  1. Re: Favorite Superhero Lines One of the coolest lines I've heard in a long time came from a brand new JL Unlimited Episode. So be warned spoilers are below To set it up: Captain Marvel's just joined the JL and gets corraled by the press. He starts talking up the League and how it does good, that even supervillians like Lex Luthor can be reformed and its swell that Luthor's running for President. Supes of course is a little steamed and drags Marvel before the big 7 and dresses him down. A little later Supes is watching Luthor make an announcment that's he's built a city of second chances for those who need it, for the poor etc. Later Supes gets called in to the site of a robbery where a good chunk of weaponized kryptonite has been stolen. Cut to Luthor's city a few supicious sounding comments later and Supes is convinced of the worst. Captain Marvel steps in as the voice of reason. Luthor pipes up that its an experimental fusion reactor, which Superman disbelieves. Supes throws Marvel off and the gloves drop on a massive brick brawl in an empty city. Marvel in the end loses. Afterwards its confirmed that Lex was telling the truth, that it really was a fusion generator. Que the press and Luthor is coming off as a good guy. Captain Marvel's calls a meeting with the original seven of the Justice League, and talks about how he looked up to them and idolized Superman then he drops this. "I believe in fairplay. I believe in taking people at their word and giving them the benefit of the doubt. Back home I've come up against my share of fairly nasty bad guys but I never had to act like them to win a fight. I always found another way. I like being a hero, a symbol. Thats why I'm quiting the Justice League. You're no longer heroes." Marvel then just walks off in silience head held high.
  2. Re: PBEM Casting Call: Knights of Malta Not quite considering the characters are required to purchase the rank Knight of Obedience (Order of Malta). It refers directly to the rank of the PC's 8). Look forward to seeing it. As for stats, I'd like full character background from which I'll choose the players. Cheers, David

  5. Rome The massive crowds that had flooded Rome for the funeral of Pope John Paul II and the election and installation of Pope Benedict XVI were finally gone. No super villains had appeared to take advantage of the situation, no doubt due in no small part to the gathering of over thirty eight members of the Knights of Malta. Apart from the Roman team, the other thirty knights had come from Lances based in other nations, including all 5 members of Poland’s Lance. All capable heroes, if more known for saving lives than stomping on super villains, it had proven a unique experience. In the dining hall of the Torre di Angelo, Fra Bertie, Grandmaster of the Order and former hero Chevalier strode up to the microphone. Quiet spread through the room in an instant, he was after all their commander. “Brothers and Sisters, tonight marks a special occasion. Apart from the being largest gathering of the Knights, tonight also brings much good news.†“To start preparations have been completed in Hungary for a new Lance, whose command I am most pleased to assign to Fra’ Jeremiah.†A wave of applause swept through the crowd as Jeremiah blushed slightly and grinned as well wishes came in. “As well Fra’ Seraph is being assigned to the Orders UN mission. He will be the liaison with the Security Council, Checkmate and the Global Guardians. A task for which we can all be sure he will handle extremely well.†“Among other promotions, retirements and standing orders which I shall get too shortly, I wish to recognize Fra’ Cursa and Fra’ Migraine for their excellent work here in Rome. Your efforts in protecting Rome and the Vatican have been truly noble and I wish you both the best on your new assignments.†“This of course means Rome needs to be brought back up to strength, with four new members. I will be announcing the new team members after tonight’s dinner.†Knights of Malta Character & Co GM Call The Knights of Malta are recruiting four new players and a Co GM. Character submissions will be accepted until May 6th, Midnight MST. Please send the background only in Word Format to: davidalex.hart@gmail.com For background please refer to the following websites http://www.globalguardians.com both on the Malta Campaign page and the Encyclopaedia references http://www.orderofmalta.org The most important thing to consider when constructing a character for this campaign is this: the heroes on this team are not only devout Catholics both lay and religious, but are considered to be role models and standards bearers of Catholic morality as the official team of the Church. Faithful from around the world follow their exploits and other Catholic super heroes are measured against them. The intent of this campaign to explore the role faith has with comic book super heroes in a city focused campaign with classic comic book sensibilities. While some globe-spanning adventures may take place, the action will be centred on Rome. Classic comic book characters who met the faith requirements will be preferred over edgier or unique concepts.
  6. Re: Everyamoeba skills Given a man sized amoeba is likely to be well liquidy.... So he gets to replace climbing with: Acrobatics 8- Its easy to get up right after being knocked down, you just sort of slurp up Cheers, David
  7. Re: The New Circle Thanks Kristopher, the MA really isn't the primary focus, its just to represent that if someone gets in close to HTH combat, she can defend herself decently by aborting to Block of course, followed by a kick in the unmentionables if its a guy. As per the UMA for the kung fu style, she's going to know block, kick, and punch manouveres, with the ever handy acrobatics, breakfall, and just because: KS: Chinese Healing. She's not really meant as a stand up fighter (thus the notable lack of defences), but somebody who's a touch more in the background. That and she has a real thug of an ancestor to deal directly with others.... As for the whole Tarot angle, just replace it with simuliar super villianous agency you use in your games. She's been wronged, and just like The Bride, she's willing to kill all her enemies to get bloody satisfaction. David
  8. Re: The New Circle Here's the companion NPC, Black Rose. She came out a lot closer to my original build ~ I guess I didn't turn her into a baroque monster of a character sheet. David
  9. Re: The New Circle Heres an NPC I came up with for Worldsmaker Global Guardians http://www.globalguardians.com. I came up with the background and a character sheet, then Jack and the NPC guys promptly took that mess of an attempt and rebuilt him much more elegantly for I have to thank him greatly. Black Lion is intended as a slightly sympathic, honourable villian who's out pursuing his own goals. That and being a fun foil against any swordsman/knights out there as he's willing to challenge them to single combat. Heck I'd run him straight up in a fantasy hero game as a uber villian the charaters have to defeat in some climatic battle. For higher level verisions I'd add a magic multipower filled with some classic death knight/anti paladin type powers like plagues, death touches etc as his main new power boost. That and buff him out in terms of stats, skills, and DCs. This brings me to the mystic villian of the night, Black Lion Cheers, David PS: How exactly do I imbed a webpage into a post like you've been doing Killer Shrike.
  10. Re: GGU NPCs For Review Wow, you and the auditors did a kick ass job cleaning up Black Lion. I have a few suggestions 1) A few more inches of running would be useful say to 10" total 2) Perhaps a few more skill levels with Hand to Hand combat ~ he is after all supposed to be a skilled & powerful hand to hand fighter 3) Shouldn't he also have: Social Limitiation: Subject to Orders (The Devil). He's a knight in a classic feudal sense to the Devil after all. Cheers, David
  11. Re: The Non-Wandering Adventurer Actually this doesn't sound like a homebody campaign, your out in the wildlands trying to break and tame them from all sorts of threats lurking out there. Of course it can descend into a Kill everything that moves, burn the forests, bring down the mountains and then just fireball the crap out of it all over again to make sure ... which is why you then go over it with cloudkills and other big attacks campaign but hey thats all good too. Sometimes turning dark dank forests into a nicely leveled plain of glass is a way to blow off steam. A way to view it is this: The players operate out of fortress right at the edge of the wildlands, its got a few priests and a large enough garrison to withstand a solid attack. The players are there to literally go out into the wilderness, map it, beat the crap out of any threat nearby etc. etc. Give the players a map with the fort at one edge, a few details nearby and tell them they get to fill it out as they go. One of the fun things I did in a campaign like this is that the players can in effect become "Lords of the Manor" developing settlements and fortresses etc. as settlers slowly start coming in upon hearing the news that the heroes are knocking off the threats that kept people away from the area before. That and building a distillery... dwarves and 180 proof liquor 8) Of course as the players go and become more powerful you can start unleashing bigger threats on them.... That orc clan the players wiped out last week .... welllll it seems the orcs were the only things stopping that Orge Mage from expanding his territory and his verison of thanks is a nice ambush. Cheers, David
  12. Re: Why super tech never goes mainstream True materials like graphite and polymers had a shortened span from exotic high end material used for expensive one offs to mass production in current products. It doesn't however discount the long development span of ground breaking technologies, graphite and polymers after all are merely subsets of synthetic and exotic materials that have been developed over the past century. We've already done this with aluminum, nylon etc. For example: If a PC/NPC developed Ultratough a ubertough fabric that was highly resistant yet breathable and soft and silkly it would likely experience a rapid transition to the marketplace. Its merely stretching the bounds of todays technology, not cutting new ground. Sure the player would earn mega $$$ buts the concept isn't new, its simply upping the potential of todays stuff. Would blasters take that long to diseminate into mass production for militarys around the world, not really as they're already working on High Energy weapons for battlefield applications. Of course the real trick is minaturizing the blasters into infantry weapons. I have no problem with tanks, and other vehichles armed with big kick ass energy cannons. The real problem with blasters is downsizing the powersupply. However given that people have been serious work for years on creating really powerful small batteries, with the advantage of supertech I can see it being solved quickly. Powerarmour being manufactured prettly quickly, of course DARPA is already working on the basis for it with Future Solider. Supertech simply speeds it up. Faster Than Light, Gravity control, and teleportation technologies are something I don't see having a quick turnaround. They really are "Super Tech" items that we can talk about in Science Fiction, but barely can begin to talk about even in the most current cutting edge science. If supers suddenly appeared tommorow can I see some radical advances in the level of Earthly technology in five years, sure. Blasters, Power Armour, and flying cars all over the place. Basically our current items would recieve some kick ass upgrades. Would we see the sudden creation of mass produce FTL drives, gravity control devices, and teleportation circles I seriously doubt it. Cheers, David
  13. Re: Why super tech never goes mainstream Apart from comic books where time is an arbritary concept anyway... {One sentance summary of post} The time drag from experimental one offs to mass production takes too long to be noticed in game. {Back to full post} Supertech does go mainstream, it just takes too long to be played out in games for any really noticable effect. Supertech is usually represented as extremely cutting edge stuff built as perfected one offs, and not as a ready to mass produce item. If its easy to manufacture Ironman suits why wouldn't Stark industries be rolling them the production line as fast as possible into the sweaty little hands of which every branch of the US military they had a contract with, and every nation or movement that could afford it. That in fifty if not thirty years down the road Stark industries will be doing just that doesn't crop up in comics or in most games. A good example of this time drag in effect can be found by looking at computers. Computers were big, complicated, expensive pieces of equipment back in the 50s that preformed unsual and at times unbeviable tasks. It took until the 80's for computing technology to be minaturized and understood enough to start the commercial production of them in large quanties, and until the 90's for computers to really start becoming commonplace. What was cutting edge back in the 50's & 60's (reference Batmans crime computer ~ which was a solid database of villians and targets around Gotham) to something thats commonplace today and can held in the palm of ones hand. Another example is steam, Inventors were mucking around with steam powered locomatives at the start of 19th century, but it took decades before trains became a common mode of transportation. Heck look at airplanes, it took two major wars to really get aviation off the ground and into something more than a toy for the ultrarich or adventuers into something relatively commonplace. So fifty years down the road for the starting story people would be hopping in and out of teleport booths to travel the globe, or just down to their local gaming store... Cheers, David
  14. Re: A Difficult Power Personally, I'd build this a vehichle type construct..... Essentially the Character is riding around in mecha that slowly breaks down and gets replaced after each adventure. Sure it may be a new corpse but who said that vehichles couldn't be made out of the dead. I'd then steal a page from cyberpunk and make the spirit buy a 'jack to run the vehicle that transfers stun and body damage. So when your dead character gets blasted by with a nasty RKA from the decidely scared supervillian the body and stun damage after defences roll over and hurt the spirit like she's an occupent of a vehichle. The different bodies is simply the SFX of what happens to destroyed vehichles and how she gets the new one which is oddly enough almost entirely the same. Cheers, David
  15. Re: Alternate CU Future Histories Well after a mysterious ninja with an Aussie accent saves the day.... China goes into an uberhard line mode..... we get to play Golden Age Champs again with another world wide war in the late 2030's to 50's! Excessively silver age characters show up as humanity starts exploring the stars... Viper and like mega villans finally manages to conquer fair bits of Africa and South America in the 70's and 80's leading to harder confrontations Alien invaders in the 2090's lead off to much more violent 'heroes' fighting to destroy humanities foes in the gorest manner possible An apperantly ageless and still mysterous ninja with a 20th century Aussie accent appears again smacking down the so called heroes and leading all back to the proper path. As a side note Foxbat reappears in 2110, it seems he was a little distracted while cleaning that mysterious lamp.....
  16. Re: New Campaign could use some feedback Hey thats cool. As for the whole hierachy/alliance of races it can be a less slave/dominating verision of the Uplift system. I just grabbed the idea of 6 major races from the mention of the 6 command carriers eg the 6 big boys have sector commands and a major carrier stationed on their home worlds ~ Earths just happens to be the military headquarters. For some funky ship plans for any of the alien species check out http://www.spelljammer.org/ships/index.html Some of the deck plans could provide with a little modification funky ships for the aliens..... or Strategic Command who says the ships have to be metalitic in nature As a suggestion for some species, if you have access to it Alternity has some great species that would be relatively easy to convert if they haven't been already. Or just steal your favorite SF species eg "You can be the Narn from B5, Vulcans from Star Trek, Wookies from Star Wars etc" That or from real SF fun, play the Little Green Men, pranksters who've been doing odd things to cows and hicks since 1951! (Hey maybe Mightybec is a little green man in disguise!) Cheers, David
  17. Re: New Campaign could use some feedback The obvious question is who are the major species in the Galactic Council and Strategic Command. Followed up by why would they agree to form such a Council. I'd suggest 6 important species with the rest being aliens who were bootstrapped several technology levels upon being contacted by the Council. Each of the big boys has client species under their thumb/being guided to enlightenment that support their policies in the Council and can be leaned on for votes/support etc. Also who's the major bad guy alien species. Who are the players going to be sent out against? Cheers, David
  18. Re: NPC Help:The Order of the Cross Hi Nexus, Here's a link to a campaign I'm running the GGU http://www.globalguardians.com/campaigns/knightsofmalta.php My first thoughts for a teen taskforce would be 1) Go international: The Catholic Church spans the globe with faithful all across it. Who says the strikeforce has to be composed of Westerners any way. 2) Don't make them uber secret, make them hidden in plain sight with a nice bland sounding name..... and scant information aviable on what they do. 3) Keep in mind the Catholic Church has a ton of organizations inside it, pick one you like or fufills part of the functions you want. They range from fairly non political monastic orders, service focused organizations to highly intellectual and severe. 4) Best recruiting/origin tool: World Youth Day ~ last one was Toronto Canada 2002, Rome 2000. Massive gathering of young Catholic faithful = good recruiting ground or shared origin from youth around the world. 5) Religion is often in the mind of the character, the religious inspiration doesn't have to be blatant, it could just be a struggle of faith to use their destructive powers for good. Cheers, David
  19. Re: Teen Heroes & Static Shock Heck by a simple logic makes it clear Static Shock is in the DC Animated Continuity. Two facts makes this clear 1) Static Shock meets his future self (Future Shock) who is clearly in the Batman Beyond continuity (given that he teams up with Batman Beyond, and Mr. Wayne recognizes and barks out orders to both of them, what a control freak 8) 2) The JLU travels to the future meeting Batman Beyond in its own episode (2nd part of season finale) where the future Static appears. The lynch pin of course is that Batman Beyond is shown to be in continuity with both Static Shock and JL:U in each series respective episodes. The Teen Titans are clearly in a seperate continuity, as it hasn't been revealed which Robin is under the mask its difficult to determine how it fits into the continuity
  20. Re: The Incredibles Seen, loved it, and seeing it again tommorrow. As for the character sheets, it seemed to me Mr. Incredible had a pile of extra strength for lifting only. That and obviously Mr. Bird understood the usefulness of penetrating when dealing with Bricks. Oh for the record I'm 24 Cheers, David
  21. Re: Help me Canadian Champions fans? Easy plot seeds off the top of my head 1) Its going to blow!: It seems years of cutbacks or a villian have caused one of Ontario Hydros nuclear plants in Darlington to start going critical. Choose between a preventable meltdown or a villians evil plot. 2) Eco terrorists have struck!: Take your favorite villian with an environmental axe to grind and pick any number of targets from hydro dams in Quebec and Labrador, diamond mines up north, the oil sands in Alberta, etc etc. 3) Breaking the bank: Some villians plan to break into the Canadian Mint to steal lots and lots and lots of money. Located conviently enough in Winnepeg. In short classic plots seeds matched up with appropriate Canadian locations. Cheers, David
  22. Re: Cape Haven (so far) Hi Hermit, neat looking city. Several design thoughts here, even though Cape Haven is an accidental city, once people started moving in some basic urban design would be implimented by the council. Given the 50's/60's feel of it I have a few suggestions. 1) Waterfront on the Cape is all parks and highrises, condos, apartments etc. Any developer worth his salt wouldn't be building warehouses on land perfect for ocean front views. Any urban planner worth his pay cheque would be looking at the weather patterns and insistining on some nice high perms to prevent flooding damage. 2) Docks should be to on either side of Cape Haven with railyards and warehouses behind it. 3) The main highway should be identified and the Interstate located with appropriate ring road for ease of travel Cheers, David
  23. Re: What's the best way to conquer Canada? Theres no quick way to conquer Canada, or at least conquer all of it. But heck if I was thinking of a way to takeover Canada the good old mentalist mastermind would have the easiest time. Essentially its the classic control the head, and you control the body game. Just in this case the targets would be the top bureaucrats and elected officals. To conquer by main force, heck the point would be to sieze part of Canada, the best pick being Alberta since you can leverage the oil and gas assessts and slowly roll over the rest of the country. Besides who would want to conquer Canada, now a sun drenched Carribean Island on the other hand..... Cheers, David
  24. Okay I just wanted to get the intial reactions on cheesy this naked advantage is. Base Power is: 60 Telekinesis (40 Strength) Naked Advantage: 30 Variable Advantage (+1; Up to +1/2 Worth of Advantages); Requires a Skill Roll (Power Skill TK based on Int) -1/2, Requires Concentration Throughout (-1/2; 1/2 DCV) Cheers, David
