  1. Re: your thoughts on size Ummm I thought size didn't matter to chicks? ******************* OK well those classifications are not in HERO. I'd would just give him 4-6 levels of Growth Inherent to simulate his size. I know it is not the STEVE way but Steve occasionally errs. This is one place. Hawksmoor
  2. Re: Irene, <- Cloths Make the Woman I like the fcuk me boots. What she needs is "Make him bark like a dog jeans!" Hawkmoor -whistling
  3. Re: Irene, <- Cloths Make the Woman That is just silly. +10 COM would be just fine. OTOH I think that -1/2 is a good limitation on the slots since the powers are a MP and not a VPP. After all the limitation could be bypassed by absconding with the supermodel's undies after Irene rescues her from the Villianous Mad Mod. Hawksmoor -needs scotch. two fingers.
  4. Re: Mental Powers good point TRL which is why I always point to the -3 EOCV -10 effect (-5 Ego Blast) rules in 5e and 5er. That gives exactly what you are suggesting. Only I took two lines. Hawksmoor
  5. Re: How to get them off d20 This might be heresy but one thing would be to perhaps ummm Give the players free skill points when the characters deserve them to be spent on skills the character's might have learned. Give them languages. Give them real rewards for roleplaying besides gear and magic. Let the plot and the story dictate the characters not the rules. You know chuk the system when the system is not working? So what if you can't play the PC in a tournament. Not like that is such a big deal anyway. D&D is a good game. There are little things I would do better, but on the whole it is solid. Hawksmoor
  6. Re: Post your most abusive munchkin character here Yes, alas Hero Designer thinks it is a good build. I am going to have to read 5er and see if this "error" is explained. EDIT: Yes, for "standard" charges the cap stays at +1. For nonstandard, which the book takes to be continuing charges the advantage does not cap. But that is not how Champsguy built him. It is just a straight nonsense number plugged in to cover an obvious hole in the rules Result: Captain 5er is just flat broken. I am humbled that someone actually thought out that build. Hawksmoor
  7. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Saw the process piece work before, and I must say that the final really is visual storytelling. Good Work! But then you don't need me to tell you that. Hawksmoor
  8. Re: Post your most abusive munchkin character here Technically the charges build on the Endurance Reserve is broken. There is only a cap on the cost of powers that do not normally cost END, and that is capped at +1/2. If the power costs END then the advantage cost can raise very very high. So a googleplex of charges would increase the cost of a power by a googleplex. The Munchkin King fails I am afraid. Hawksmoor
  9. Re: Unusual recurring themes Way back in high School, I ran a three GM Champions/MSH game where the weather always turned nasty as a GM switch occurred. Now we were playing in Oklahoma so the weather normally did screwy things but I would like have tornadoes in downtown and massive lightning storms. Funny thing was I didn't realize I was doing it until one of the players pointed out "Bad storm's rollin' in...could be a new GM." Hawksmoor
  10. Re: Velocity Discrepancies Strangely for all that I am used to exponential movement from the old MAyfair DC Heroes game I cannot see it working effectively in HERO's speed charted environment. The only way I can see it working would be to "delete" the speed chart by making everyone a default 4 or 6 Speed. Of course I do like that with your system I can finally have 500kph of *combat movement* and outdistance f-14s if I want too. Hawksmoor
  11. Re: Is Punisher the problem? Unless of course you realize Neil and VdM's statement about the screws and real world equipment. Free equipment has strings and conditions, paid for equipment is immune to all that, up to and until the rules for focus destruction and all that. So even if Gunbunny pays points for an identical pistol to the free one that Omega Man is now sporting, Gunbunny can use his "gun" in more places and has less worry than Omega Man. Hawksmoor
  12. Re: Is Punisher the problem? I like this idea. Mostly for the use of real world computers and telecommunications gear. Cell phones and tactical radios are great ways to reach out and touch your teammates. A gun from the gun show is not going to be as powerful as Omega Man's Photonic Bolts but if Omega Man wants to carry one why not? So if Bendilass feels outpowered by Omega Man plus Glock 9 then Bendilass can just pick up a semiauto shotgun for free as well. The mundane gear doesn't cost *points* so how can it be unbalancing? The weapon has the real weapon limitation doesn't it? That means it doesn't get to do cool stuff. Plus unless the character has an appropriate WF: the gun is of less utility. Hawksmoor
  13. Re: stun Ohh easy. Stun and Body are tracked separately. An attack compares the total of damage from the roll to either PD or ED depending on the SFX and declaration of the player at character conception (Cold damage could be ED or PD), The body is counted by the dice rolled adding 0 body for each 1 rolled, 1 bobody for each die with a result of 2-5, and 2 body for a result of 6. If the PD or ED of the character is high enough no Body is done to the character. In HERO it is very likely that an attack would deal no body but a considerable amount of stun. Lastly 1 stun is inflicted at a minimum for each point of Body damage taken. This effect is most commonly seen on powers with the penetrating advantage. I your case unless the Armor was bought as Force Wall the character still takes damage even though his armor blocked the Body damage. His ED or PD (including Armor) is subtracted from the stun total.
  14. Re: Disadvantages of being Undead The Master List of Limitations perhaps? Requires specialized medical treatment might go along way towards needed Necromancy based healing spells treatments. Social Limitation: Legally dead is a good one as is Social Limitation: Dead for all the "Ewww! he's a Zombie!" reactions Hawksmoor
  15. Re: Mental Powers I hold my views since the gameworld in which I play the most has the following rule: ************************************** Mental Powers and Classes of Mind: By default, mental powers automatically affect the class of minds to which the possessor of the mental powers belongs (e.g., a human affects human minds, a machine affects machine minds, and so on). Affecting an additional class of mind is a +10 point adder as always, with the exception of alien minds. Since each alien species is different, the mentalist must purchase the adder for every species he wishes to affect. The first alien species costs +10 points as always, but each species after costs only +3 points. It should be noted that the "Humans" class of minds include sentient apes and Tautiq, due to the mechanical similarity between the brains of those species, as well as to the similarity of their thought patterns. ********************************** Personally I hate it. I use the Penalty system in my small F2F game. The rulebook says Alien and that is how Jack read it and applied it to the GGU.
  16. Re: Non-flying Flight questions You can however make two Half Moves with each of your forms of movement. Thus the 0 turn radius power of 2" Teleport position shift coupled with a 1/2 move flight action works. Thus you could use perfect balance for 1/2 your movement and Superleap for the other half. In my game if the end result was the same I'd let you freely shift between modes as long as you paid full end for each form of locomotion as you traveled along a path. But that is just me and my game philosophy of Yes! Hawksmoor
  17. Re: Stat Increase = Skill Increase? The kid is 19 again right? So Whamme what's up with the alcohol knowledge? OTOH Intrigue: Welcome! Your idea is insane but welcome to the HERO Boards. We love dissenters, they taste good with ketchup. I'll look up the rules in 5er and see what they say. Hawksmoor
  18. Re: Best example of role-playing a disadvantage I actually think anytime a player actually uses his disads on himself without GM insistence that us a good example. To whit my Dawnstars PC Chimera has a limitation from the Master List called Manchurian Candidate. Her symptom/cause is that the biosuit she wears is actually a lifeform created by a worldbeater archvillian called Abyss. From time to time the suit, takes over and does something...strange. I had her fall off a building after stopping a mugging and plunge deep into a venice canal as her suit took over. What she did between that time and when she crawled out of the bay onto the Miranda was up to the GM to decide. I had her unconciously move toward Forrestal, our team plant empath, because the suit was more comfortable around him as opposed to the cold wielding Nordcapp Man. The suit is vulnerable to cold attacks, but since Chimera has never had a cold weapon used on her she has no idea. I have a slight gag going on where Allegra (the PC) likes Grak (Nordcapp Man...a Neandertal) but the suit likes Erich (Forrestal) Chimera also has access to a vast fortune (15 wealth) but she doesn't access more than say 5-7 points because she thinks that her hunted (Father the PM of Italy) will notice and end her gig as a superhero. 19. Re: Mental Powers I come at this issue from the opposite end. Dontchya love that? It is not that Venus Mindcontroller has to either pay more points or accept Penalties to her ability to cause mass swooning of the human male population. Or that her powers are somehow worth the same amount of points as Computo, the man with the Electronic Brain. It is that Squato, the alien brick, with 8 EGO and no mental defense is suddenly either immune to almost all mental powers or has free mental defense (10 or 5 points depending on the power used against him). So SFX suddenly trumps points? Since when? And now that we cleared that up since I paid points for Squato to be Immune to Intense heat he is now by points and SFX totally immune to your character's flame blast. Didn't work did it? So we're back to square one and the fact that SFX does not trump points and that simply saying "I have a dog mind!" does not give you more capability or reduce the capability other character' have paid for. Hawksmoor
  20. Re: Your Character's Room at the Base hmmm interesting... Lessee? Chimera: Aside from the normal posh quarters provided by the Ziani group onboard the floating fortress called Miranda, Chimera has stocked the room with the latest equipment she can get her hands on from their suppliers: She is such a tech geek. Her bed is a rumpled mess of silk with a fine goosedown comforter. Her clothes are often just strewn about the room in various stages of clean. Her biosuit often *rests* in the window of her quarters but has been know to scuttle along the floor to keep itself in the light. Robotman: Robert Secord is trying to have a normal life so he has a bed and dressers and mirrors and everything a normal person would have. But he never sleeps in the bed, only needing 8 hours a week he just shuts down a few minutes here and there for *system updates*. His closet is filled with colorful clothes that rarely last a week due to the stresses his armature places upon them. His walls are adorned with photos from his travels shooting movies and coordinating stunts plus several posters of films he has worked on. Hardcase: Lorenzo Garfeild lives in Miss Sadie's house so he has a room with a smallish full bed and a hand sewn lace coverlet with blue and pink flowers on it. Every three days Miss Sadie changes out a vase with fresh flowers. Lorenzo doesn't own much so he keeps his stuff in the small three drawer dresser near the window. He has a worn and faded picture of his family back in Chicago in a new frame on the bureau. Hawksmoor
  21. Re: Is Mind Scan broken? OK if that is a fear then tailor your game so that odd powers and the like never show up. Tell the players that ! powers/talents are heavily restricted and that [sTOP SIGN] powers are verboten. Hawksmoor
  22. Re: Danger Rooms Of course sending a note to Ben Seeman and seeing if it could be uploaded to the FREE STUFF section of the website might work. Hawksmoor -Just sayin' thats all
  23. Re: Is Mind Scan broken? Old Mentalist Sniper ruse... Only true way to stop the use of sniping is to make the *player* of a character with Mind Scan know up front that such actions do not make for a good game, BEFORE he even attempts to use them. If this does not work, ask the player again "Are you certain this is the mode you wish to take?" If the player persists give him 0 *ZERO* XP for the adventure. It is all about the tone you want to set. Does Saturn Girl sit at Legion HQ and mindzap the villians? No. She is up in the line up dodging Mano like everyone else. Hawksmoor
  24. Re: Mental Powers I can see how one could look at it very literally and come up with class of minds as being an option. I even think that it is. Most of the time they can just be dispensed with and do as you suggest and work purely on SFX: Most minds are effected only a few rare ones are not. I merely point out that the adder system is one option and the modifer rules are another for effecting minds different from the power user. Hawksmoor
  25. Re: Mental Powers Third paragraph on pg 117 5er. Mentions the option I used. Hawksmoor
