  1. Re: Limitation comments... I don't see a problem with the limitation as written but keep in mind that you can't more than double the damage of a weapon through STR. For example of you have a sword that does 1d6 killing with a STR MIN of 5 and someone with a 25 STR swings it it can still only do 2d6 killing. In other words no weapon will ever be able to do more than double its base DC.
  2. Re: temporarily negating limitations Another way of doing it might be to devise a way the character can temporarily remove the limitation, decide how often it will/might occur in game and then simply decrease the value of the limitation accordingly. I think this method would work best for a "removal" that you think will happen fairly often in the game.
  3. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Which series was that book in?
  4. Re: Jokes NEVER CHEAT ON A HILLBILLY WOMAN!!!!! A hillbilly's wife came home just in time to find her husband in bed with another woman. With superhuman strength, borne of fury, and cutting firewood, she dragged him down the stairs, out the back door, and into the tool shed out back of the barn. She put his tally-whacker in a vice and then secured it tightly and removed the handle. Next she picked up an old carpenter's saw. The banged up husband was terrified, and hollered, 'Stop! Stop! You're not gonna cut it off with that damn rusty saw are you?' The wife, with a gleam of revenge in her eye, put the saw in her husband's hand and said, 'Nope. I'm gonna set this old shed on fire, and go to town for a cold beer.'
  5. Re: Most Oscure Reference You've Ever Worked Into a Game You have been repped.
  6. Re: Most Oscure Reference You've Ever Worked Into a Game Is The Ninth Gate your answer?
  7. Re: Most Oscure Reference You've Ever Worked Into a Game Sorry, not correct. Are you sure you’re not a Scarab maintenance technician?
  8. Re: Most Oscure Reference You've Ever Worked Into a Game It wasn't me but a GM I was playing under in an Angel game put a copy of The Nine Gates of the Kingdom of Shadows in my character's Occult Library. Rep for the first person who can tell me, WITHOUT USING THE WEB, what movie that book was in.
  9. Re: Palladium's Nightbane for HERO's I'm familiar with Nightbane and the Palladium system in general but, alas, I fear I will not be able to help you as I feel that proper Nightbane can not be built in the HERO system without using Multiform. May I ask why you are so opposed to using it since it's tailor made for just such situations?
  10. Re: Only to affect secondary characteristics? Because stronger, healthier guys are more resistant to damage than weaker, less healthy guys are. Looking at it like that than it makes perfect sense why it costs more for the less physicaly capable guy to be as resistant to damage as the more physicaly capable guy. In other words if you punch me (10 STR, 10 CON) in the stomach I'm going to take more damage (STUN or whatever) than if you punched a professional boxer (18 STR, 18 CON) in the stomach. Does that example help?
  11. Re: Only to affect secondary characteristics? I've bolded the parts of your origional post that my answer applies to. The problem here is not the system. The problem is that the character concept is “physically frail” BUT you are turning right around and saying that his physical stats need to be higher in order for him to survive in the campaign. What that means is not that you have an unworkable system but an unworkable character concept. The correct solution, since he is noted as being “mentally strong” is to allow him to buy powers to compensate for his physical weakness. A good force field bought to 0 END can make up for deficiencies in PD/ED/Stun/END without having to try and “fix” the system. Just my two cents.
  12. Re: How Fast Do Rogue Planets Move? Unless there is some reason you have to have hard numbers I'd just say that is moves at the speed of plot and leave it there. Other than that I'm afraid I have no good answers for you.
  13. Re: Invisibility Questions I bolded the part of your question this reply pertains to. The answer is: it doesn’t matter. You bought your invisibility “Only When Not Attacking” so you can’t use the wrist blades and still stay invisible. Edit: Hmmm.... You couldn't attack with the wrist blades and stay invisible but if you bought them with IPE and used them to cut a rope with or something like that....Hmmm......
  14. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... "The Fall of Reach" The first HALO novel. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It's not the best book I've ever read but for a based-on-a-video-game book it was above average. It covers the events leading up to the first video game and I will say is that the author made many fewer mistakes than most people who write about the military.

  16. Re: Would you allow? My concern is that it might be emblematic of how he intends to run his games. Hopefully not though.
  17. Sci-Fi setting, the weapon is a powered knife. The build so far is: 2 ½ d6 HKA (Armor Piercing, Penetrating, STR MIN, OAF, STR does not add to damage, Real Weapon, END Reserve, Only recoveres END in special circumstances (new battery or recharged), Custom limitation “Loses 1 ½ d6 HKA, Penetrating and Armor Piercing if END reserve depleted, also loses “STR does not add to damage” limitation if END reserve depleted" The bolded part is the first part I am having trouble with. What would the value of the limitation be? The Italics part is the second part I am having trouble with. The "powered" part adds in the extra damage, the armor piercing, the penetrating and prevents STR from adding to damage. However, even when the battery is depleted it still acts as a regular knife and so STR can add to damage. Thoughts? Suggestions?
  18. Re: HERO: Combat Evolved [Equipment Posts & Comments] OUt of curiosity what genre game is this in?
  19. Re: HERO: Combat Evolved [Equipment Posts & Comments] Hunters are an easy build. I question the wisdom of allowing your character to be able to summon them but the actual build is simple. I'm at work at the moment but if you'd like I could post something up over the weekend.
  20. Re: FTL vs. Lots of Megascale Movement Cost and special effect mostly. Also once you pass a certain point with megascale the speed will be greater that the speed of light so it would make senase to switch to FTL. Edit: Or put another way megascale should be used to model anything sublight and FTL should be used for anything over the speed of light.
  21. Re: Help needed! C’mon now. How busy can a mortgage broker possibly be in today’s housing market?
  22. Re: Help needed! I did get your number, however, Saturday I was finishing up shopping for my wife and Sunday we were at my sister-in-laws for dinner. So there. Of course once I do managed to drive myself to the great state of Virginia I could just bring all the books for you to read. Would that make up for my slacking? As for your Eagles, do you know how conflicted I was watching that game???? As a Redskins fan I couldn't root for either team. I was hoping for a 0-0 tie.
