  1. Re: a few BoECV Questions It works like a regular Mental Power. Its range becomes LOS and it is targeted and defended by EGO based combat value. Not generally, although with the limited utlity of special defenses I recommend, as do the GGU house rules, that they be considered resistant for free. Yep, just about. Although remember the RKA does not do any body unless you purchase the +1 Does Body Adder. Yes, but honestly unless you are trying to kill Menton I wouldn't bother. The amount of MD you are likely to face runs in the 10 point range. Use EGO/5 for dice, allow the use of EGO Blast or even Telepathy instead of strength as an optional breakout. Hawksmoor
  2. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. And we should shortly be seeing the Crimson Avenger.
  3. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Right. Hawksmoor
  4. Re: Loop model of RPGs and why long chargen is okay Hi, I am a nice guy. I agree with everything you just said. Hawksmoor
  5. Re: Loop model of RPGs and why long chargen is okay He can't. Honest debating skills were never purchased for his character and he got a physical limitation saying he can never buy them. Hawksmoor -What? I'm on his Ignore anyway.
  6. Re: Loop model of RPGs and why long chargen is okay Actually 90% of combat is determined at character gen. Your PC is either capable dealing with the threats and situations in the campaign or it isn't. You can hedge by being creative, but for instance if you are playing a 10 INT Energy Projector with Plasma powers you should be limiting your 'bright ideas' to what a 10 INT character should be able to concieve of. 7. Re: Does Seeker still suck? Correct he needs weapon element. He does not need WF: Clubs since he paid for his. Also they are no great shakes weapons, so if NH finds one and uses it very likely it is going to "stat out" identically to his own. So I would rule no non familiarity modiifers apply. Hawksmoor
  8. Re: Superhero Football I really do think that Juggernaut has to be on the Marvel Menaces offense team. As a full back his 'Once in motion nothing can stop him' schtick would come in to play and Hulk, Thor or Atlas on the Defensive Line are not going to be able to stop him. Slow him down, but they can never stop him. Hawksmoor
  9. Re: How to get them off d20 Meh. Tyrus evolved into needing 4 classes to define. He started out just as a fighter, got more in touch with his orcish berserker side, then found balance in the worhip of Meiliki. If I continued the game Tyrus would have likely ended up as a Chosen. The rest of the party were just as Iconic but no one matched Tyrus for class flipping. They stayed mostly true to their roots, although the wandering wizard Sargen did pick up a level of Bard from his travels. The level was useful given his penchant for magick, stories and maps. It also gave the PC weapon skills the Player really wanted so his precious XP could be spent on a long sword enchanted by the character. Hawksmoor
  10. Re: Some questions which are coming up. The never recovers limitation is just a different veiw of Independent. The points are locked up in the power. Use up the power and the power is gone. If the player was not aware of this allow them to take the points back and rebuild a more acceptable power. Perhaps with the expedble but recoverable charges option requiring the wand or like be rebuilt at a lab. This rebuilding could take days. Hawksmoor
  11. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Since Robotman has two distinct appearances, one clunky vulnerable and the other slick and armored, I was at a loss as to what Storn was going to do to depict animation in the drawing. Going half and half is really the only way to show it since I am not paying Storn for a slew of conception pics showing his evolution from one state to the other. In reality, the character never looks like this. Sorry to disappoint he is either armored or not. And the unarmored state is commonly dressed in shorts and Hawaiian shirts. Hawksmoor
  12. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Oh Sweet! Robotman is the classic Brain in a Bottle Superhero. His unarmored form is very crude to facilitate repairs and upgrades but with the activation of his battlesheath he becomes invulnerable and superstrong. In his prior life Robotman was an up and coming stuntman turned actor who suffered a serious accident and was rebuilt by the GGUs top villianous scientist: Lord Doom! Hawksmoor
  13. Re: New Global Guardians PBEM Campaign Looking For Players Which is why the GGU is so robust. The site includes a list of NPCs that mentions if they are hunters. Not all of the website is finished. A number of villians are down until they can be .php coded but Black Shark Cabal, Tarot, Evil Mensa, Prime 8, the Fatal Five. These are all hunters that can be used for the creation of heroes. One other point is that you write a text background according to the site rules. You do not normally send in a character sheet first. Personality before Points! You can always ask the GM or the Questions list about a particular build if you are curious or to find an appropriate hunted for a character. 14. Re: Screw the rogue...again. 10 skill levels + INT does not make Rogues shabby. My rules do allow for more branching out for all character classes and allow the CFW classes to at least branch out. I run a skills heavy game, sure we have lots of combat but in the FR game I ran we had loads and loads of noncombat stuff, and the paracombat scenes (running for hours, jumping cliffs, or what the Monk did like say climbing a flying dragon and Black Mambaing its brain.*) Rogues have just as many options of increasing Skills using XP as everyone else and they start higher than any other class. Let us also not forget about the special class abilities and feats they gain. Rogue's rock! Bards on the other hand...require a special type of player to pull off. Jacks of all Trades require careful nurture. *scene in Kill Bill vol2 where the Bride (Mamba) is buried alive and pounds her way out of a coffin. Like this only using one hand to shatter scale, muscle, bone and brain repeatedly on a flying red dragon's head while avoiding claws and sucking up magic missle hits. As to skills being more like HERO, sure. If you want to say lots of skills makes HERO. I disagree since most HERO characters seem to have 30 CP or less in skills. What HERO has is an enormous skill catalog. Finally, I detest and abhor 90% of the Prestige classes I have seen. Including those in the Class books like Sword and Fist. I read and analyze the class with a fine tooth comb before determining if the Prestige Class actually works. Home grown Prestige Classes in my experience are an attempt to powergame by creating a class with Kewl powerz customized just for your PC. Hawksmoor
  15. Re: Are there 10 possibilities for Binary Man? Don't get me wrong, duplication is no more abusive than say Invisibility or Damage Reduction. It is just that screen time, as depicted by Speed and Duplication, is the most important asset in a game. Duplication allows double (or more) chances to do something. That is a hefty advantage. Thus Steve and the other HERO pantheon decided that Duplication alone among all other 'Summon-like' constructs would cost according to a wonky construct with the duplicate essentially paying part of its own cost. My feeling is though since I allow Players to control their ancillary characters (I have enough to deal with thank you very much!) The cost of duplication is too high in my game. Hawksmoor
  16. Re: Are there 10 possibilities for Binary Man? The same reason wolfpack tactics work against Mechanon. More bodies, more options to attack. Multiform does not have this inherent advantage. OTOH, I usually allow Players to control their sidekicks and followers so I do think the power is inherently overpriced for my game. I'd charge only for the points of the follower -MINUS- the cost of duplication. But that is just me. Hawksmoor
  17. Re: Belief in magic by normals. Lex Luthor Syndrome anyone? Hawksmoor
  18. Re: Belief in magic by normals. Congrats. The two of you have neatly described the metaphysical disparity of the Technocracy and the Traditions. Science is the crossbow or a gun. Magick is the longbow or worse an armored knight. One is easy and universally applicable, the other arduous and personal. Hawksmoor
  19. Re: How to get them off d20 To each his own. For me chucking the system was uping the Skill allotments for Wizards, Clerics and Fighters to 4 +INT, granting 15 free "universal" skill points at creation, and allowing skill points to be purchased with xp. starting at 300 XP and increasing by the XP-multiple for each level after that. Thus 20th level extra skill points cost more than 5th level extra skill points. HERO is just too generic for my tastes in fantasy. I have system favorites for each genre and HERO is not the game I would choose to portray Duke Tyrus the Lord of Reptar's Hold (17th level Half Orc 7th level Fighter/5 Barbarian/6 Ranger/ 1 Divine Champion (Meiliki). 20. Re: Driving through barriers Ah there we go. Years of HERO Shorthand. I do use DEF+Body compared to KB (or Movement) to determine if the object would stop the projectile. You are correct on the way the rules work. Carry on TRL. Hawksmoor
  21. Re: Driving through barriers All of that is nice, but if the genre simulation you are aiming for is the opposite: Superman is struck for 33" of KB by Zod's mute minion and sails through three buildings until he comes to rest, then the existing rules work just fine. This is how, IMO, the Champions/HERO rules were devised. To emulate really cool superfights! Hawksmoor
  22. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Since Worldmaker got banned (again) I'll just post a bit about Tyros the Conqueror. Tyros is a super mage on a cosmic level. 20d6 Energy Blasts, 50" of Flight, 30/30 fully resistant hardened Defenses with 75% Damage Reduction and a MASSIVE Cosmic VPP. Ms. V'hann on steroids if you will. Yet, for all that I at least was at a loss of what to do with Tyros. Phenomenal power, legions of troops, yadda-yadda-yadda. The Storn illustration gives me an in with the character. I just couldn' t picture how to deal with him. Now I know. Tyros is an urbane menace. A figure that could provide utopia if you only capitulate to his reign. There is the unfaltering arrogance, and the sense of might makes right, but there is nobility and grace to Tyros. He represents to me now a kind of antagonist that the heroes must reach deep down to face. Not on the battlefield but into their convictions: do they really want to stop Tyros given the outcomes he promises? I was pleased to commission Tyros for Jack, because of the fun his world allows me to have. I have only been with the GGU for a year now. In fact I think that July is the anniversary of the Damocles Directive going up on the Website. Regardless of the time involved I am having too much fun for one person. Hawksmoor
  23. Re: Superhero Football Like I said. Powers she *had*. Hawksmoor -BTW I think it was EGO Blast, Telepathy, and Mental Invisibility.
