Hi, this was a fail. Don't look at this

Recommended Posts

I've had one-line sql queries that took days to get right. Do your three lines of code work, at least?

They did, finally. I still have no idea why the code I originally wrote never worked, though.

Since this was my final project, and I was able to present it successfully, I suppose it doesn't matter now.

When I was learning C back in the early 1980s, it outraged me that "if x = y:" and "if x == y:" were both syntactically valid code snippets yet did grossly -- no, catastrophically -- different things. I swore that "feature" was implemented in the language purely to yank around the fortran programmers (of which I was one) trying to learn it.

My first programming language was, of course, Basic. I got to be pretty good at it. When I graduated to other languages, I was shocked and dismayed that I could no longer rely on my trusty GOTO statements.

I eventually got over it. I consoled myself by singing "We all live in a yellow subroutine...."

Got an A in my Astrophysics/Programming class!

(Yes, I am aware of the irony and/or inappropriateness of posting such news in this thread. I just figured it was a good way to wrap up all the programming talk and get back to failure in general.)
