The Weapon Posted June 3, 2008 Report Share Posted June 3, 2008 Why would you rather be yourself than the characters you play? e.g. I'd rather be me than my cyberpunk character because... the nurses at the trauma centre aren't on a first name basis with me. nobody thinks I can get them drugs and if they did they wouldn't get homicidal when I didn't give them any. when something is stolen none of my friends assume it's me, nor do the authorities. vampire princes have never gotten irritated with me. I'd rather be me than my pulp hero character because... I'm free to go to Germany without being arrested and sent to a camp somewhere on (entirely correct) charges of sabotage, homicide, grand theft auto, grand theft airplane, destruction of military equipment, espionage etc. the FBI doesn't have a file on me and I've never had to sign any official secrecy agreements. I'd rather be me then Lauren, because her mother's dead, her father is a jerk and her friends think she's crazy (in the bad, knock her out so she doesn't hurt them or herself sort of way). My characters usually have to walk or ride extremely long distances while lacking proper toilet facilities, shower facilities and internet connection. Very few of the things that I regard as necessary to civilised existence can be found in the worlds my characters inhabit. A few examples include. PS2. I-Pod. Kendal Mint-Cake. Divine Chocolate. I'm not hopefully naive when it comes to morality questions of right and wrong. I'm not acting out to recapture a lost childhood. I'd rather be me than Darkless because: Carrying around an Abyssal symbiot under the skin of your back in uncomfortable. Being on a first name basis with the Prince of Hell is...uncomfortable. Having no sense of hope or the greater good is depressing. Never being able to see the sunlight for fear of it burning you to death is more emo than I care to be on a day to day basis. And both personalities have some major hang ups, and no family. I'd rather be me than Seer because I'd rather not be filled with self loathing and always intruding on the mental privacy of others, who was basically given to PSI by his family because he scared them. I'd rather be me than Ranger ..because hs life is way to dark, confusing, and one day hes going to find a bad end, and die unmourned. I'd rather be me than Hornet because...because.......hmmm He's a 45 INT character, young, great physical shape, can take off the super-suit and be normal when he wants, science skills to hell and back, fairly wealthy, loving wife, daughter, loves being a super-hero, leader of a very well respected team that works together well in a great city, upstanding guy, CvK, still takes the briefcase fusion plant out for a walk every now and then, makes the world a little better in and out of heroic identity...umm, little help ??
