  1. Re: Are PD and ED far too cheap? You know, there is a reason why Defense Caps are listed separately than Active Point Caps. . . . Just sayin'.
  2. Re: Are PD and ED far too cheap? You miss the point of needing to double up the cost of defenses. It's because you want to protect against all incoming attacks. Unless the GM says something explicit like "all Attacks in this campaign are PD only" then you - the defender - need to purchase defenses against both types.
  3. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far I don't think 5th fans are going away. I know at least one of my campaigns won't be switching. We'll wait until it ends to change over. The other... the campaign has been going on since 3E, and even has a GURPS Spin Off section, so the campaign could actually be in both 5 and 6E at the same time depending on which group of players is involved. With luck I can get into a 6E game before the year is out. Otherwise, I'll just start one.
  4. Re: Are PD and ED far too cheap? Ah yes... if you want to completely block 1D6 Killing Attack: 6 Points Resistant Defense: 9 Character Points 24 Points Non-Resistant Defense: 24 Character Points 31 Character Points. and that's just PD or ED. Not both. Looks like twice the cost under 5E Rules. Let's use the 6E Rules and say the STUNx is 1d3. 6 Points rDEF 12 Points Normal Def 21 Points. And that's just PD or ED. Not both. That completely mitigates a full 1D6 Killing Attack. Assuming you just want to deal with the average of the D6. 3 Points rDef. weird number, let's make it 4rDEF. 6 Points 3 Points Normal Def (to get 7 total ~average). 3 Points 9 Points, that's just PD or ED. Not Both. About 2/3 of 15 Points. Double that to get both PD and ED. Yep... system is still fine with regards to Def Cost vs Attack Cost.
  5. Re: Are PD and ED far too cheap? to completely mitigate 3 Damage Classes (1D6) of Killing you need 6 rDEF. that's 9 Points or Armor. That's about 2/3 of the cost of the Attack. Add into the equation that you don't know if you have to counter PD or ED and you have to double your Defensive Costs. That's 18 Character Points to defend against 1D6 Killing, 9PD/9ED. The system is fine.
  6. Re: Master List of Limitations Gone??!! Thanks, I prefer simplicity over cool clicky things.
  7. Re: Fooling Telepathy They are right. It bothers me.
  8. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #1: ACV And AVAD If you're recoupling CVs back to Characteristics, it stands to reason that you could also likely adapt ACV to your needs. But, hey, judge the rule without reading it first. Suits me. I'll just say it's not BOECV renamed.
  9. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Long time no quote.. a bunch from the last couple of sessions of the Defenders. I don't even remember context for some of them. Enigma: Only because I was out of ammo. Damn you Calamity Jane, damn you! The campaign world had a major event in 2001 - all the superheroes then present died. (someone): Did anything important happen in 2001? Built To Last (To Promethean): I say we tie your hands behind your back, feed you a bunch of alkaseltzer so that you foam at the mouth. . . Enigma (on the nature of magic): Coming back from Faery is like wearing Disney Ears. GM: He's actually going to do something smart. Built To Last: This is gonna suck, I'm gonna be a dog again. A battle in the park, the enemy is wearing white, as does Enigma, an errant shot manages to knock all of the melee combatants into the fountain - all of them women it happens. Enigma (OOC): If the fountain water were made of jello - the battle would be made of awesome.
  10. Re: Fooling Telepathy I just don't like that Mental Powers can be instantly useless after a successful attack. it's like saying "You hit, you did enough damage to get past his defenses, oh wait, he rolled his dodgy-roll and nothing happens" for Energy Blast. it's total BS.
  11. Re: Fooling Telepathy I think you managed to find the one bit of handwavium I wouldn't allow. And I'm all for Handwavium. It's one of my favorite elements.
  12. Re: Around the World With A New Character Each Week I opened the character TXT file in Text Edit, selected and copied the contents, then pasted into my reply.

  14. Re: Fooling Telepathy I noticed Kyltus posted a question to Steve in his rules forum... I'd like to point out that there is not "one right way" to do this and that all the solutions presented here in this thread are valid solutions that answer your question - it's up to you and the GM to pick the one most appropriate to your campaign.
  15. Re: Around the World With A New Character Each Week In the chat, you said you had trouble posting a character directly into a post... 16. Re: Fooling Telepathy It's not a RAW rules construct, in fact, it's so hand wavy it hurts. Breakout Rolls occur at set times only. You can't buy more, much less put them on a Trigger.
  17. Re: Gaslamp Champions Technically, the days of High Piracy had been over for a good 100-150 years by the time the 1800s rolled around...
  18. Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign Sam's fuel depot disappeared ...
  19. Re: Are PD and ED far too cheap? Just using Normal Attacks, since I'm unsure what level of rDEF you want to apply to the test, and halving the cost of Stun (since Body REC is done over such a long period I didn't include it here)... Points in Defense PD/ED 8 Body 15 -you start to take Body @ 9 Damage Classes -You are never instantly Killed, or Instantly brought to 0 Body Point in Stun/Rec PD/ED 2 Body 15 -you start to take Body @ 3 Damage Classes -You are instantly killed @ 18 Damage Classes, brought Instnatly to 0 Body @ 17 DCs In this scenario, no matter how you look at it, you need Defenses. Stun is not a comparable Characteristic in any way, at any cost. Also, if you are playing with Bleeding Rules you take Stun at an accelerated Rate due to Taking 1 Stun per Body Damage Through Defenses. Since you want to know if increasing Stun/REC/CON is viable over increasing Defenses - Adequate is such an entirely subjective output I don't believe it will be useful. Adequate for what? 60AP game? 12DC game? 16DC game? predominately KA Games (many modern genres)? What is "adequate"? Halving the cost of Stun to 1:2 will let you last longer against Stun Only Attacks than buying the equivelant points in Defenses. You will be Stunned faster, but take longer to be KO'd. A character with Defenses can both mitigate bad rolls completely and take Recoveries. A character who spent points in Stun/REC can only take Recoveries, and simply prolong the inevitable with bad rolls. I have other things to do besides play around with these numbers some more. Buying more Stun and Recovery will prolong you life in Combat at any level, no matter the pricing but pronoucedly so if you halve Stun. Defenses are still the better choice IMO. But that's also because I believe Mitigation is better than Soaking in all circumstances.
  20. Re: Are PD and ED far too cheap? Make all Defneses Resistant, Half, or something else? This also alters the point calculations. Either increasing Points, or decreasing defensive level.
  21. Re: Are PD and ED far too cheap? Are we trying to include Resistant Defenses?
  22. Re: Are PD and ED far too cheap? Alright. Will be done a little later today.
  23. Re: Would you allow the white knight defense? I can assure you it is not a DoJ 5th Edition supplement of any nature - and thus any rules discussed in it are generally not useful for these boards unless you've made a note that it is a specific house rule in your specific campaign. The 5E book would be The Ultimate Mystic. For the record, in 5E, a Power must cost Endurance to be placed in an Elemental Control - either inherently or because Costs Endurance Limitation was added.
