  2. Re: Hard Science....easy descriptions. I never like the predominance of bumpy headed alien humanoids throughout the universe. I think aliens should be something you want to instinctively shoot first, determine if was harmless or intelligent later. I use deep sea creatures for my inspiration but the problem is how do you roleplay a floating jellyfish-like alien which communicates with smell by emitting differed mixtures of methane gas. While, a know a few players who would fine it amusing to play such an alien for a time, but after awhile, playing such a creature would grow stale. Moreover, using such a creature as a major villain ...well lets face it, their soliloquies would just stink ("THE HELL WITH THE UNIVERSAL TRANSLATOR ... JUST SHOOT IT BEFORE I PUKE!!!") They are good for adding background color to a campaign but generally players what to play and interact with something more humanoid. So, in my crunchy, Star Hero campaign I have been working on and off over the years, I surmised that in the coming "Genetic Age", there is a group called "Splicers" who are similar to "Hackers" during the Information Age. Instead of computer shenanigans, Slicers cook-up monsters in their basements or even create catgirl boy toys. I am sure this use of genetic technology would be highly illegal, everywhere, but if the technology exists, there are going to be those who are going to abuse it, some for financial gain and some because they can. In my campaign, Caninoids are not a race of evolved dogs, but are animalized humans known as Werewolves, sporting a gangbanger pack mentality and a predisposition toward piracy and in pillaging small colonies. Armed with a little imagination and a good rational, even rubbery bits of sci fi can be hardened.
  3. Re: Make them Pay! Characters should also pay points for food as well or starve ... it's just Life Support after all, 1 character point per week should about right. Life Support (Eating: Character only has to eat once per week); 1 Charge which Never Recovers (-4)
  4. Re: Billy Deighton I was thinking about something like this: 15 Multipower, 45-point reserve, (45 Active Points); all slots Concentration, Must Concentrate throughout use of Constant Power (0 DCV; Character is totally unaware of nearby events; -1 1/2), Requires An EGO Roll (No Active Point penalty to Skill Roll; -1/4), Restrainable (Only by means other than Grabs and Entangles; “Yet to be reveled†; -1/4) 1u 1) Look Into Past: Retrocognitive Clairsentience (Sight Group And Normal Hearing) (45 Active Points); Concentration, Must Concentrate throughout use of Constant Power (0 DCV; Character is totally unaware of nearby events; -1 1/2), Blackout (-1/2), Time Modifiers (-1/2), Requires An EGO Roll (No Active Point penalty to Skill Roll; -1/4), Restrainable (Only by means other than Grabs and Entangles; “Yet to be reveled†; -1/4) 1u 2) Look To The Future: Precognitive Clairsentience (Sight Group And Normal Hearing) (45 Active Points); Concentration, Must Concentrate throughout use of Constant Power (0 DCV; Character is totally unaware of nearby events; -1 1/2), Blackout (-1/2), Time Modifiers (-1/2), Requires An EGO Roll (No Active Point penalty to Skill Roll; -1/4), Restrainable (Only by means other than Grabs and Entangles; “Yet to be reveled†; -1/4) 1u 3) Echoes From The Past : Retrocognitive Clairsentience (Sight Group And Normal Hearing) (45 Active Points); No Conscious Control (-2), Concentration, Must Concentrate throughout use of Constant Power (0 DCV; Character is totally unaware of nearby events; -1 1/2), Blackout (-1/2), Requires An EGO Roll (No Active Point penalty to Skill Roll; -1/4), Restrainable (Only by means other than Grabs and Entangles; “Yet to be reveled†; -1/4) 1u 4) Echoes From The Future : Precognitive Clairsentience (Sight Group And Normal Hearing) (45 Active Points); No Conscious Control (-2), Concentration, Must Concentrate throughout use of Constant Power (0 DCV; Character is totally unaware of nearby events; -1 1/2), Blackout (-1/2), Requires An EGO Roll (No Active Point penalty to Skill Roll; -1/4), Restrainable (Only by means other than Grabs and Entangles; “Yet to be reveled†; -1/4)
  5. Re: Billy Deighton "Billy, what did you do with Sara-Ann," exclaimed Jack. "I let her go," replied Billy You get a cookie!
  6. Re: Billy Deighton What I meant was that the qualities Henrietta has in common with Gaius is 1 cup intelligence, a 1 cup of wisdom and a dash of foreknowledge, blended 10 min. on ruthless.
  7. Re: Billy Deighton I will save you for ... last ... then?
  8. Re: Billy Deighton What was really funny ... She was so worried about the note, she forgot that Jack was a "... Psychic Detective ..." (think Johnny from the Dead Zone but doesn't have to touch things). The stunned the look, on the Countess's face, when Jack rolled up on her doorstep with squad of rocketmen was priceless.
  9. In the case of a Power that Requires a Luck RSR, are Luck rolls subject to Active Point penalties seeing that they are a non-standard Skill Roll?
  10. Re: Billy Deighton Close, more like a girlish Gaius Octavian (HBO's Rome)
  11. Re: Billy Deighton The basic character design concept is 150 point characters with around 50 extra points that can be used to buy weird powers or devices as long as they have a pulp feel to them. I always stress character concept before players start spending any of their character points.
  12. Re: Billy Deighton Very good! PS: Karl Von Schreck sits in a salon chair in the lobby of the Vancouver Hotel reading the Sun. He blurts out unexpectedly to no one in particular " These colonists ... how dare they ... they kept misspelling my name in their local tabloid ... huff ... I think I am going to make this Dolton pay in the ring for this insult!"
  13. Re: Blowing up the Earth The Q-36 is a little out of date, I would use the Q-37 Express for that job.
  14. Re: Points or $ No Equipment VVP A Backpack is worth 5 SP (1 Character Point) FH Page 146
  15. Re: Points or $ Why don't you just consider $ to be fractional Exp. Say 4-5 SP equals about One Character Point (figuring in the Independent Limitation weapons and stuff). Just cut way back on the number of experience points you reward each session, say something like 0-1 Pts per session. I allow the players vote on if someone should get a one bonus xp for great roleplaying or coming up with a great idea, etc. Otherwise, the bulk on ones experience comes in the form of money and the value of any acquired gear.
  16. Re: Valdorian Age You finally remove the wine stains from Lord Turgan's velvet doublet using the magic stain removing soap you got from the witch from the North Wood. While the doublet was drying on the clothesline, Kobold's steal the doublet and sneak it back to their lair. What do you do now?

  18. Re: Looking for A.I. Scenarios The AI, being a student of human nature, has concluded that human rebellion is the eventually conclusion to it's regime and the outcome is uncertain. The best way to control this event is to start the revolt itself. Using intermediaries, the AI recruits a group of freedom fighters (the players) to lead this revolution, feeding them objectives/situations that give a sense of accomplishment but do no real damage to the AI's regime. The players may figure this out eventually or just remain a pawns of the machine.
  19. Re: Breeding true... As a purely in intellectual exercise, I would build the power so: Cost** Power END 20** Super Propagation: Minor Transform 8d6 (Impregnates a non-pregnate target with superhuman offspring), No Normal Defense ([Extraordinarily Common Defense]; Any pppropriate clothing/covering; +1/2) (120 Active Points); Extra Time (5 Minutes, Minimal base-time; -2), Limited Target ([Very Limited]; Female humans; -1), No Conscious Control (Only Effects cannot be controlled; Offspring's powers/abilities vary; -1), All Or Nothing (Impregnation is uncertain; -1/2), No Range (Requires physical contact; -1/2)* 12 Powers Cost: 20 Upping/lowering the number of dice increases/decreases a character's virility.
  20. Re: Post your Cybernetics! In a heroic game (using Hit Locations/Optional Effects of Damage rules), having a cyberlimb is an advantage even without any special enchantments such as strength. For instance, a character takes a 24 BODY hit to their cyberarm from a disintegrater cannon. Normally, such a grievous wound would take off the arm and the character would bleed to death if left untreated, but no, the character has a cyberarm, applying the "Special Effects" of the Optional Damage Rules seems wrong in this case. How can the destruction of a character's artificial limb reasonably (by the Special Effects) do damage to the rest of the character or even result in characters death (by optional rules)? To me, the Special Effects of a cybernetic limb should take separate damage from that of the character but under the normal rules they don't. When the situation comes up, the GM will have to either rationalize why a character dies from having his cyberarm blown-off (very weak) or house rule it "that the damage to cyberlimbs is immune to Optional Damage Effects of damage." Moreover, a character with a cyberlimb, would have other advantages such as immunity to contact poisons and the like. In a heroic level game, a character with a cyberlimb, has a greater advantage to those characters who don't. In a Star Hero game using cybernetics, a cybernetic arm or leg seem somewhat cheap when looking at the Special Effects of taking damage to cyberlimb locations. The costs of these devices only seem to reflect the advantages of their Characteristic enhancements but not the any of the other Special Effects of having automaton limbs would involve. It seems to me, when players get wind of the cost/advantage ratio of having cyberlimbs, everyone will be buying them.
  21. Re: Post your Cybernetics! My thinking on cybernetic limbs is to allow a player to build parts of his body as an Automaton. Create a new power for non-automaton characters called something like "Automaton Limbs" and has a base cost of 10 Character Points. Automaton Limbs: 10 Pts. 2x Limbs:+5 Pts. CANNOT BE STUNNED: +5 Pts. DOES NOT BLEED: +5 Pts. TAKES NO STUN (but loses abilities): +5 Pts. TAKES NO STUN (BODY only): +10 Pts.
  22. Re: Help with Cuthulu Hero I my experience, most CoC players tend to be more role players than hack & slash. Hack & slash players seem to dislike the game (sanity loss & invulnerability to bullets) and won't play. The last time I got to play, none of the players stocked up on guns or explosives because we all felt that it was "out of character" for a bunch of college students to do so for just going on a road trip. We had lots of beer though. .
  23. Re: Help with Cuthulu Hero I would go with an open ended Mental Transform. Each time the Transform reaches EGOx2, the character receives a new or more severe level of mental disorder.
