  1. Re: Reference For DC As a relative newcomer to anime Noir is an awesome series. Watched the first disk as a rental and have the collection on order.
  2. Re: Two Game Master's YUP, I definitly agree with that one. But you should also make sure you get play time as a PC. That is why I love the supers genre. I allways had major villians that returned in addition to the weekly canon fodder. "Gasp! But it can't be. He DIED!"
  3. Re: Two Game Master's One of the best games I was ever a part of had two of us "Co-GMing". But we didn't actually run at the same time. We both ran in the same campaign city and used the same city info and maps. There were 5 player besides us. We separated "control" of certain aspects between the two of us and each ran a different "Viper Nests" which were in competition with each other. Though the 5 players weren't aware of that at first. Both of us ran independent plot and adventure lines, but we coordinated common info. I think what made it work so well was we each had a PC and would play when the other was running. This allowed us to play and avoid GM burnout as well as being able to filter in "clues" if we had to. I don't think it would work in a conventional genre, but in a supers game not every PC has to be there every session. So a changing attendance isn't really a problem.
  4. Re: Your "2005" Pet Gaming Projects Edsel Thanx, I added G to my netflix queue. I had to put down a few because Vol 1 is listed as "short wait". That pretty much means it's good and popular. I am finding it hard to find anime I like. I enjoyed "Full Metal Panic" even with the "humor", but the humor in Mezzo: DSA I could have done without. Oh well, I'm sure with time I will get a feel for the genre. Right now I have started working up a campaign that will have the PCs using armor suits akin to the ones in Bubblegum Crisis that can insert/control larger mecha. It is based on the secret from the world organization opposing the alien/supernatural invader type genre. Right now the concept is that the technology only works when you have a certain rare genetic marker, ie the PCs. Its been a while since I worked with power armor in hero so I am having to do my research on the best way to handle it. Especially having the armor loose bits and pieces of capability as it takes damage.

    Experts?

Re: Experts? I don't think I would allow it in general play either. I seems to just sidestep paying for skills. Pay ten points and get everything. I might allow it for a "matrix" type skill download or a cyber-implant (skillwire) type thing, but I would require changes between scenario's unless there was a really really good explanation.
  6. Re: Your "2005" Pet Gaming Projects I am suffering from the same thing as Herolover. I retired out of the Navy in mid '04 and have finally settled into a good job I enjoy that leaves me plenty of "off" time. But I can't seem to nail myself down to one project long enough to do something. When I was in it was never a problem to focus. Now it seems to be the norm. Edsel, I just "discovered" anime a couple of months ago and am still figuring out what I like. The "Gantz" site was pretty limited. I couldn't get the trailers to download (went to a different site and had no problems). So I still have no idea what Gantz is about, other than several magazines say it's fantastic. I was thinking they probably (anime makers) are heading down the same road that is causing general book sales to decline. I mean the popular authors are doing fine, but if you are looking for a new fiction writer it is all a crap shoot. Subject catalogs are dead so if you want to find period fiction, either you already know the title/author or you cannot find it. and all the book flaps have "Shmuckatelly loved it!" Rather than a basic synopsis. But that is neither here nor there. What is Gantz actually about?
  7. Re: Mageworlds series There are more than just the first three. The Price of the Stars Starpilot's Grave By Honor Betray'd Then you have: The Gathering Flame The Long Hunt The Stars Asunder A Working of Stars But to answer your question. Yes, and it would make a fantastic game. The problem is, that in order to really get the feel of the gameworld the players would have to actually "read" a book. No movies to just watch on this one. And unfortunately reading seems to be a dying art, at least where I am......
  8. Re: Getting rid of the {tech} I think the whole idea is brilliant. I have been running through endless possibilities. Great tool
  9. Re: Welcome To The New PULP HERO Forum! Hey! I just realized Pulp has its own forum.
  10. Re: Star Wars "Science" Nope, not everybody. I think I hurt something........
  11. Re: Online Starbase Maps? On the profantasy site. http://www.profantasy.com/library/dpv.asp By the way I found the file. It is the Station 419 Upsilon Deck Plan by K. Thomas. The complete zip file is about 1.67MB. It is mostly a StarTrek outpost but is is huge with hotlinked deckplans. There are 33 decks.
  12. Re: Online Starbase Maps? I have to find it, but I found a starbase done up in Campaign Cartegrapher, they have a free downloadable viewer/printer, of a starbase that makes DS9 look small. Let me dig it up and see how big the file is.
  13. Re: Online Starbase Maps? When do you need it by?
  14. Re: Early Firearms When I run games with early firearms I have loading and firing as separate skills. Loading skill affects speed of the reload and whether is is properly loaded. Firing is whether you hit or not. It adds a lot of "color" to the game. I had one game where the PC's held off the "savages" by having the "crack shot" do all the shooting and the others were "loading like He**". Just a thought.
  15. Re: Women! Women! Where? where? Pictures?
  16. Re: Tentative 2006 Schedule I agree with you about SH. I would really like to see more. But I can wait. Right now the only books I don't have are: The Ultimate Brick Reality Storm: When Worlds Collide Galactic Champions Ninja Hero Hero System Vehicle Sourcebook Most of my buys were right when Steve said things were slow and ask for a bit of extra support. My game budget has to catch its breath before I can buy anything else. I had to place my miniatures habit on hold for a while
  17. Re: Tentative 2006 Schedule Well the line up will change between now and then. If 2005 has a good upswing in the RPG market, there might be enough of a profit margin to allow some of the less lucrative lines to get some more support. At least I hope so. But I still remember the great darkness, grasshopper , when Hero nearly passed from the universe. And so I give thanks.
  18. Re: Tentative 2006 Schedule Nope. Paying off a car does not mean it will break down. Two days after my check cleared paying the last $4000 on my car, I blew a tire on the interstate while traveling through OK on the way back to Washington State. Rolled four times and totaled the car. Walked away from it though..... airbags The moral of the story. Never pay it off. If you do, you just get some really nasty bruising and a new (higher) car payment. or Avoid interstates at all costs for the first complete month after the check clears....
  19. Re: Horror Hero I have the old HH and second devlin1 in saying it's definitely worth it if you are into horror RPing. While a Horror sourcebook isn't required, it would be a handy asset to have. I do think that another road might be a bit more plausable. Instead of a standalone Horror supplement, I would make it a meaty slice of the upcoming Pulp-Hero. To me both "pulp" and "horror" are not stuck in the mold of their original concepts. They are a "feel" and are not that far apart.
  20. Re: PREDATORS -- What Do *You* Want To See? It is isn't it. I'll bow out too...
  21. Re: PREDATORS -- What Do *You* Want To See?
  22. Re: PREDATORS -- What Do *You* Want To See? Actually I was agreeing with you and refuting BobGreenwade's assertion (at least my interpretation of his assertion) that "Lovecraft, Whamphyri, and The Astrologer really fit more into Horror Hero than DC under Fred/5ER". HH is a very narrow focus. DC has a much broader focus and easily encompases spy-thriller/crime settings as well as almost all of the Horror settings. I don't think we will see a HH book along the lines of DC. But we may see a smaller one that is more like akin to a city setting or source book like Demon or Viper, but adding depth to DC with an emphasis on Horror.
  23. Re: PREDATORS -- What Do *You* Want To See?
  24. Re: PREDATORS -- What Do *You* Want To See? Many criminal elements act in teams or pairs and I'd like to see write ups that reflect the idea. Instead of a single mobster. Several from the same mob and a few notes on how they work. In movies you had the small mob boss, two "soldiers" and his wheelman who get sent to "lean" on someone. I'd like to see a write up for them as a team/group. A team of "cleaners". And so on.
  25. Re: DEX is used too much I haven't had much time for the boards lately and haven't read this thread all the way through. In all of my Heroic games where we had a problem with characteristics like the one you are pointing out with Dex, our solution was to cap (or limit) the raw characteristic to what we thought would be appropriate and then purchase the additional characteristic points as a limited skill. There was a write up done by Killershrike? (I think) for Fantasy Hero that is really really good and I think would give you many good ideas. I guess I should hunt down the site again, my links didn't survive the last time my computer crashed.
