Xavier start to decline.

Charles Xavier had been an amazing man. The most powerful psionic on the planet, he was a brilliant scientist, a great teacher, and a respected father figure but, in the end, he was a man, a man whose body broke down and then, tragically, his mind. Near the end of his life, Xavier refused to see most of his former students, instead relying on the care of several trusted close advisers who had to watch as Xavier physically and mentally faded away. At the end, only one was really left. Hank McCoy had been one of Xavier’s first students, and was his final caregiver; there, in his last days, he didn’t want anyone else around. Xavier had become progressively more distant to any of his old students affiliated with the MEF, and, in his last months, had refused contact with any of them.

Finally, Xavier passed. Students and foes alike came to pay their respects and, aAfter the funeral, McCoy had asked a small number of his old most trusted colleagues and fellow students to meet with him. Then, he dropped a bombshell—Xavier had declared Hank McCoy sole beneficiary of his will. McCoy followed that with a second shocker—he was reforming the X-Men. As most of Xavier’s former students now worked for the MEF or believed in their mission, this was, to put it gently, a wildly unpopular move; open combat was barely avoided. While his friends left in disgust, they did at least agree to keep the location of the X-Men’s home base a secret, preserving at least some of the secrecy the group had long cherished.

Now, with a new group of mutant heroes who joined for glory or honor or to relive the legacies of past heroes, the X-Men live again.

Yep, post them here. If nothing else, during the T-Bolts and Avengers ones it was interesting to see everybody's concepts and comment back and forth. Would prefer them pasted into the thread and with attached HD3 file, but the file isn't necessary. If you don't have HD3 don't worry about it.

Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central

Let's see. Some concepts over the years:

Angel Daughter of Psylocke and Archangel; telepathy, winged flight, non-focused "soul sword"

Deimos & Phobos Identicle twin sons of Daniel Moonstar and Dogpound; telepaths and lighweight bricks

Flux son of Polaris and Havok; touch range transformations, reshapes metal by thought, destroys foci (especally power armor)

Hip Hop son of Frenzy and Toad; limited invulnerability, super strength below the waist only, master of Capoeira, affects a Caribbean accent despite being born and raised in Jamaica, New York

Mongoose son of Viper and Wolverine; Martial Artist with regeneration, few enhanced senses

Shadow Wolf son of Shadowcat and Colossus; Ninja with desolidification

Steel Shadow daughter of Shadowcat and Colossus, younger sister of Shadow Wolf; brick, density control from desolid to several tons

Wildcat son of Jean Grey and Wolverine; berserker martial artist, psionics only when not berserk

I believe half of these have already been disqualified by the GM.

Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central

Hellion II

Real Name:Hanzi Logan Wagner

Occupation: Adventurer

Identity: Public

Legal Status: Legal Resident of United States with No Criminal Record

Other Aliases: None

Place of Birth:

Marital Status: Single

Known Relatives: Kurt Wagner (Father), Amanda Sefton-Wagner (Mother), James Howlett (Wolverine, Godfather), Raven Darkholme (Mystique, Grandmother)

Group Affiliation: X-Men

Base of Operations: New York City, NY

First Appearance: X-Men Presents - Hellion #1

Origin: X-Men Presents - Hellion #1

History: One of the last students to stand by Xavier before he closed the school, Kurt Wagner, formerly known as Nightcrawler, decided that he would carry on his former teacher's dream as a solo hero. Staying in New York, he battled evil mutants and became something of an urban myth, protecting Hell's Kitchen alongside of Daredevil, while providing spiritual advice to those in need at a local mission.

It was in this mission where he ran into his old lover, Amanda Sefton, who herself had sought Kurt out to insure his safety. The two quickly fell in love again and, within the year, were married. Together, they forged a new life together, one that had Kurt playing hero less and less. To fill the space of his former antics, Amanda suggested that he write memoirs of his adventures with the X-Men. Intrigued by the idea, he began writing, but, by the time he had finished his first book, he was no longer writing about his past, but rather of a fantasy warrior he named Freebooter. As soon as the book was published, it was an instant hit, breaking the NY Times book list at #1. It was also around this time that he and Amanda became parents to a mutant boy they named Hanzi Logan Wagner (Logan after the child's godfather). Lke his father, Hanzi was born with a thin coat of fur, but unlike his father, his fur was coal black and his eyes were an eerie green.

As the years went on, Kurt had written several adventures of Freebooter, as well as other stories, and occasionally snuck out of the house to help his friends fight one evil or another. But he always made sure that he had time for his family. Kurt quickly taught his son how to fit in and to not be afraid of what people may say, while his mother home schooled him in general education and a touch of magic. By the time Hanzi was twelve, he asked that he be allowed to attend a school with other children. Though Kurt protested at first, Amanda insisted that he placed in a MEF Academy to learn about his abilities, as well as to interact with others.

While at the MEF, Hanzi never felt entirely welcome. Though there were others with obvious mutations like himself, he found that many of the kids there didn't accept him because he hadn't been in school with them. On one incident, when Hanzi was 14, a fellow student made a claim that Nightcrawler was a coward for not helping the MEF. Outraged, Hanzi lashed out with incredible agility, beating the child within an inch of his life. Suspended for the violence, Kurt and Amanda called Hank McCoy to examine the child. Within a few weeks, Hank learned that Hanzi had gained powers similar to his father: teleportation, great agility and blending fur. But, he'd also been granted the ability to summon forth a sword of magic like his mother had been able to, as well as having a natural affinity for magic and a type off night-sight.

Not returning to the MEF Academy, Hanzi decided to study with his mother for a bit, learning what magic that he could from her, as well as getting some hand to hand training in with his godfather. When Hank McCoy had called forth for a new team of X-Men, Hanzi, with the blessing of both parents, answered, taking on the name of Hellion.

Height: 5'9"

Weight: 187 lbs.

Eyes: Green

Hair: Black

Strength Level: Hellion possess the strength of a man his age and build who works out regularly in gymnastics and acrobatics.

Known Superhuman Powers: Hanzi Wagner can teleport an unknown distance. It's been suggested that his limits are a bit less than his father's, but only time will tell. He also has the ability to blend into shadows with uncanny ease, as well as having inhuman reflexes and an ability to see quite a distance in the dark. Because of his talents for magic, he can summon forth a blade akin to a soul sword, as well as having a healthy dose of magic at his disposal.

Paraphernalia: Upon taking up his role as an adventurer, his mother made him a costume with some of the material from his father's old outfits. The costume provides him with some environmental guard, in addition to working with his natural blending ability.

Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central

Here's my concept...

He's called Blūd~StrΩm. He has the power to, like, kill dudes with his powers. He's like super-strong and faster than anyone and he has all these knives that are powered by his powers, and he's from the future where mutants are kept by rich guys, like cattle. Evil rich guys. And he escaped by killing a whole lot of dudes and then he met this hot mutant chick with, like, the power to travel through time, and they had sex and then the rich guys burst in and killed the girl but before she died she sent him back through time (but he killed them all before he left). And also before she died she gave him the Pheonix force, but he has total control over it and doesn't need to eat planets and stuff (unless he feels like it, 'cause he totally could if he wanted). And pouches? Hellz yeah he got pouches! And like 40,000 teeth, too. And thighs thicker than his waist. AWESOME!!!11!:cool::king:

Characters with powerful abilities who still wield big guns and wear uniforms with lots of extraneous pouches will be killed on sight. Death to the Liefeld spawn!

What? Aw, darn. :(

Viper and Wolverine are currently the focus of one of the solo storylines in the Avengers: The Next Generation game (the Ms. Marvel: Family Business thread). Not saying this to discourage you, but just to make sure the background for the character jibes with what's already going on in the Marvel Bunnyverse. :)

Let us not neglect to mention that the New Thunderbolts game was run by Supreme Serpent, aka el Generalissimo Serpiente*, who had to drop out due to Real Life pressures. Whatever was good about that game is 99.9% to his credit.

Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central

Background

Subject: Mutant 10139, Codename Gray Golem

Surname: Helm; Christened: Gregory George

Date of Birth: April 1, 2017

Birthplace of Record: Richmond, Virginia

Mother: Alice Hamlet

Father: Jeffrey Madison

Until age twelve, the most notable qualities of the adopted son of professors Alexander and Lorna Helm were precocious mathematical and musical abilities and an IQ in the top two-hundreths human percentile.

At age twelve, the subject reported pocket change began rearranging itself in his hands, which he soon realized through attempts to turn this knack into a sleight-of-hand show for friends and family to be a form of contact-induced magnetism.

Transfer to MEF allowed steady development of this Rank Three talent into a phenomenal ability to shape, control and power the movement of ferromagnetic substances on contact over the course of years. Helm left MEF at age sixteen, and record of his activities were lost.

Lengthy efforts to investigate the whereabouts of this subject in the intervening four years have been unsuccessful. It is apparent that Helm had help, and additional training beyond that offered at MEF, to effect this disappearance. Speculation since his re-emergence based on demonstrated skills and aptitudes suggest significant international travel and contact with advanced technology, as well as covert tactics.

Greg Helm speaks no less than a half dozen tongues other than English, although at MEF he was only known to study Spanish and Cantonese as foreign languages. He is an accomplished climber, not least due to his ability to magnetically cling to surfaces which normally have negligible magnetic potential. Helm obtained a pilot's license in Oregon eight months ago.

Indirect observations of this subject have proven that he has continued to train and extend the potential of his mutant gift. It is possible that he has used technology to augment his genetic abilities, given the dramatic growth from a sixteen-year-old capable of magnetizing forty pounds of iron to his skin to his current demonstrated capacity. What was a joking nickname by a classmate at MEF has realized terrible heights.

At peak effort, Mutant 10139 is capable of controlling slightly over six tons of nickel-steel alloy in powder form. With this quantity of metal -- which forms a three meter tall husk around the subject -- Gray Golem is capable of exerting lift strength beyond 100 tons, and demonstrates magnetic levitation, magnetic containment shields, the ability to form and exude magnetically-guided projectiles and wires, as well as of course benefitting from the effective armor of a modern tank.

Limitations: Other than extruded projections, Greg Helm has not shown any aptitude with generating or controlling magnetic fields indirectly. He relies on generally substantial amounts of ferromagnetic material to achieve any level of effect at all. Without metal, Helm has the general physical condition of an adult male in his early twenties who regularly participates in intense exercise and training. Helm does not demonstrate any special capacity to reshape pieces of metal or exercise fine control of individual metal items using his mutant power.

Helm's preferred self-defense practice appears to remain the same Judo he participated in while a student at MEF. Helm was top in his cohort among those with no mutant physiological adaptations, for this martial art.

Helm remained a musical prodigy at MEF, mastering repertoire, choral, orchestral and popular, with particular skill in violin, piano, clarinet and guitar. He was, and likely remains, a remarkable audio mimick who is noted to have entertained his classmates with ventriloquism, throwing his voice into their instruments, for example.

Helm's instructors in sciences at MEF list him as an indifferent student, despite his earlier promise. There is some indication that this may have been due to motivation, as Greg Helm's last recorded reading rate exceeded 5,000 words per minute, and his reading comprehension level was, at sixteen, a preternatural 98%. (This last would have counted as a Rank One mutant ability in itself; note the average comprehension level of a college graduate is approximately 33%.)

Testing at MEF for psychic potential indicates the sort of latent ability noted in some mutant lines, but psionicists report no success in unlocking that potential with this subject.

Secret: No record of 'Alice Hamlet' and 'Jeffrey Madison' corresponding to the birth parents listed for this subject could be found, other than the birth certificate and hospital records. There is evidence of tampering with patient records, and as such the natural parentage of the subject remains in doubt.

Top Secret: Interagency cooperation with Sabra II indicates that a young street performer corresponding to the physical appearance of Gregory Helm was associated with activities in Cairo related to Operation Beauty. Details disclosed under separate cover.

Eyes Only: Psi Intel confirms that Gray Golem exhibits some form of mental shielding, indicating either training or unlocked latent potential.

Psychological Profile: Greg Helm is a high performer, who is motivated by pleasing others, but intensely self-directed and given to competing with himself to extend and exceed previous accomplishments. His psychological evaluations from MEF indicate high value associated with positive, life-affirming attitudes. Despite his languid academic performance in sciences, the intensity of his scientific curiousity should not be discounted. Greg Helm will use his intellect for deception and misdirection after the fashion of a stage magician or street performer. He places no trust in surface appearances himself, and may tend to paranoia if even the smallest indications of "things not as they seem" are let on. This personality type can be the life of the party, but he will seldom be the hero of the stories he tells, preferring to reflect the light of others back onto their source, more focussed and refined.

Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central

I am, a passable player but have little ability to stay focused. However, the muse of character generation controls my life.

That said this concept is available should someone want to actually create it.

Singularity

Real Name: Unus Norton Dukes

Identity: Secret

Legal Status: US Citizen with no criminal Record.

Other Aliases: None

Place of Birth: American Samoa

Marital Status: Single

Occupation: Adventurer/Librarian

Known Relatives: Fredrick J Dukes (father, Deceased), Eleen Dukes (Mother), Carmella Unuscione (Godmother)

Group Affiliation: X-Men

Base of Operations: New York City, NY

First Appearance: X-Men Next #1

Origin: X-Men Presents - Singularity #1

History: Though he was nearly immune to physical harm, Fredrick Dukes, better known to the world at large as the Blob, had lived a hard life. It was catching up to him. Having at long last put his villainous ways behind him, served his time and left everything he'd ever known to die in peace on a tropical island; Fred was surprised to finally find love. Eleen Watkins had it rough as a kid. She too left everything for a new start after her marriage failed. They met when he came into her bar. It wasn't love at first sight. It was fear giving way to sympathy, then to shared self pity, then a brief bout of co-dependence followed by marriage. When Eleen was pregnant Fred was beside himself with Pride. He contacted a few of his old buddies and sent a request to the daughter of his best friend Angelo Uniscione.

Unus Dukes was born to loving parents who did their best to raise him in as normal of an environment as they could. His father's health began to decline when he was still quite young, but Fred willed himself to spend quality time with his son. Fred Dukes died when Unus was 17. He had seen to it that when his son exhibited similar mutant powers to his own that he was trained in their use and given direction. When Hank McCoy made his intentions known to begin the X-Men anew, word got back to Eleen. She informed Unus and he requested that he be able to join. Now he seeks to make his father proud of his legacy.

Height: 6'6''

Weight: 540lbs.

Eyes: Blue

Hair: Brown

Strength Level: Singularity has superhuman physical strength, though at the time of this writing he hasn't been accurately measured he's somewhere between Class 75-90.

Known Superhuman Powers: Singularity has specific localized control over gravity. In this regard he can will himself to become nearly immovable. Though his abilities are as strong as the Blob's he is a bit more conscious in his control, meaning that he can be caught off guard and and moved more easily than his predecessor. Also, where the Blob had superhumanly strong and durable fatty tissue, Singularity seems to have superhumanly dense musculature; akin to that of the Asgardians and Olympians. His physiology gives him a high degree of resistance to physical, energy, and chemical attacks. Singulairity can also leap tremendous distances by reducing the effect of gravity on his person. It is theorized by Dr. McCoy that he could develop True Flight.

Appearance: Unus Dukes is tall and powerfully built, he has somewhat "pretty" features, curly brown hair and blue eyes. As Singularity, he wears a standard X-Men uniform. If he could get away with it, he'd wear a short cape.

Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central

Two characters I'm gonna work on and see how they pan out:

Colossus II: the son of the original Colossus and Nereel, one of the Fall People from the Savage Land. This character has been introduced into X-continuity already, and so would be in his 30's by the time of the campaign - which would make him older than a lot of the other characters probably, but that could be balanced out by a huge chunk of naivete and unfamiliarity with the world outside of the Savage Land...I sort of see him as a super-strong metal Ka-Zar, journeying beyond the Savage Land for the first time to learn about his father's legacy.

The other idea was Night Cat, daughter of the Black Panther and Storm. Fighting abilities/enhanced senses etc along the lines of her father, with magic and biosphere sensitivity from her mother. So I don't see her actually controlling the weather as such, but in subtle ways it reacts to her mood...also she'd be able to sense the presence of mystical energy, disruptions to the local EM field/atmospheric disturbances, stuff like that...if it suits the campaign I see T'Challa and Ororo happily retired from active superheroics and grooming their daughter to take over rule of Wakanda, which is politically one of the most important countries on Earth. They would be supportive of her adventures with the new generation of X-Men, as they want her to learn as much as she can about the world to better support Wakanda's place in it.

I'll flesh out both of these tonight or tomorrow and post what I come up with! :)

HOLY POOP. I so need to get into this game.

Unfortunately I just bought Ultimate Speedster so my head's all full of super speedster ideas (now if only the X-families had a speedster that wasn't gay, didn't have serious sister issues, or both at once, maybe I could think of an easy way to have one spawn a kid) (yeah, yeah, I know Quicksilver's been married and all that, I was just making a joke).

My thinking cap is officially on, though. I've got enough favorites among the X-families I'll think of something, don't doubt it.

For actual character submissions (wrapped up character sheets, etc), do you want them posted here, PMed here, PMed on Hero Central...?

"I was born in a flood of black stuff. It was Cairo. My parents wanted to kill me, but Doctor saved my life. He thought I'd clean up, that he could help me, but it comes from me. He put me in a cage, then a bigger cage, then he figured out how to use me. I was raised online, mostly in a shipping container by remote control. It was better, because I had friends online. That was how I was rescued. This good cop, Lt. Danny Malone, spent two years tracking me down."

"I was scared sh..., uh, witless when the bad cops burst in, guns drawn, to arrest the only person who'd ever touched me. I screamed and black stuff ran like mad, and all they could do was scream back at me and wave their guns around."

"Firemen cut the bars, but I wouldn't come out. Eventually some special ops guys drew straws, and the loser came in, shut me up, and strapped me to a gurney. He was a mess by then." Jane smirks. "I'm really sorry now, because the cops really didn't shoot anyone, and I guess we could have had weapons."

"Anyway, Lt. Danny shows up and really chews them out. He called around and got me assigned to Clara Whittington in LA. She's really busy, but she's great. Clara got me into COSBI, Childcare Outreach - Sybil Brand Institute, a care program for criminal dependents. That was a rough couple of years, and it was mostly my fault. I ran away and lived on the street a lot, but Clara always found me. Not that I could hide very easily."

Here are some filks of Compassion doing her thing -

We now return to Compassion's tale.Break>

"Then Mamacita Placida shows up. She was from El Salvador, didn't speak English, and worked for the Janatorial company. She would slip into the rooms of crying children and rock them back to sleep. The night nurses covered for her till I made her all black. She didn't mind, but her boss did, he fired her. Clara had kittens! She called the supervisors, congressmen, senators, and threatened to have her whole church do sit-ins if Placida lost her job."

"That was the turning point for me. I felt awful. I swore to be like Clara and Placida. She became a night nurse and is learning English. Doctor is in prison, like, forever, and I stopped running away, and cared enough to start learning to control my problem, instead of just hating it and using it as an excuse."

"Clara says, ain't no problem so bad that hate can't make it worse. Once I turned around, I took some tests to show how smart people are, and, with six months of studying, was able get into Sky High. Only, I bet Clara pulled strings for that, too. I thought what I had was curse, not a power, but I could almost keep it in check, and I really wanted to be a hero."

"Then I inked on this flame chick. She called herself Flambe. She'd been teasing me, so I was all nervous, and, well it was an accident. She got mad, so I let her have it for real. That was the first time I put everything into it, and the whole room went black, and I could feel everything, and no one could see. It was awesome. I was DeLight!"

"I kinda went wild again, got mixed up with a villain that taught me more about my powers. I broke some laws and got kicked out of school, but I never hurt anyone -- I hadn't forgotten Clara or Mamacita Placida. After probation Clara put me in another school, a really good one, and I got myself some real friends that started calling me Inky. I learned that, after not hurting people, and doing good, well, there's nothing more important than friends. That's when I chose my own name, Compassion..."

Let's cut to the chase. I want to play Compassion after graduating from high school. She's currently an NPC in my HC Campaign -- the Academy 2, where you can find her current character sheet. It should be abundantly clear that I have put a lot into this character, and she would be played with a passion. I would rewrite her for the campaign, but her back-story, pesonality and history would not change much. - Jim

Background/History: It was not an easy life for Theresa Rourke-Cassidy. Becoming an X-Man was something that could be dangerous to the body and mind, and it wasn't too easy on the heart either. After an often turbulent romance with Maddox, the multiple man, Therasa was happy to withdraw from superheroic activity for a time and get her bearings. When the MEF started up, she threw herself into this new cause, and it was there she met yet another Multiple of the Multiple man, and this one? She fell completely in love with, and he with her.

It wasn't too long that Therasa was with child, and sure enough, nine months later, Patrick Sean was born. It went down hill from there. While his parents threw themselves into the MEF, going so far as to donate Cassidy Keep to the program, young Patrick felt increasingly second place in their lives. Just as sometimes it is the children of preachers who grow up to be the biggest hell raisers, for a time, it seemed Patrick would do anything just to stir up trouble and get his folks attention. That included stealing cars for a time. He even tried to keep his powers secret from his own parents. In typical teenage contrariness, while it was okay for his folks to notice him because he might get in trouble with the law, it was totally out of the question for them to notice his mutant abilities.

Still, when there are suddenly two 16 year olds sneaking around where there was just one, and both of them having sonic powers not so dissimilar to their mother, well, both of his parents had tried their hands at being detectives and were hardly stupid besides. They tried to push him towards getting help with his powers with the MEF, but Pat bucked against the idea like a mule, even going so far as to run away. They didn't follow. He figured that proved they didn't REALLY care.

The real reason would prove to be utterly sobering, and quite the wake up call for the young man. It was a week after he'd run that Patrick saw the news about his parents being murdered. The police had no clues, and Patrick was too stunned to seek them out. Instead he drifted, getting to know his powers better on his own. Finally, he would turn to the MEF and ask for their help. Their suggestion? Let the police handle it, and if the case has been dropped, there isn't much we can do. We're not here to avenge anyone...

Patrick felt his parents' memories had been betrayed completely. The very organization that was 'saving mutant kind' wasn't willing to bring their murderers to justice. Patrick began perhaps the world's clumsiest investigation, his natural preference for doing instead of thinking working against him in detective work. He realized too late he should have paid attention to the suggestions his parents had given him on criminal investigations. He had to make ends meet as a Repo man, ironically still 'stealing' cars, just now more legally.

If not for a chess piece found at the time of the crime that he was sure didn't belong to his parents, Patrick wouldn't have had even a starting point. Discovering there was a new Hellfire club wasn't easy, breaking into their club was. Getting out alive? VERY hard indeed. Clearly, Patrick Sean needed to curb that temper. Yet his weakness for the ladies of good looks and sad stories, and his need to keep himself busy conspired to keep him in trouble. He made more enemies, Kin like Black Tabby, daughter of Black Tom, and strangers, like "The Animal" son of the Mandrill. Even the two of him wasn't enough.

Years later, when Hank McCoy announced the reforming of the X-Men, Patrick Sean Rourke-Cassidy was one of the first to show up. Patrick looked McCoy square in the eye, "Answer me one question, and I'm in. Do the X-Men still take care of their own?"

The answer, of course, was yes.

Personality/Motivation: Stereo "Give me ANY name but some Irish beastie, will you? I'll get razzed about the accent bad enough" is only twenty one, and finally has shed some of the worst parts of his selfish immaturity. The greatest catalyst was the death of parents he never appreciated enough, and now misses terribly. He did not stand by them, and now, seeing the price, wishes more than anything he could do it over. The MEF, he thinks, make the same mistake he did, if for different reasons. They don't take care of their own. It's a lesson he's decided to take to heart and is his main motivation for seeking the X-Men out.

That said, Patrick is still a sometimes impulsive young soul who prefers to DO something, rather than sit on his hands. Let others do the thinking, he'd prefer to roll up his sleeves and get to work, or to the fight, or whatever. Sometimes this pays off, but it just as often gets him in trouble. Further, Patrick has a true weakness for the ladies. He lets their beauty go to his head before taking other factors into account, and a sob story from a pair of pretty blue eyes can often send him recklessly off on whatever lady's behalf.

Quote:"And a fine fair day for kicking your ass it is I think."

Powers/Tactics: Like his mother and his grandfather, Stereo can utilize his sonic powers for a variety of effects, most of them offensive in nature. His vocal chords are multilayered, and can produce multiple harmonics at once, at varying intensity. He can hit pitchs that shatter rigid plate, or notes that stun the unshielded listener straight into unconsciousness. Wide spread, or a more personalized blast, all these are in his power. He can also use them for less offensive effects, including flying, stopping incoming attacks, and even using his sonics to go through solid objects much like his grandfather did (Though it makes a terrible noise when he does so, no stealth power this). Unfortunately, if gagged and prevented from getting the proper 'build up', or if dealing with a vacuum as found in space, his sonic powers are denied him.

This isn't to say he's helpless. Stereo lead a fairly rough and tumble life in his teen years, and broke many a pool stick over a head in his day. His hand to hand training is more 'O'Cally's Pub' than any dojo, but it serves him well enough. And , of course, he's a bit of his father in him too. The name of Stereo refers to more than just his sonic gifts. While limited only to TWO forms, unlike his father, Stereo still has back up in the form of himself. Unlike Maddox, Stereo has a telepathic link with his extra, and vice versa. While not as good as using merging and parting to heal himself, Stereo is getting there, slowly. Fortunately, BOTH end up wearing the protective unstable molecule clothing that guards him even when his sonic shields are down.

As for tactics? Stereo knows how to use team work well enough, and is usually fine when a fight is going, but between fights, he often grows restless. He prefers to leave the thinking to others despite the fact he is no idiot. He doesn't like being separated for too long. It makes him nervous.

Campaign Use: Well, hopefully as a character I can play, but somethings might bear fleshing out:

"Mad Doc" is a duplicate of Maddox that is, well, frankly speaking, out of his mind. Mad Doc mumbles to himself, he paces, he is harmless, but clearly not all together there. Every once in awhile though, Mad Doc expresses some bit on genetic research, some useful commentary about sciences that might just be what a hero needs. Stereo tries to keep an eye on Mad Doc, but doesn't confuse this fellow for his late father, no matter how much they might look alike.

Black Tabby (Short for Tabitha) is indeed her father's daughter, with wooden focus for her powers and all, though being a wise girl she's added a few tricks to HER club beyond the blast she channels through it.

The Animal is actually less powerful than Stereo, unless you count in the number of women he can throw into Stereo's way, or even super powered ladies he's taken control over with his pheromones.

I leave the New Hellfire Club mostly open to GM fiat as it should be, but I'll be happy to do more home work if needed. :)

Appearance: Out of costume/Uniform, Patrick is a handsome fellow, broader at the shoulder than his father was, with long dark brown hair that he keeps in a pony tail most of the time, and sparkling green eyes. He's considered growing a goatee, but keeps putting it off, instead seeming to have a perpetual bit of '3 o clock shadow' and scruff. He prefers blue jeans, and casual shirts for ease of movement.

As an X-man, his outfit is standard spandex (Mask to protect ID) but with a jacket for style's sake, and he prefers to have a Green X...after all, he IS Irish. Might as well personalize.
