  1. Re: B-movie inspiration You know, I've always considered Big Trouble in Little China the perfect supplement to Highlander.
  2. Re: The cranky thread Time to get a new job. The managers have taken out all the enthusiasm of coming to work.
  3. Re: A Thread for Random Musings If you change the order of certain words in a thread, you can change the meaning of the thread? For example: The actual thread: How many dragon's teeth adorn YOUR shield? Reworded: How many shields adorn YOUR dragon's teeth? The actual thread: Cool guns for your game Reworded: Cool games for your gun
  4. Re: B-movie inspiration I was just looking at the IMDB link of Sword of the Valiant. I'm not sure if I want to include the Arthurian legends as part of the campaign's history, but it's always a valid option. I cross-posted this idea on the Dragonsfoot forums. People suggested Circle of Iron and Blood of Heroes. I don't think those would fit a "historical" campaign, but they, along with the Conan and Beastmaster films would be great in a post-apocalyptic or "Age of Barbarians" campaign. I'm undecided about including Ator films because of his crazy invention skills, along with this disturbing dialogue: It turns out Ator was adopted and is not Sunya's blood brother after all. Still, they grew up together as siblings.
  5. Re: B-movie inspiration Smaug will make his grand entrance wearing a top hat and cane, tap dancing and singing "Stepping Out With My Baby." What?
  6. Re: B-movie inspiration I'm mostly working on a campaign world, so most of the work would be keeping the timeline consistent. I may include a few characters, if I remember more of the details. If I can catch Dragon Storm and Dragon Dynasty, I'd be able to write up the main characters. Offhand, Dragon Dynasty is set in the area between China and a kingdom in Italy(?). Someone in IMDB wondered if the hero, Marco, was actually Marco Polo, but it looks like it's an earlier period than Marco Polo's lifetime. It was definitely set after the fall of the Roman Empire. Marco and his brother are warriors and are accompanied by a young martial artistThe villain is a warrior/wizard, also trained in martial arts. Dragon Storm is a bit harder to place. I guess it's set in Anglo-Saxon England because IIRC, one king (played by John Rhys-Davies) ruled Bernicia. My memory is sketchy, however. The main hero would be a ranger. Trivia: This movie was directed by Stephen Furst (Vir Cotto of Babylon 5). Dragonslayer and Hawk the Slayer were most likely set in England. Dragonslayer appears to be set in Anglo-Saxon England as well, while Hawk the Slayer could have been set after the Norman Conquest. It was a period of turmoil, so there may have been a civil war going on, either the war between Stephen and Maud, or as late as the War of the Roses. Since Gort wore plate armor, the latter would be more likely.
  7. Re: B-movie inspiration Well, maybe better than a B-movie, but still something I considered using.
  8. Re: Rail gun damage? Cool! Here's a video of a test firing, which I cross-posted in the random videos thread.
  9. I'm sorely tempted to create a fantasy campaign based on several B-grade movies. Why? Because while these movies may not have been great, they can still provide good ideas for a campaign. The setting would be a fantasy version of the earth. I chose these movies because they can be used together without too many continuity problems. I'm including the IMDB links to those films. You already know about Hawk the Slayer and Dragonslayer, so I'll skip the synopses of these films. These films allow for dragons, dwarves, elves, giants, and wizards. Here are a couple of lesser-known films shown on the Sci Fi Channel. I'll include the plot summaries, since the IMDB links don't give much detail. Dragon Dynasty: European merchants visit China and are pursued on their way home by a sorcerer who controls a pair of dragons. Swordplay and kung fu fighting abound. A tribe of unwashed barbarians can substitute for orcs. Dragon Storm: Rival kings team up to fight alien dragons. The dragons came from the stars, hatched from meteors (okay, it's not logical, but this is fantasy after all). The rival kings are more like NPCs. The real heroes include a woodsman/archer, a spoiled princess, and a merchant from the east who is a skilled martial artist. I thought about including Dragonheart, but the dragon's depiction conflicts with that of the other movies. Still, talking dragons aren't unheard of, so I may include it. Likewise, the elves depicted in Legend are different from the standard rpg elf, so I dropped that too. Again, I may use a few elements, like the unicorns, the goblins, and the demon. Suggestions and comments are always welcome.
  10. Re: "Neat" Pictures So much for my hagfish on a stick idea!
  11. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Test firing a railgun
  12. Re: Seeking Deckplan Sources (Semi Traveller Hero Related) Perfect! Thank you.
  13. Re: Genres HERO GAMES may want to avoid (intended to be humorous) Wonder Twins HERO
  14. Re: Seeking Deckplan Sources (Semi Traveller Hero Related) I could use some deckplans as well, although I'm looking for hard scifi ships.
  15. Re: Musings on Random Musings I recognize a lot of names on the cast. I didn't know Don Messick did the voice of Chu chu, but I'm not surprised.
  16. Re: Genres HERO GAMES may want to avoid (intended to be humorous) The Ultimate Hentai Written by the author of Time Cube. Illustrated by Rob Liefeld, of course.
  17. Re: Musings on Random Musings What is it?
  18. Re: The cranky thread I'm tired of certain people at work dropping the ball. I have to clean up after them, and I never get the credit.
  19. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Last night, I had a flashback of sorts. I was dozing off while watching TV. Something made me think of a house I lived in as a kid. For a moment, I could swear I was looking outside the gate. I vaguely remember my aunt also being there. Okay, it was just a dream. But I woke up early in the morning with a song I hadn't remembered for 30 years playing in my head. Remember the cartoon The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan? It was one of the songs they sang there. In case you're curious about song I suddenly remembered, I just did some digging and found this site. It's the second track. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but what a weird way to wake up!
  20. Re: Deep Medieval RPGing That Darklands game makes me want to resurrect my low (nonmagical) fantasy, albeit making it purely historical. I even thought of a TV series based on the Middle Ages, although I doubt it will be too popular with the mainstream audience.
  21. Re: Your "2008" Pet Gaming Projects If I get a few players, I may start a couple of D&D/AD&D campaigns. One would be a Forgotten Realms campaign using the 2nd Edition rules. The other would be set in Middle-earth using the Moldvay (red book) Basic and Cook/Marsh (blue book) Expert Sets.
  22. Re: PA hero interest: Life Without People I know this has been posted here before, but here's a link to a site about ghost towns across the USA. Lots of photos are available. Edit: Another link describing the history of some of the ghost towns.
  23. Re: Describing Potions Great examples, Outsider. Thanks for sharing.
  24. Re: Describing Potions Thanks, Curufea. I still like the thought of having healing potions taste like cough medicine, though.
  25. Re: Describing Potions Unfortunately, I don't have that edition anymore. Maybe I can create my own tables.
