  1. If you really want to model the details of trained professional boxers an argument could be made that they all have a Limited version of Damage Reduction or Negation that is built with some version of Costs End. I would probably try to make that LTE as well. Definitely a pretty deep 'rabbit hole' to go down no matter what way you do it.

  2. Since it has been a while since I have seen a thread dedicated to the topic of Magic System Design crop up, yet the subject continues to be broached frequently in other threads. So I think its time we got it all out of our system in a proper forum.

When it comes to Magic System Design, there are few (if any) wrong answers. I am sure we all have strong opinions on the subject, but lets try to be civil.

What kinds of Magic Systems have you used in past campaigns?

How do you think a Magic System should work?

What Game Elements do you think should be used to represent it?

How do you think Magic should be presented?

I think that this area of group effort(more on this later) has the small but stll real chance of being a tipping point if investors ever decided to try and market HERO as a viable alternative to D&D.

  3. @GCMorris, I hope you aren't dissuaded by the length of this thread and got the answer you were looking for. The posters here like a good subject and yours seems to have sparked a lot of conversation. :)

    Yes.

I would have loved to have been an earlier participant to this thread but it had the unlucky fortune (for me) t coincide with my issues of re-learning my right hand dexterity on an iPhone 6 no less!

I was a fun read and I think all the bases got covered.

  4. Hi Everyone.

I recomend taking a closer look at the Stunning add-on option to Change Environment introduced in one of the APG (6e) books i think.

The basic idea is that it forces the target to make a Con roll or be Stunned. However, no damage is actually rolled. The ability has its own unique set of rules for both negatively adjusting the Con roll and the actual duration of the effect. I think it is the perfect mechanic for simulating TASER-like effects which is basically what an electrical attack really is. If someone looks hard enough they should be able to find a power writup by me somewhere that might include a quote of the full power description. Since it doesn't even cause damage it actually solves a lot if the issues of 'combining' with the more traditional effects of damage from whatever weapon it is *attached* to. I would use the Combined Power feature to construct the final build. Since the ability already has its own duration options *baked-in*, assigning Recoverable Charges (example: winding a crank) should be very easy as well.

I would normally either link to one my prievious builds or just create a new one but right now i can't at the moment because don't have access to my laptop with Hero Designer right now and i am posting this using my iPhone combined with a Bluetooth keyboard. I am also a little 'high' from taking an Oxycoton recently.

  5. It's almost fast enough these days to be done outpatient. In a Drivethru... :-D

Here are some pics of the POD softcovers that just arrived! The quality is superb, well put together, nice paper, crisp print. I think this is a superb option for publishers looking to keep a catalog available forever!

For some reason I can't follow that link from my iPhone?!

I will look at it later from the hospital patients PC when I get a chance. I am curios to see if I overspent on original print runs of 6e stuff.

  6. I had to make a side-trek to the hospital for some heart surgery, but my books should be waiting for me when I get home tomorrow.

Oh man! I'm glad you're better. This has been a weird week for a lot of folks and health issues lately.

  7. Thanks for the kind words of encouragement everyone. Today is the first chance I have had to be in front of a full size keyboard in over a week and it feels good!

I had a reoccurance of Melanoma cancer... this time in my brain. Probably a lucky break since the symptoms presented like a stroke. They've cut out the big/easy piece and have just done a hires/3d MRI of my brain stem so they can target with radiation next week. The next big hurdle is the results a PET scan of eveything else in a couple of weeks.

I am much better than just few days ago. The fine motor dexterity and strength of my right hand is the biggest issue right now. Typing this was good exercise.

I know I am not a frequent contributor to this part of the forum but you guys always put a smile on my face.

    ....

Be sure to have yourselves checked for skin cancer!!!

  8. I think marathon running might best be modeled in HERO as a mix of Skill and maybe a minor Naked Reduced END Advantage vs. Long Term END as a counter point to the more combat oriented 'sprinter'.  It's all about running as fast as a character can without losing too much LTE.

  9. What additional skills would John Wick have as a result of being a former member of the Navy SEALs?

(I don't believe he is missing very much 'relevant stuff' from the SEAL package on page 54 of Dark Champions 5e).

This is implied by the Payday 2 Wikipedia page which was approved by Lionsgate (the movie studio).

Around the same time, Chains is on vacation in Sweden when he is ambushed by Interpol agents. He is able to escape thanks to a tip off from John Wick (Dave Fouquette), an old friend from his time in the Navy SEALS. Having recently come out of retirement to enact revenge on New York's Russian mob, Wick tells Chains that he is looking for a crew, to which he responds by inviting him to the gang. After rescuing Vlad's brother-in-law from a plane crash in the woods, the crew descend upon the McKendrick museum in order to steal 'the diamond', a valuable gemstone that the Dentist is interested in. Hoxton's former partner-in-crime, the Irish burglar Clover (Aoife Duffin) is recruited to help, becoming the first female member of the gang.

  10. The problem with Mind Scan in a Multipower is that after locating a target you will want to use one of tho other powers - and when you switch to that power you lose the "lock on" because the Mind Scan only works while you have the points in it.

    Lucius Alexander

THe palindromedary buys Mind Scan and Telepathy, only to locate an insurance agent and get a quote. Now that's Progressive!

I'm guessing that you missed that the Multipower has a 100 point Reserve where every slot is built at only 50 Active points.

67 Multipower, 100-point reserve, (100 Active Points); all slots Limited Power Affected by Adjustments as an EC (-1/4), Limited Power Not in the presence of Flame (-1/4)

3u   9)   Mind Scan 3d6 (Human class of minds), +5 ECV, Reduced Endurance (1/2 END; +1/4), Cumulative (36 points; +3/4) (50 Active Points); Limited Power Affected by Adjustments as an EC (-1/4), Limited Power Not in the presence of Flame (-1/4)

He actually can use Mind Scan and another Mental Power in his Multipower simultaneously.

    :)

  11. You raise a good question.  I'll have to take a closer look at the 6e rules in this area.

I created the following Multipower slot for The Martian Manhunter using 5e years ago:

3u   9)   Mind Scan 3d6 (Human class of minds), +5 ECV, Reduced Endurance (1/2 END; +1/4), Cumulative (36 points; +3/4) (50 Active Points); Limited Power Affected by Adjustments as an EC (-1/4), Limited Power Not in the presence of Flame (-1/4)

    :)
