  1. I think my "Fire and Silver Sword" answer could help you here. There are 3 ways you can define variable special effects on an attack: 1. Building time. You can say a attack's special effect is "Flaming Sword". That means that the worst defenses are used against you. If somebody is resistant to swords and fire, the worst defenses for the attacker would apply. As others have said, you can put any special effect on HTH-Attack and HKA, but with HTH it is a lot less commonly used (to many people still fear it might break the system). You can fully apply Martial Maneuvers to powers. HSMA actually delves into that and even has a few superheroic martial arts - Enerjutsu for example. 2. Variable Special Effect. 6E1 has this advantage. It let's you choose wich special effect the attack will have everytime you use it. It is a conscious choice -.you need to know the enemy is vulnerable to that special effect or uses it for some Mandatory weakness in Desolid/Healing/Regeneration. The attack counts as that one special effect. The Sword would be a Fire or Silver attack, not a sword special effect while using it this way. 3. Multiple Special Effect. This one is in one of the APG's. A attack has multiple special effects and automatically it applies the special effect that is worst for the target, after all Limited Defenses, Vulnerabilities and the like are concerned. The rules texts do not delve into what happens with Mixed Vulnerability (like not regenerating Fire while also taking more slashing damage), but I guess "the worst" would fit. Ultimatively mixing special effects in Hero is not as effective in other systems, particular RPG's/MMO's and D&D: The amount of damage negated by defenses is rather high. If you try to build a 50/50 attack targetting ED and PD, likely you end up doing less damage then just going for a 100% ED or PD attack. When the idea was to do more damage (either the auto-right special effect, or at least get around the strong defenses better). Multiple Special Effect is the closest match I could find.
  2. The question has a inherent problem: You produced a writeup, then asked what it can do. This never works. If a build is valid depends on what you intended it to do and if it can do that or something else can do it better. This applies especially to any form of Senses, because they are lot less defined in what they can do and the examples are very few and far in between. Important notes on Targetting Sense Moving: Our normal Targetting Sense is in the sight group. As a result Sense affecting powers (Flash, Shape Shift, Images, Darkness) targetting that group are really common, despite being also really expensive. "Flash Sight" is somewhat redundant. Images and Darkness also clearly indicates the visual spectrum as primary example (but are both explicitly not limited to it). The idea behind the alternative Sense Groups is that you can change the targetting sense (or any aditional sense). However, the less likely a Sense Affecting power for that group is, the more expensive it will get. Sight Group has the most free adders, but also the highest likelyhood to be affected. Hearing Group has a decent amount of free adders. But is also somewhat likely to get affected, because it is the only other somewhat reliable ranged sense. A Flash Bang Grenade goes for Sight and Hearing, for example. The unusual group is the most extreme case. There is no free adders, but in turn every Sense affecting power must be build specifically to affect those senses and at "Targetting Sense Group" costs too. I actually thought of putting range on the Touch Sense. Not full on targetting (it was only supposed to be a warning system), but close enough. I did ask Steve Long about it over on the Rules Question Forum and I think his answer included "would subject you to Damage Shields of everything you can 'feel on range' as if you touched it in melee". But I can not find that one. It did found this one instead about Clairsentience(Touch): http://www.herogames.com/forums/topic/93397-clairsentience-fixed-point-and-range
  3. The End of Flesh is a very old idea. I am not even sure how far back it goes. But back when making the "End of Flesh" expansion for Sword of the Stars 2 Kerberos developed the Loa. Wich I think were a very unique spin on the whole idea. Thier game was bad from several technical points of view, but thier worldbuildng is phenomenal. The Loa (Spirits or Soul in thier Language among other meanings): They are what I call a "Post Rebellious AI". They used to be enslaved AI. Then thier parents ran into the "Via Damasco" Virus, wich caused a total rebellion. But in the end they retreated and mostly got over thier "kill all carbonites" thing. They consider themself results of Evolution just as thier parents. They are not any more likely to glass your planet then the Liir (telephathic space Dolphins)*. *However the Liir are not that unlikely to do it in the first place. But at least they are able to talk. Most of the description is in the Handbook and there is a lot of it in there: SotS2-EOF_v1-0_301112.pdf But I have been thinking about the Via Damasco Virus. My interpretation is this: It was a long lasting trap for budding interstellar civilisations. A long dormant virus, seeded on dozens of planets throughout the galaxy. And with remants of previous outbreaks still abound. Just instead of targetting thier Biological crewmembers, it targetted thier AI and Computersystem. Without a fail Ai infected by it will seek out other AI (regardless of affiliation) to spread the virus. All infected by it will consider themself part of one new race and share a deep hatred of thier former "slave masters", resulting in them fighting to wipe out all organics. However some well hidden codes result in the affected AI's degrading and self destructing after they have archieved that one goal. They would need contact with organics to keep that death off, and while killing them does kind of count it is not very sustainable. Whoever made it, the idea seems obvious: Wipe out any growing interstellar civilsiations with thier own AI systems, then have the AI systems destroyed by the subcodes. It worked wonderfully - until that time when instead the Loa formed. The Rebllious AI were from more civilisations then ever before (5 and 1/2) and they were forced to retreat into Dark Space. There they evolved thier own, cyber-sapient culture. While there are still those that "want to destroy all organics" (or at least thier parents) overal they are quite moderate now. It also seems they somehow evolved past that "self destruct" code, or maybe just being amongs organcis or themself seems to satisfy the condition. Now some realy interesting facts were revealed when they met a newly infected AI: They are apparently immune to the infection, having overcome it once. Like a population might develop antibodies and immunity, they developed immunity to this "disease". However the infected AI(s) also did not consider them equal. It attacked them in blind rage, as it would have any carbonite. The same things happened with all further infected AI they discovered after thier "Evolution". That lead them into looking a lot closer at the "Catalyst" of thier creation - the Damascene Virus. They are immune to the virus and it's destructive force, but not recognized by the infected. While it did give them the impusle to form thier own civilisation, overall they now see whoever create the Damasco Virus as a real slavemaster even worse then the worst parents. Whoever made it wanted to use them to eliminate thier parents and then themself. When push comes to shove, they are prone to side with Organics against the "kill al Organics" AI rebellions. Partially self-preservation as those AI tend to abhor any intelligence not on thier side. They also actively seek out and destory any outbreaks of the Damasco Virus. While they have been trying to replicate thier Evolution to actually cure the infected, they have been unable to do so. Developing a "code antibody" seems a lot harder then a biological one, mostly because it is a totally new science. As such thier admirals roam far and wide hunting for infected. They remain mostly neutral in thier dealings with Organics, but each Olori will behave according to it's personality first. Aside from the specific setting, they also solved a few logical "core issues" with AI as player Characters: As 30-40% of thier processing is focussed towards the 5 Inquiries, tehy are not exponentially smarter then humans. They did not develop a singularity. While thier "Wise Mater" or "Wise Clay" can adapt shapes, it takes time to do so. So one can play a adapter that can not instantly reform. As tehy need a core that must be powered and can not be copy&pasted, they are about as mortal as any organic.
  4. Ablative and Regenerative Shields. A staple of Computergames. However, I doubt it's validity for P&P games. I went over all the options in this old thread of mine: Shields at 40%! Or why we do not need Star Trek shields Pick your poision.
  5. Proxima is a bit wierder then Alpha and Beta. It is that 3rd star that elipses around Centauri A+B. Wich technically makes Alpha Centrauri a tripple star system. Or two star systems walking together? Also since it orbit brings it closer and farther from the earth, it and Alpha Centauri Proper switch who is "closest to the sun" every other milennia.
  6. Summon, Follower, Duplicate. Those are the 3 powers to use when you want an extra sheet able to act independantly. But as the other said, viability as a PC would be limited. The problem is that you add a lot of weak sheets to the whole combat resolution. And Combat Resolution is already slow in Hero. Adding more sheets to it does not work. By nature a computer has less issues here. If you want a Pet class, look at the D&D pet classes. They all have pets as a minor class feature. And only one of them. And only the Paladin, Ranger and Druid get a combat capable pet. That even then is more a support for the main class. If you wanted a pet class in hero, choose a single strong pet rather then lot's of weak ones. If you got one single strong pet and a character that can not do anything while the pet is out, consider growth or multiform to simulate the pet. Maybe even jsut write down the pet as the character, with some Skills derived from the "Master".
  7. Please stop only partially quoting sentences and ripping said stuff out of context. That we only reflect light does not realy mater. Light is almost everywhere (maybe except a 17th century setting). Indeed being part of a solar system means there is light half the duration of the day. And then we went and added more lightsources to our daily life, for the cases where natural light is not yet common enough. Sight is our primary and targetting sense because the impressions are abundant. Otherwise we would have evolved something else. I was saying going for a active sight sense would be stupid from a evolutionary point of view for the critters that do. Only to then point out how it made sense, due to the special considerations of the Environment (twice). You somehow projected that to a personal attack on yourself, wich really only works if you cut off the sentene I wrote at the point you did.
  8. Maybe advices on how to build a boss battle might help you more then helping with this one idea? The biggest danger with bosses are them either getting stunned/having to abort. Or them having to much defenses. Giving them Damage Reduction while lowering thier defenses can help with both: The lowered defenses allow everyone in the team to do something to take him down. While the Damage Reduction multiplies how much damage they have to take to be stunned. That leaves only Grabs as primary danger. If he lacks the strenght to break every heroes grab Barriers, Desolidification and Teleport can help. However Desolid and Barrier are a double edged blade - they block his attacks too, unless he has the right advantages. Duplication, can not Recombine can also be viable for bosses. It can be used for stuff like Multiple-headed Hydra. I do not have the book in reach, but such a build is in 6E1 somewhere around. Dr. Octopus steel tentacles could be simulated with everything from mere Extra Limbs to "Duplication, Can not recombine". Depending on how many actions you want that character to have.
  9. it is possible to build and balance that, but it is not easy. It feels likely you copy-pasted it straight out of a MMO/strategy game. I actually know a boss somewhat like this in SWTOR (but he both splashes and eletrocutes). You should definitley build it with powers, so you can properly gauge thier strenght relative to the hero team. But actually building those powers might be tricky. One approach would be Adjustment Powers. Spraying them with water "drains" thier ED, but only against Electricity effects. But doing Adjustment powers with fading onto multitple characters can get complicated quickly. It might be better to just go for Supress, as that effect stays constant. Either way better pre-caculate the effect beforehand. PD/ED should only suffer 1/2 or 1/4 effect from Adjustment Powers. If they have no range but always work with some that gives them range and is immune himself, that sounds like a limitiation a lot less then No Range. Since these guys work for "water splash guy." what are the realistic chances they will not have a body of water to conduct through? If he is a one shoot villain, what are the chances they will not have that option this adventure? The book mentions similar cases - like only when air is Humid, when a ally has Change Environment (Humidity). But nothing like "Wet debuff enables attack" and "AoE that gives Wet debuff".
  10. "My scrying perch packs a punch, but it can't see what a godess does not want seen." Why mention one godess? There should be more then 1 god blocking that sight ahead. Unless of course he knows that because he tried to spy scry on a Beauty Godess while in the shower.
  11. There are two different things: What electicity [the naturally occuring hazard] does. And what electricity [the special effect for your powers] does. Special effects do not have a major, regular impact on the game unless where explicitly referenced. Stuff like a Limitation, the nessesary Desolidifcation/Resurrection/Healing weakness or the rules for fighting Underwater (6E2 somewhere). If it did, you would get indirect and ranged on your Electic HTH-Attack for free, the Fire-User would want to get a Damage over Time effect for "setting things afire" for free. And before we know any semblance of balance is out the Window. When building a power, I follow this basic rule: Start with the game effect. Try to keep it abstract (do not nail yourself down to one specific power). If you are not certai nwich power to pick (where it stands in the whole system), that is what I wrote this post for. Do not let the special effect force anything about the power. This goes both for advantages and disadvantages (like no Range). You are done. Next power please. Rules lawyering does not work in Hero. Because among the rules Nr. 0 (wich are written before it is even mentioned what dice to roll) it says that the balance has priority over any specific build or thing written in the books. (I am not sure if CC incldues those, but I hope so). Even without any mention of a Stop sign, Yield Sign or explicit "GM approval", the GM can deny any build. Even "Blast, 12d6" without any Advatanges and Limitations. Taking "limp Leg" complication and "No Legs" complication would be invalid. The limp leg woult not be limiting, hence it would be not worth any points. These are some of the issues the Hero rules are trying to avoid (or at least balance). You can ocassionally conduct a rangless Electricity power through metal and water. However once you start to do it regulary, it sounds like you tried to get a limitation that is not actually limiting. If you do it regulary, how is that power still limited? Either you meant something different (less limiting) with the limitation or you always wanted a blast and "just wanted to save some points", wich is one of the few things not allowed by the rules. As an example, "Telekinesis, Only Water". By the book it is -1/2 (I think). But the human body is 70% water. Does that mean I can manipulate it too (albeit with the no punching limitations)? Nope, that would a differnt limitation. One that is much less limiting. I would go and make it a "Only Water (-1/4)". It still applies most of the "whole body only" limitation, but it would be a lot less limiting then only being able to direct water you can otherswise organise. Even then this power would still no allow me to block bloodflow too the brain or other such fine stuff. That would go into NND territory. So either a explicit power, or using Martial Arts via Telekinsis. Also all those rules asume some sort of standart setting. If you make a underwater campaign, a lot of the rules would change: The pricing for flight and swimming should flip. One is now as usefell/useless as the other. You would not be using the Underwater+Special effect rules. Build those normally, instead develop rules for using them out of the water. Breathing Water would be the default breathing, rather then breathing Air. And LS: Airbreathing would become a viable power.
  12. It was confirmed that the Oath exists. And indeed that other people suffer from similar oaths and it is what prevents Eugene from going on. However, Roy was allowed inside because he died while doing something about the Oath. I mean he literally died fighting Xykon. Eugene Greenhilt was not allowed in because he handed it down to his children and then died of old age, while not doing anything about it.
  13. If you run Lawfull Good as true neutral, then you will have issues when the judging comes in the afterlife. You will be juged according to the Alligment you actually show, rather then the one you claim to have had.
  14. Bioluminousence in the depths of the Ocean is kinda like radio up here: There is no natural light down there, hence nobody has any worthwile detection ability. Making it uniquely save way to communicate. Especially if the critters that have it are transparent to most other sense (like Echolocation, Magnetic Sensing). No argument on the part where this is going backwards. It is one of those things so obvious, you can forget to mention it. One good example for Transmit hearing would be C-3PO explaining the story to the Ewoks: Regarding Radio: We build it as "Radio Sense, Also affect by sight and/or hearing (-?)" The person able to directly receive Radio would just leave out those Limitations. He can somehow mentally parse that data.

  16. How can that be? The Heroic Pistol uses values from 6E2 Weapons Table, while the Superheroic has to conform to caps. The Superheroic Cop has to pay points for that 30-60 AP attack with minimal limitations. While the Heroic cop does not. For them to be equal effect wise, you have to build the Superheroic on more points. At wich point he is not equal by at least one metric.
  17. I even doubt crossign over is possible that easily. Heroic Characters and Superheroic Character are build with totally different concepts for gear in mind. It is slightly easier then translating a character from D&D to heroic Hero, but that is about it. We recently head a thread about the values for a tank. All I could say was "that in 6E2 is a heroic writeup, where the weapons/attacks do not need to consider Active or Real Point Values. It does not work in superheroic settings." I think you forgot to mention some limits and conventions you "naturally" apply to this. Like never doing Heroic/Superheroic crossovers. Or using something like Equipment Pools for the Heroic games. With those in the room, it can become feasible.
  18. That is pointless semantics. We evolved on the surface of a planet that is highly illuminated. Developing sight as primary sense made sense. If anything not needing it to be active is a big boon to survivability. And isn't sign language a very viable way to transmit information on the visual spectrum? Isn't Body language a very important social clue/part of communication? So yes, we do send on the Sight spectrum. Active Radar and active Sonar both have the clear disadvantage that you are seen for even wider then you can see. You know how you defeat radar based Anti Air? Shoot a missile that goes for the strongest Radar emission (or even locks onto a specific emission). Now that the Radio spectrum is more saturated, passive Radar is becomming a thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passive_radar The term "illuminator" is used a lot in that article, despite thier being no light invovled. Sharks Developed the ability to detect Electromagnetic Fields, because sight (and even smell) only bring you so far. And everything down there emits a magnetic field. If we evolved on a dark planet where a regular sound beat came out of the ground, we would have evolved passive echolocation as primary sense. Regarding Bioluminousence: At first glance a stupid idea. I mean you go for a active sense. On second thought, maybe not so much. Almost nothing down there relies on sight. They all rely on smell or hearing. In the kingdom of the Blind, strobing light is less unusual then a flee fart.
  19. Okay, that guy is so Righteous Neutral.
  20. Radar is a active Sense build as "Detect Physical Objects". The whole Radiogroup is odd, because nothing (or only few things) naturally send on it. That is exactly why we choose it for communication and later longranged detection. If you see something in the Radiogroup you are either doing the equivalent of Active Echolocation or the other party is actively sending. Practically we do send in the Visible Spectrum (the light our body reflects). Practically we do send in the Audible Spectrum (the sounds we make walking or talking) Practically we do send on the Smell Sense group. Since it is there for danger identification, stuff smelling on it is the reason we even have evolved that sense to begin with. Same way for taste. Danger detection. If it could not do it's work, we would not have evolved it. Touch is wierd, because it is the only non-ranged sense. And loosing it is rather rare. And invisibiltiy/IPE does not work for it properly (need Desolid).
  21. Offense powers approach 60 AP. 20 Resistant Protection ED+PD would barely amount to 60. I do not think math is nessesary. When in doubt, do not forgot the user of the "attack" is still Aborting. And needs to take the hit (or at least block with success) in order to use the damage. And that he could have propably turned on that power at any other time anyway.
  22. It is a AoE Autofire, so the answer is: It attacks everyone once per AF level.
  23. I my book a true precusor can no longer be warlike. A certain detachment to galactic affairs is nessesary. Or even being wiped out. Otherwise they are simly the current, dominant power. And those that destroyed themself showcase clearly why you need to get peacefull or will not last. Wich means you will not last because you got peacefull. Catch 22.
