  1. Re: Anyone have pre-made star ships??? I'm at the wrong computer to remember the author's name, but someone way in the past did a whole bunch of writeups of Traveller ships for Hero. Search the Star Hero forum for Traveller ships, but set for all posts, not time limited... Hey wait, why don't I just do that. *smacks self* It was shadowcat1313. Chris.
  2. Re: Anyone have pre-made star ships??? Well, I don't have any actual starship designs to post, but... I worked out of technical/point crunchy stuff on /how/ to build ships for my Master of Orion game. http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/86548-A-thread-for-spaceship-and-starbase-frameworks?p=2205750#post2205750 is the link. Some discussion/clarification follows along with other peoples' ideas. If there's enough interest, I may post the spreadsheets that with the tech tree data (actual weapons and stuff). Chris.
  3. Re: Angels on Earth - plot ideas needed I saw it the first time, and it still doesn't offer me a lot of help. It's a link to a list of books I don't have, probably couldn't get, and can't afford even if I could. I haven't finished going through what on that list I can actually access, but it doesn't seem to have what I need - plot ideas. I'm not trying to be snarky or rude, I'm sure you're trying to help, and I thank you for that effort. Chris.

  5. Re: Angels on Earth - plot ideas needed Let's keep the politics out of this, please? I'd say religion too, but... It's a superhero universe, it doesn't the real world's baggage. Chris.
  6. Re: Question: Multipower with Dissimilar Foci
  7. Re: how to group characteristics for the puropse of adjsutment powers? There isn't any official grouping, that's left to the interpretation of the GM and the specific power you build. Like building an Aid All Fire Powers doesn't specify they have to be built with Killing Attacks, you have to choose your own group to affect. "All Physical CHA" could be STR, DEX, and CON. "All Mental CHA" could be INT, EGO and PRE. "Strength of Mind and Body" could be BOD and EGO. And so forth. Chris.

  9. Re: Angels on Earth - plot ideas needed Not planning to set it in the official Champs Universe and I don't have access to those kinds of resources. The prophet/savior trope (hmm, must go see tvtropes.org) is a good one; perhaps there are multiple possible ones and each of the Evils has chosen a different one. The idea of temptation, risk and fall, rather than being pre-fallen should be a good counterpoint to the high powered combats. The player character in Diablo 3 /is/ an angel/demon offspring, so I'm wary of using that, but an escaped Unique monster is always good. Chris.
  10. I had an idea for a game where the PCs were angels sent down from On High to handle things on Earth. The catch is, they can't reveal themselves to be angels. And that's about as far as I got. I decided to make it a high-powered superhero game after borrowing the Great Evils from the Diablo computer game series, and decidedly /not/ wanting to run it as a Fantasy Hero rehash of said game(s). So, now I'm stuck for plot ideas. What brings them to the mortal realms and poses enough threat for angels to get involved? What are the different plans of each of the seven great evils? For those not familiar with the games, the sever great evils are: Diablo, Lord of Terror; Baal, Lord of Destruction; Mephisto, Lord of Hatred; Lilith(Andariel), Mistress of Misery(Anguish); Azmodan, Lord of Sin; Belial, Lord of Lies; and Duriel, Lord of Pain. So Herophiles, any suggestions or ideas that aren't stolen from the Diablo games? Looking more for an action/adventure RPG than a deep religious experience. Chris.
  11. Re: Enerjutsu Yes and yes, with a condition for each: If you're not talking about the named Joint Lock maneuver from UMA or the like, you're free to define the SFX of your grab any way you want. Secondly (though it applies to the first as well) you only can use the secondary styles' maneuvers if you've already studied the style. You do not have to pay for the maneuver twice. But paying for the maneuver does NOT teach you every style's use of that maneuver. Chris.
  12. So now that I've created my sense group(s): 1) What is the price for the first/base sense of the group? 2) What is the price for an additional sense in the group? Chris.
  13. For a science fiction game, I have lot of sensors built as detects that share similar SFX and builds. I think they should be part of a sense group, but I can't find any rules on making and using one. The Warp Senses group picks up the transdimensional effects of FTL travel. They are all ranged, 360 degree and Dimensional and Tracking. Senses include Warp, Flux, Interphase and Subspace. The Particle Senses group picks up high velocity high energy particles. They are all ranged, 360 degree and +9 Microscopic. Senses include Radiation, Ion, X Ray, Tachyon, Neutrino and Particle. How much does a base sense in the group cost? Does it give the shared modifiers for free after that? Chris.

  16. Re: help with limitations I kind of wonder why they're paying VPP prices for this with so little control over the outcome. Admittedly, that's why you're looking for limitation values, but here's a thought of a different color: Rather than buying a VPP, why not just buy a (probably equally expensive) skill? You could modify the skill roll based on phrasing, alignment with the deity's purpose, et al. Higher skill rolls would indicate greater pull with the deity, and you could use a rule of thumb of 5 or 10 AP per margin of success.
  17. Re: In consideration of partial effect dispel Is something wrong with using Suppress?
  18. Re: Feeding a starship crew for a year Will somebody please post the correct computation for a 1 day continuing fuel charge? I tried it three times and came up with three answers...
  19. Re: Feeding a starship crew for a year Wow. That idea is way out of left field, and actually cool enough to explore. Given that some of these will be colony ships, we can probably guarantee that it happens.
  20. I want there to be some "weight" to hauling around the large supplies of food, so the crew PCs see the effects of improvements in food technologies. At low technology a year's food supply for 25 people is a fairly substantial investment of ship space, while higher technologies would feed more people using less space and for a longer period of time. "Weight" in this case ties to the Active and Real point costs, and I'm having a hard time tying mechanics back to the SFX because Life Support: Need not Eat costs 3 points and lasts forever. Fuel Charges are the obvious choice, but of what length and should I use increased charges, the Usable by Others advantage or just pay for the power several times? Ignoring the Charges meta-cap and paying huge advantage values seems to add that "weight" I'm looking for. Which methods and breakdowns will give me incremental rather than exponential changes? Any other thoughts or suggestions (other than replicators)? Chris. I think I'm gonna need a spreadsheet.
  21. "A sense with Discriminatory can identify, distinguish and analyze ..." and costs 5 points for a single sense. A Nontargeting sense with the Targeting sense modifier can be used as a targeting sense to locate targets in combat and costs 10 points for a single sense. When building a detect that does not belong to a sense group, I'm not sure how these two modifiers interact. Does Targeting have to be purchased before Discriminatory can be purchased? If not, what does it mean to be Discriminatory and not Targeting? Chris.

    Dogfighting

Re: Dogfighting Which isn't all that surprising when I went back to the beginning of the Star Hero forums for ideas, and this thread GAVE me the idea that I'm posting now... Using martial or standard maneuvers to give some flavor to dogfighting is nothing new (see this thread) but in reading it I was struck with an idea: In a dogfight, tailing your opponent is considered to be the better position, and a lot of thought and effort goes into making this work. My idea is simple: the Grab maneuver. The "grabbed" victim is being tailed by the attacker until such time as the Grab is broken. I haven't yet come up with an effective device for breaking the grab, though opposed Combat Piloting rolls come to mind. The half DCV penalty when grabbing explains why you have wingmen taking easy shots at the pursuers. I'm still working on fleshing this idea out, comments and suggestions are welcome! Chris.
  23. Sparked by the idea that lead to my Anti Paladin thread, I had another thought. Evil PC groups have shown up before in superhero games (though they generally didn't work so well), but has anyone ever considered or played an Evil PCs Fantasy Hero game?
  24. How would I build a cool and competent Evil Paladin? I searched the boards for helpful ideas and came up dry, and Googling only brought me a handful. Right now I'm looking at 15, 30 or 45 Active Point powers, with the possibility of them being put into either a Multipower or Elemental Control (Yes, I still play 5E.) Chris.
  25. Re: How Do I Apply an Active Points Limit on Defences? Unlike the others who oppose caps, here's my serious answer. Apply the same AP limit to defenses that you do attacks. Most of the time you only need to worry about PD/ED, so 80 AP should get you 40 PD/40 ED max, about 2/3 of that Resistant (From 5E Armor; I don't use 6E). Various build styles and can affect this, but combined AP from additive powers like Damage Reduction or Damage Negation should probably total no more than 150% of the AP cap. Rule of thumb for exotic defenses is half of standard defenses. Another possible AP limit value is on CV where each CV equals 5 AP; so for the 80 AP limit, 16 OCV/DCV should be the top end.
