  1. Re: WWYCD: Snakes on the Plane! StarKnight/Sentinel/SpeedDemon: There are mutha******* snakes on the mutha******* plane! Lady Silver *sternly* No swearing! We're heroes and how else can we inspire people unless we - Holy ****! There are mutha******* snakes on the mutha******* plane! StarKnight *breaking the fourth wall* : didn't we just say that?
  2. Re: The thing's I've learned playing a Brick... Tough bricks can take damage for their team mate. A SMART brick figures out a way for the bad guys to take damage for them.
  3. Re: The thing's I've learned playing a Brick... Re-iterating what has been said: "There is no martial artist so fast that he can dodge a swung building."
  4. Re: The things I've learned playing a Speedster... Explosions really, REALLY hurt!
  5. Re: WWYCD: A spooky ghost Lady Silver (mystic): okay, who's casting a terrible illusion here? Students, you have to be BELIEVABLE when you cast an illusion; ghosts do not go woooooooo Or if it's real- "You realize that you can actually speak, right? Tell me about yourself and I'll help you pass on to the next world where you can rest."
  6. Re: WWYCD: Unholy Matrimony... Hmm... a little heavy handed. While I do applaud a villain who has the forethought to actually have strong defenses, it sounds a bit unreasonable to have THAT much. Then again, I guess that's the point. If Lady Silver hears of this, ESPECIALLY if she's archmage, it's time to start grabbing allies fast. Between her old team, the Silver Knights (the world's JLA/Avengers), her current team (a lower powered group around 350 pts each who ware mystically based), and whatever mystics she can muster (like Caliburn and Vadeleur (the two have a special relationship and end of the world stuff could move him to act) they should have enough firepower for a smash and grab of the bride especially if the bulk of the force is a distraction while someone else ports in. If wards are in place to protect from a quick 'port, she would rely on Speed Demon to zip the bride away posthaste to where she could then teleport to a hidden location. As noted, this is not a fight but a smash and grab- even the two teams combined are probably not going to match up against such (over) powerful foes. Instead it's to get the bride away (and get that panic button away) an try to talk some sense to her. Either she doesn't realize that she's under control or she's insane since I don't care HOW much in love you think you are: you're not going to be transformed into a souless demon to get married. Regardless though, the bride would be held very securely= the heroes might not like it but given the alternative, denying something their marriage for a day is okay by them. The municipal court will be open tommorow for a civil and non mystical marriage- if it's love, the couple shouldn't care.
  7. Re: Wwycd #567419845626 Is it too late to recant my earlier post? There really ARE too many WWYC threads on this board!
  8. Re: Not quite a WWYCD: YWUA your PC... My most common WWYCD character is Lady Silver. First up is tell everyone on the team: "I know this sounds wierd, but I'm not Amanda but her creator... and yours too." Probably followed by: "No, I'm not lying- Tyr can prove that." and "Speed Demon- stop staring out my chest!" and "Stop *gasp* strangling me Nova! I'm *cough* sure she's ok!" and "yeah Sentinel, I might be the reason why you're divorced, you rarely see your son, your former best friend hates and wants to kill you, and you're stuck baby sitting the spandex crew. Umm... my bad?" Since she's a wizard, I wouldn't have the knowledge to use her spells but I wonder if I could at least get that flying cloak to work. Cool! After that, it's time to start looking up mystics and since I created them, I should know where they are. Also might have fun trying to imitate her to outsiders only to hear from the team "she does not sound THAT corny! Well, usually." Edit: I'd hope to pop in as Nova since she's the least skill based character and is alot like Starfire: superstrong, tough, flies, and has energy bolts. Probably the easiest to master.
  9. Re: WWYCD: Any last words? I'm just curious--was there any indication of VENOM actually existing in the VIPER base? Because I suspect that it came as a suprise, of sorts. Not known one way or another prior to going in. VENOM has been used in the past but sparingly since it is so dangerous and tough to make. A hero might consider taking extra precautions before entering a VIPER base though based on that history of biological warfare or just be prudent in general when dealing with terrorists.
  10. Re: Time of Crisis Isn't Skarn CU's Darkseid homage? Hmm.. I don't see the connection. Skarn is much more of an active conqueror than DS who is more interested in corrupting others or finding the anti-life equation. Also, Skarn just seems a whole lot nicer.
  11. Re: WWYCD: Any last words? Y'know, here's a question - is the 'search for a cure' a rapid scientific one, or are we talking about, at least for a while 'tear every drawer in this base apart and see if these idiots kept something around in case someone forget to check his suit carefully enough' type search? Whatever works. In the comics, super geniuses can cure diseases that whole teams of scientists must work decades on. I'm not going to dispute that tradition. After some slow responses, I like what I'm seeing. It's all about: wow, this might REALLY be it. What will I do? What has been unsaid and should be said... or taken to the grave? What did I wish I did and yet never did. It's some nice introspection. BTW, as noted it's not really known if the heroes are infected but it's that they could be infected that's driving it. Let's see: Lady Silver: it would be tough to keep her in (teleport, XD travel) but she would stay to protect other people. Her wizardry has little healing ability so outside of contacting some mystics, she's up a creek. She'd spend her time checking in on outside progress, keeping the team's spirits up, and talking to higher ups to prepare if the Silver Knights (the world's JLA) doesn't make it. Starknight: she'll hack through VIPER databases trying to find a cure. As time passes, and if nothing comes up, she'll contact the rest of the Celestial Order (a GL-homage) to inform them of her situation. Not much they could do but the head of their Order is a quasi-mystical source of power who might be able to purge her of the disease... maybe. She'd keep fighting as long as she can since she is really into living life. She'd also get some action as well: she loves sex and would probably drag Titan into a bedroom (they are on again-off again lovers who can't quite seem to committ). Sentinel: he'd coordinate as much as possible any outside taskforce to track down other VIPER cells. He'd also be told by PRIMIUS and the military "We got it" since there's not much he can do inside. He'd call his ex-wife and son, tell them how much he loves them, and apologize for all the crap he put them through. Probably the only time that the Knights will ever see him cry. Also hunt up some beers and toast to old times. Nova: probably have That conversation with Lady Silver about how much she loves her (although it's been pretty obvious for years and they've talked about it before). Unfortunately, Lady Silver doesn't love Nova in that way (although they are best friends) and one of Nova's deepest desires goes unfulfilled. She'd also tell the rest of the team how she loved them and thank them for being her family on this strange planet for as long as she was here. Speed Demon: after trying to blow the whole thing off, he gets really scared and does a ton of soul searching. He confessed that he's been a selfish and not-so great hero who was more interested in the fame and money than helping people. AFter the pity display, is shocked to discover that the rest of the team actually liked having him on the team for his humor, cheerful attitude, and that they saw in him a deeper sense of heroism that he knew he had. Tyr: call his wife and thank her for her love and the care he took of him when he lost his memories of godhood. Although he never truly loved her (she was in him and kinda took advantage of his lost memories), he understands how she felt and is grateful. Otherwise, he'd be very restless. By his nature as the Norse god of justice and war, he wants to fight for justice with his last breath yet must stand by to not endanger others. It would be frustrating to be fell by an enemy he can not fight but would face his death with the same courage he displayed when he lost his hand to the Fernis Wolf. He would wonder though: can justice ever truly die?
  12. Re: Wwycd #567419845626 Let's see, we're going to complain that the WWYCD's waste people's time and take up space by having a WWYCD thread to complain about it- taking up space and people's time? *boggle* They are fun little threads if done right- if you don't like them then don't read them.
  13. Re: Archimago I would be against bringing him back since a ton of mages did everything possible to see that he couldn't come back. That'd be too much of a screw you to the mystic community. Of course, since it's your campaign, you could always say that he was never killed or killed in a less permanent way before bindings could be done.
  14. Not really a moral quandry but more some view into our character's soul. Might be a bit heavy handed though: You and the rest of the team are involved in a VIPER raid and during it, you're hit with a biological weapon. PRIMUS immediately quarantines the area with you and crew until they can find out what the hell you got hit by. Early findings are that it could be VENOM, a deadly virus from the past that rapidly kills within 24 hours, infected supers though to be immune to disease/toxins, and has no cure. No one knows for sure though: it could be something new or something completely harmless. PRIMUS is pulling in everyone and everything to find a cure/determine what you've been hit with. The VIPER communication is pretty free to operate (and any gadgeteer can be certain that it's not bugged). Or, PRIMUS can send in phones through quarentine. You're free to contact loved ones but asked to not contact the media (so as to not start a panic). The team also has free run of the VIPER base (so you can look for a cure, hack the computers for info, etc). There's also a holding cell for the VIPER prisoners. No one is allowed to leave though. NO ONE. Even if you're known to be resistant to disease, are in a battlesuit, or inorganic you're stuck since VENOM is so deadly and contagious. So, in what might be your last 24 hours, you're more or less alone with your teammates who in some ways might be closer to you than anyone but yet what haven't you told them? Any secret crushes? Or a sin to confess? Will you finally have it out with the prankster who won't stop putting sugar in the fusion reactor of your battlesuit? Maybe try to score with that hottie on the team who you heard does this INCREDIBLE thing with her... well you get the idea.
  15. Re: WWYCD - a deal with the devil The only difference in the responses of any of my characters would be the amount of profanity used in the refusal. NEVER made a deal with the devil if said devil's name starts with a capital D.
  16. Re: WWYCD: Flipside Very cool idea. I'd rep if I could but I need to spread it... Let's see: Lady Silver: has CvK, Compassionate, and Sworn to Protect others against Magic. Now she's a casual killer, malicious, and uses magic to subjugate people. SO NOT GOOD! She's start killing other mages to steal their power, make pacts with demons, and try to control the mystical world, followed by the mundane world. Basically, she's basically the world's worst mystical threat except for Takos and maybe Dark Seraph. She's also a little repressed sexually (or at least too busy to... well get busy) so she might start kidnapping pretty little boytoys. Nova: let's see, hates criminals, protects innocents, enrages if innocents are hurt, and prone to depression. A little harder. I guess now she doesn't hate criminals but perhaps actually likes being one now! Anyone who gets in her way, that's tough. Also, since she's so free and powerful she's pretty happy and feels none of the self hatred that plagues her now. Life is a BLAST! Otherwise, maybe now she's kinda pacifistic and is perfectly calm. She doesn't interfere with other events- what happens will be. Sentinel: really polite, always worried about what others think about him, and think it's just shocking that he ever tried to keep the Silver Knights from doing what they felt they should do. He's also show up on his ex-wife's door with flowers and a song on his lips
  17. Re: WWYCD #124 or so:Peace on Earth VEEERY Nice Gamma Girl! REP! And yeah, Savage is a real scum bag. Read the current JSA Classified where hopefully he'll get his come-uppance. Edit: damn... gotta spread rep first.
  18. Re: WWYCD 101:A question of faith I have to admit I find it interesting that so many characters just assume that the sacrificial rite isn't required and take no steps to verifiy that it isn't before acting, considering these people's beleifs ignorant superstition by default because they find it distasteful/immoral/useless. Consider how many of the rituals of major relgions today don't make any logical sense, even if not overtly harmful or only borderline so. Does what a non beleiver thinks of a religous practice give them the right to enforce that belief on willing believers that are only bringing "harm" to other willing belivers? Interesting point but, as noted, superheroes tend to be kinda extreme in the opinions and have the abilities to carry out said opinions. One of the problems of superbeings, if it is one, is that there are few things that can stop them except another superbeing. This leads to them having the idea that they can impose their beliefs on others, even if it's with the best of intentions. This tends to be reinforced by the fact that it's often a handful of superbeings that make the difference in whether the city, country, world, aor universe gets saved... the ego you gain makes it hard to just be normal and respect other opinions when it's so easy in the short term to act.
  19. Re: WWYCD 101:A question of faith Lady Silver: would be horrified at the idea and actively seek to stop the sacrifice. She would first start with research both mundane and mystical to divine just what is going on. Is there a true mystic force that requires a sacrifice? If so, she and the Silver Knights would confront the being. While she'd be willing to give the being a fair hearing, in the end I can't see anything it could say that would justify the sacrifice to her. If there was no apparent force, she would try to convince the people that this is a practice that must be stopped: people are dying for no reason and a horrible crime against life. If needed, she would simply stop the procedure and let the deadline pass. It'd be interesting if something bad DID happen then although she'd take responsibility and act as needed. It would be a nice comment on her character in that while she is very compassionate and willing to listen to others and give them the benefit of the doubt, she can be very stubborn and even a little arrogant. Nova: she'd be at first want to stop the sacrifice but would calm down eventually and talk to the people, especiallly the sacrifice. While she would hate the idea of the sacrifice and would argue against the whole thing, Nova would also respect the culture's beliefs. Being an alien, she has a unique perspective of the huge variety of cultures of Earth and understand how there can be a huge discrepency in what one considers right. She might even be impressed that someone would give so much of themselves to make their society better, something that she thinks most of selfish humanity lacks. In the end, as long as she was convinced that the sacrifice was willing, she would let it happen. But she'd also make it clear that if he changed his mind, that she would be there in a heartbeat to save him. Sentinel: investigate to see what's up but in the end, do nothing to stop it unless there was some malicious outside force. He's there to monitor the Knights and get them back to Earth. Nothing to be gained by interfering with the natives. SpeedDemon: would whisk the victim away. While he's not the most selfless person out there, it's pretty dumb for someone to die for no reason or at least no reason that he can see. Being a cad, if the sacrifice was vute, he might try to deflower her and say "gee, guess you can't go through with the ceremony now!" Starknight: force wall around the victim. A more mature Ameiko might consider to back away and respect this cultural belief (she is responsible for patrolling 1/12 of the Milky Way) but the Celestial Order is a group of knights errant who follow no law save that of the Order and their own conscious and her beliefs is to protect people.
  20. Re: Creating the Silver Age Team Doesn't the team need a Rick Jones/Snapper Carr type as a DNPC? Hmm... you know, that's not a bad idea... Brainstorming time!
  21. Re: Creating the Silver Age Team Go with the CVK. All Silver Age heroes need a CVK. Heck so do most of the villains. The presence of heros who don't have a CVK is one of the Signs that the Silver Age is over. Very good point on the CvK. A question is: how retro to make the whole thing? I think I'll go retro enough for everyone to have a CvK except Solaris (he was a fighter pilot although his experiences in war could lead him to swear off killing). Later on, you can start to look at who would realistically have a CvK or not (like Athena could have one now but as she comes more into Athena's power, and the warrior personality, the prohibition against killing lessens). It'll be interesting going to the Bronze age as stuff gets retconed (or revealed). Maybe Metallia instead of Metallar? Or add something like "the Pursuer"? I like "the Pursuer." Good call.
  22. Re: Creating the Silver Age Team I'm curious what others think about this build. Originally I was going to go with a MP with slots representing his various forms but felt that multiform would allow for greater distinction of his forms and greater flexibilities. You will note that the character is about 20 pts too light in Disadvantages. Would a social limit: exile make sense? Or am I milking his alien nature too much? I can always toss in a CvK which is often standard silver age. Regarding hunteds, Metallar is one of his race who is hunting the Stranger. His main battle forms center around shifting into a variety of metallic shapes. Admittedly, the name is kinda lame but yet, it's better than Metallo! 23. Re: Creating the Silver Age Team Yeah!!! Final member (founding anyway) of the my Silver age team, the Sentinels of Justice! *listens* Hey, I know you're out there... I can hear you breathing. Anyway here is the first draft. Not Shakespeare but it works for now. I do wonder if the character is a little "heavy" in terms of melodrama for a Silver Age team (I guess it depends on whether your flavor is Marvel or DC). I thought that he was a nice tough of pathos for the team ala the Thing, Vision, or Red Tornado. Also, there's just something great about the alien invader who is inspired by humanity's innate goodness for make a great sacrifice (*cough* Silver Surfer *cough*). He's a bit of a cross of Martian Manhunter and Vision, the former more. I'll post history and personality first. As always, advice and suggestions are encouraged! A name for the alien race would be great although I wouldn't mind using the ones from the Aliens Sourcebook 4th edition since they were super strong shape-shifters so it's be a nice link to the past. History: Many lightyears away on a desolate world, several species clashes for survival and eventual dominance. One species was strong, another fast with hyperkeen senses, another soared through the air with razor claws and yet another exhibited remarkable insight and the ability to create rudimentary tools. For thousands of years they and a fifth race clashed until only one remained. Neither strength, speed, flight, nor intelligence prevailed but instead an incredible adaptability that the fifth race possessed: an ability that let them mimic the prowess of their competitors. . As the metamorphs evolved and grew even more intelligent, they developed great societies but still relied on their shape-shifting abilities to survive in their harsh, desert-like world with its many predators. One day, they discovered spaceflight and would spread out as they had on their homeworld: in battle as they carved out a domain from hostile space. Within 500 years, the metamorphs had conquered over a dozen systems and had learned much: besides new shapes to shift to, they also learned about subtlety. Although battle was stimulated, it was only a means to an end: more territory and resources to ensure the survival of their species. Agents who would gain information, sow dissent, and perform acts of sabotage would now precede invasion forces. Earth was one such target. Jo' Do lead a phalanx of warriors with both strength and cunning. More soldier than spy, nevertheless, his relentlessness and intelligence would make him an excellent agent and thus he became one of the vanguard. It would mean a long time away from his clan, mate, and the four brood who gestated in her sac but a new world would bring new resources and security. How could he refuse? Earth with its rich resources, bountiful life, and lush lands was a prize indeed but it was the people who truly caught Jo'Do's attention. They were so varied in race, creed, and attitude. Many were selfish with no thought of unity or helping their people as a whole. Others though were noble, almost metamorph in their desire to make the world a better place. The super heroes, beings with incredible powers were a shining example. They were one of the most prominent threats to the invasion. His activities would bring him into conflict with several such superheroes, including Solaris who Jo'Do defeated in battle. Moved by the courage of the brash hero, Jo'Do carried Solaris from a military complex seconds before it exploded from the alien's sabotage. On the eve of the invasion, Jo'Do presented the last of his findings and waited for his battle orders. Rather than task the warrior to the frontlines, he would be one of nine who would set neutron bombs in the great cities of man. The reports, Jo'Do's particularly, made it clear that Earth people had too much free will to be enslaved and assimilated into the Empire. Their ability to produce superbeings was a threat as well and elimination of the humans was the only possible solution. The news devastated Jo'Do. Although a loyal soldier to the Empire, he was no murderer of the masses. That his report was a factor leading to the horrific plan weighed even more heavily on him. Wrestling with his conscious, he concluded that he could not allow such a travesty to occur. He pleaded for another way but was ignored. He realized that he would need allies to stop the invasion. Earth's greatest heroes, beings that he had both studied and fought, were his only hope. Yet on the eve of the invasion, they were captured by strike teams and held on the fleet's battleships. Forsaking his duty, Jo'Do freed Doctor Atomic, Athena, Archer, Blue Bolt, Glamour, Hornet, and Solaris. Together, the stopped the setting of the neutrons and then pushed back the invaders. In the celebration, afterwards, Jo'Do stood alone. He had betrayed his people, dishonored his clan, and brought untold shame to his family. Although welcomed by the new Sentinels of Justice, he would be apart: unique on this world that he had sacrificed so much for and a stranger in a strange land. Personality: Jo'Do, or the Stranger as he is better known, is a noble soul who believes strongly in duty and serving a cause greater than himself. Once, this cause was the protection of his race even to the point of enslaving other species. Raised with the concept that life was a struggle and that strength in battle was the greatest determination of morality, he was horrified that his people would use such cowardly and terrible means to achieve their goals. He has come to realize that strength without a true sense of justice is a great evil and uses his powers to protect those weaker than him, Because he is exiled from his people in disgrace, he is greatly burdened by sorrow and grief. A warrior true, he hides these deep emotions behind a stoic mask that he rarely removes even among the Sentinels. Still uncomfortable among his new friends and bewildered by Earth with its myriad cultures, he is the quietest and most reserved of the Sentinels but also perhaps its most dependable member. In his spare time, the Stranger will assume human guise and quietly explore his new world and try to understand its people. Powers: All of Jo'Do's people are metamorphs- beings able to alter their physical forms. Originally, this ability was used to mimic the shape and physical attributes of other predators on their world but with time and evolution, some can change their cellular structure to mimic different physical powers like increase or decreasing density, sprout blade-like appdenages, become malleable, etc. The Stranger can assume several alien battle forms, including a rock creature, a winged lizard creature, or a feral wolf-like being. He can also assume a wraith-like form which lowers his density to near-zero, lets him become invisible at will, or reduce only a part of his body insubstantial which he can thrust into an opponent's body to cause great pain. In normal form, he is superhumanly strong and tough. The cellular control of the Stranger gives him enhanced recovery ability but his system has difficulty coping with intense cold because it creates painful crystallization in his malleable cells. In combat, the Stranger will use whatever form is appropriate based on his tactical experience. A favorite tactic is to fly above an unsuspecting target in his dragon form, shift into his rock form, and drop down in a devastating move-through. He will also use his wraith and dragon forms as well as his skills to gather intelligence. Appearance: in his natural state the Stranger is a beige and muscular humanoid with vaguely with minimal features (thin slit for a mouth, holes for ears, and small slits for nostrils. His eyes are of human size but opaque black. His costume is mostly forest green adorned with reddish highlights. The accompanying cloak is blue and features a flared collar. Glamour thinks it's a little… garish yet other thing it suits the Stranger perfectly.
  24. Re: Character: Codename: V First off, my apologies for not saying that it was a great initial post. I haven't read the graphic novel but only seen the movie. Regardless, great job! I trimmed a few skills like Inventor, Electronics, and Computers because I didn't see him use them in the movies. Still, very close IMHO. I was going to have a Ruthless Psych Limit but changed it since V doesn't seem to target innocents. Also, in the movie: * S P O I L E R S * he kills the doctor gently, not something that I'd attribute a ruthless to. Yes, she needed to die but he was surprising gentle about it. I attributed it to a hunting your enemy more limit. The cops he killed fell under his overthrow the government limit. * S P O I L E R S * Because he used his knives to throw, I thought that this take on his combat skill levels would emphasize that more. Again, great job and my apologies that I came off as I did.
  25. Re: Character: Codename: V Based on what I saw in the movie, V is clearly superhuman in terms of physical characteristics. Give me a few minutes and I'll try my own take.
