Law Enforcement agencies (San Angelo)

In honor of the recent National Police Week, we present the San Angelo area law enforcement agency patches. Enjoy.

I've been playing with some award and medal designs and doing mock-ups of uniforms, using Photoshop to add agency patches, etc., to actual uniform shirts. Here are a couple of samples.

In a nod to my favorite cop show, the San Angelo Police Department has been given special "rockers" designating specific precincts and some special units. Here they are.

I'm assuming there is a special anti-super team in the police department. A sub-team of the SWAT team trained especially in the use of hi-tech equipment to capture and contain outlaw supers, or to kill them if there is no other option. What would this sub-team be called? AS-SWAT?

I'm guessing that would be the PART unit, PART meaning Paranormal Advanced Response Team.

 

But I could be wrong about that.

In our published setting it's the Paranormal Alert Response Team (P.A.R.T.). Advances in equipment since the original book will see them utilizing special powered armor (see below).

 

The Sheriff's Department has it's own version, called the Sheriff's Armored Felony Enforcement (S.A.F.E.) Team. It's a team of highly trained deputies in powered armor, much like the City's PART unit.

 

The basic powered armor used by both teams is based on the Cavalier armor of the 1990s. It has anti-ballistic plates, basic air filtration, enhanced strength, an enhanced sensory suite, communications system, a handful of defensive systems, and less-lethal weapons available, all monitored and controlled via a modern Heads Up Display (HUD). Additional modules are available which convert the suit to a more specialized role. These include the Flight module, Lethal Force module (sometimes called the "sniper suit"), a Heavy Weapons module (called "big guns"), and an Environmental module (called the "Haz-Mat" suit).

 

There are four squads of six deputies each. Each squad has two Flight units, two Heavy Weapons units, and two Lethal Force units. (The SAFE team does not maintian any Environmental units.)

Yes, P.A.R.T. and S.A.F.E. units are good. But not all police units can afford power suits. Then again, this supplement is not for all areas, only San Angelo.

 

And not all police agents like P.A.R T. units. It is expensive to equip and maintain. An officer with a gun filled with "brickbuster" bullets may be a cheaper option in some outlining areas.

Even the US, with its unusually fragmented law enforcement agencies, has agencies that operate across larger jurisdictions. Most, if not all, states have state level agencies. And if that doesn't work there are federal agencies. (The latter, presumably, would cover most of the various territories as well.)

Any law enforcement agency in the US (and its territories) would be able to call on higher level support.

That is true.

 

But forget the fact that old police Cavalier armor will fall into criminal hands (As the police get hand me downs from the military when they get new armor, the old police armor discarded will most certainly be salvaged and adapted for crime. Not counting criminals outright stealing the armor from the police and military).

 

In other words, don't count on hi-tech to reduce the arms race between the police and criminals. Brickbusters (bullets designed to harm armored supers), stuners (bullets designed to release an electric charge when hit, along with penetration) are two examples of tech designed to harm supers.

 

And I expect this world to develop weapons with a similar idea.

 

GRG are free to use "brickbusters" in the product. It is basically a KA with Armor Piercing, Penetrating, and Negate Reduction on it. No bouncing off these bullets Superman.

As a thought, it's possible that there are mermaids in the rivers.  After all, they, connect, via the Sacramento River to San Francisco Bay.  If so, a friendly mermaid could assist the county sheriff's boat detail, or any other law enforcement agency.
