WWYCD: Getting the cat out of the cradle

Your hero finds himself on the losing side of a fight with a supervillain. The battle has been fierce, but for just one ugly moment, it seems the villain has you dead to rights. Then suddenly he's deep fried from an electrical surge from behind.

 

"He'll live," A voice tells you, "He'll just be out for awhile." You find yourself facing another villain, one you know by reputation only.  Black-Volt's been in the villain game for decades. While he robs banks and the like now and then, it is rumored the man doesn't take kill (Though he does play rough if someone is out to kill him), or endanger women and children. He's been and out of stronghold once or twice, but he's escaped that before. Black-Volt also has severe million in gemstones rumored to be squirreled.

 

"Got a moment, kid?" The grizzled villain asks, and then explains his problem to you.

 

"I've got a son, see. I never paid him as much attention as I should. I mean, it was the result of a one night stand. But he's got these powers, his mom says. Like mine. Idiot woman told him who his dad was, REALLY was...and now he's got this idea of following in the old man's footsteps. I'm a great villain, but a lousy dad. I worry that if I just tell him 'say no to crime' he's gonna laugh in my face, or go off and 'prove himself'. So I'm thinking...what could be cooler to a teenage boy that following my footsteps? I'm thinking sidekick to a hero... or partner whatever they call it, would qualify. You take him under your wing, and I'll turn over all my stolen goods to the authorities and even let you take me in. But I want your solemn word you'll teach him right from wrong like I never learned and train him to be a hero. We got a deal?"

Gryphon from Earth-842 would agree after checking out the facts. 

 

Adamas from New World Order would agree after checking out the facts. 

 

Blindside from Protectors TNG would introduce him to Renegade II. 

 

Steelwing from Shattered: Aftermath would agree instantly to a partnership, but as part of a Government Super Team would need to clear it with them. 

 

Safeguard from The Robert Kaufman Academy would try to get the kid enlisted at his school.

Scardey Cat looks at him like he's crazy.

 

"Yeah if you think sticking him with me is going to be any teenagers  idea of "Cool" one of us doesn't know what that word means. The whole sidekick thing just isn't going to work. Not that I'm opposed to helping you out. You did just do me a big favor. So hows about this. We set the word sidekick to one side, and he and I just hang out for a couple of weeks. He'll probably call me lame and wander off in three days, but ..Well I was gonna say it'll at least keep him out of trouble, but  I don't really have the best track record on that."

Quazar - "Shake on it, and we've got a deal."  Quazar would escort Black Volt to Primus headquarters, find the kid, then use is many contacts to enroll him in Ravenswood Academy.

 

Mystica - "The child, he is no a mystic?  No matter, I have to time to take apprentice.  He will make his choices, like you did, like all do.  So long as he stay far away from mystic power, he will have no trouble with me."

 

Shadowhunter - "Thanks for the assist."  Find Weakness roll.  "I appreciate your offer to surrender."  Offensive Strike, call shot to the head.  "And don't worry about your kid."  Offensive Strike, call shot to the head.  "You'll serve as a great example..."  Offensive Strike, call shot to the vitals.  "of what happens if he breaks the law in MY town."

Dr. Proto: Would rather die than be a father figure to anyone.

 

Stark Raving:  Agrees, then probably gets 'sidekick' killed in one of many berserker furies.

 

Pinball: Agrees, but the biker-bar lifestyle probably isn't the best environment for any kid.

 

Ken Lightning: Agrees, sells 'sidekick' on black market for parts.  (Shadowrun)

 

The Spartan:  Sometimes the jokes write themselves, you know?

Bolo:  given his powers are also electrical in nature, Bolo would likely relish the idea of training a sidekick.  Though like Scaredy Cat, I doubt the kid would find it "cool" to hang with Bolo and be an associate member of the Ann Arbor People's Justice Co-Op.  (Not exactly Avengers-level rep, y'know.)

Bolt also has electricity-based powers. He would agree but not as a sidekick. Bolt would take the boy to join him on Garret's Crew. Garret is a first-gen super (world is second gen) who trains new supers. He's had many successes over the years and only a few have gone rogue on him.

Darkstar would freak out at the suggestion. He's still suffering PTSD from the accident that gave him his powers and has enought trouble coping with his own life. He'd be sympathetic tot he request, he is decent person, but no way.

 

Knight Sabre, power - armoured Japanese heroine would agree. She's also rich enough to be able to take the kid on as a ward. The poor shmoe would probably develop a hopeless teenage crush on her, all anime stylee.

 

Grodna, the Last Guardian of Oona, self-appointed protector of Earth from inter-planetary threats, would cheerfully take the kid on. He's a bit naive when it comes to Earth culture and humans. He's also a poet and something of a dreamer when he's not super-heroing so he'd see the chance to help mould a young mind as a wonderful opportunity to do some positive good. The inevitable teen rebellion would confuse him but not deter him.

 

Edited for spelling. It's better to mould a young mind rather than mold it.
