teh bunneh
Re: Ctrl+V Chokecherry Jam Remove stems from chokecherries and wash, then drain. Add 1 cup of water to each four cups of fruit. Place over slow (or low) heat and simmer until fruit is very tender, stirring occasionally. Rub pulp through medium sieve. Measure pulp and add an equal amount of sugar. Place over moderate heat and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Bring to a full, rolling boil until mixture "sheets." Stir frequently. Pour into hot, sterile jars filling 3/4 of the jar. Seal and process in boiling water bath for 15 minutes, then cool. You may freeze if you choose. Three cups of pulp make about 3 half pints of jam. Ragitsu
Re: Ctrl+V Also, Uma Thurman sitting out in the night, reading Jerome's stats sheet --- and then tossing it aside, frustrated because she feels that Vincent is so hopelessly out of her league --- is one of the most memorable parts of this movie for me. It's cute and romantic (the way she feels about him)... but also ironic (she THINKS she feels that way about him just because of his awesome stats, when in fact, he is actually faking those stats). Ragitsu
Re: Ctrl+V -Shinji subverts the hero archetype by failing, being a coward, falling into a deep depression, giving up, etc. -Asuka and Rei aren't much better in that respect. -The series doesn't do what you expect it to do; it goes from being a monster-of-the-week mecha anime to an existential meditation on life carried out through the psyche of its characters. -Near the end it begins abandoning its narrative in favor for thematic exploration, which requires a lot of work from the audience to keep up. -It ends without resolving its narrative in the tradition sense; certainly in the TV ending, and even a bit in the film ending. -The narrative itself is extremely complex, relying on subtle motifs, minuscule nuances, symbolic ques, and allusion to tell much of its "story within a story", and it demands multiple viewings to put it all together. IOW, it does all the things that superficial entertainment avoids like the plague, and in doing so it challenges an audience who aren't ready for, aren't up to, or don't want (in any way) that kind of a challenge, and they react negatively.
