  1. Re: Thread necromancy! Actually, I've been there. Now, the results of how the campaign goes will really depend a lot on the GM, but my experience: it sucked big hairy donkey balls. The game was "in the future" when Genocide had been victorious against the mutants with nuclear war, etc. etc. We spent the campaign living in this vast underground secret network where it was just the PCs and one NPC "instructor." The GM wouldn't let us know our stats unless we figured them out exactly. Naturally, his wife learned her powers relatively quickly (though he claimed he was fair, this always happened with her), my roommate at least had wings sprout from his hunchback. My character was apparently a brick, but since the weightroom didn't have weights over 600 lbs, I wasn't allowed to test my full strength and never allowed to write anything down. He stopped after about 15-20 sessions because he ran out of ideas (and believe it or not, we only left the complex once). Hopefully, you'll have a better time.

  7. Re: Help with Mental Power Heh, I remember back in high school when I ran D&D (and it sucked because none of my friends knew how) and one of my friends was creating a mage and rolled a 15 for his strength. I told him he couldn't be a mage because he was too strong. He showed me in the book where it said that 3 or lower could "only be a mage" but there was no maximum. Boy, was I miffed at him and we argued about it for a while, but I relented. (Turns out, I was miffed 'cause he was right and I was wrong. Same thing happened when D&D 2E came out. He said it was mostly the same, only better. I wouldn't let him use the 2E book to create characters for two months. And only then because I had bought the book and said "Hey, this rocks!") Anyway, back to our thread.

  11. Re: Working on New Constantinople FYI: I'm going to unsubscribe since (1) it seems the posts now are GM only (not saying that's a bad thing) with the majority of fleshing out for the PCs having been handled, and (2) you've placed the PC stuff on your own Campaign Messages area. As a side, kudos for Lord Liaden for finally putting his GM Spoilers notice up. No more reading thread notification e-mails and then going "Ya know, I bet this is GM stuff." Keep up the good work guys! Hermit's not finished beating us down, yet.
  12. Re: Difficulty reaching Super-Hero status There also come times when I run out of ideas on "what to do next" and so I just roll everyone's Hunted. If the roll "succeeds" then the Hunted makes an appearance. And once I'm comfortable with the campaign and everyone's had some exposure, I roll for Hunteds that may sometimes pop up during other adventures. "There was this one time in band camp" where I was running a San Fran game and everyone took VIPER as a Hunted (six players) and all the rolls said VIPER was showing. So, I decided to have the entire nest attack. Though the reasoning behind it was that the nest leader, the Darklord, wanted to rid San Fran of the Protectors. "It just so happened" that the PCs had plans to go to the Protectors to talk and smooth a misunderstanding out (also two PCs were niece/uncle and related to the Huntsman, during this meeting it was discovered by the three characters, which was role-played well). When the half-vampire-like PC aggrivated Helios and fists were about to fly, VIPER attacked. Of course, YMMV.
  13. Re: Ravenswood Academy Yearbook Job well done. Though I must say I must control myself when looking at sophomore Lyndsay Giraldi. Must...control...self.... Time...to change...page.... On a side, if there is to be another Teen Champions book, there needs to be serious proofreading done on it. TC's proofreading could be considered atrocious.
  14. Re: Who are the greatest (?) super villains? Who was the villain that wore a green suit, a purple cape and had a glass sphere over where his non-existant head was? Was his name Mystero (or something similar)? And would someone refresh me on his powers?
  15. Re: Introducing Scott Free Press! Hmm, with 18/21 posts soley to saying "Look at my site" and those other 3 posts are single posts to other threads (which feels like superficial token responses), I think it's time to unsubscribe to this thread. I hope it goes better, but SFP is not for me.
  16. Re: Difficulty reaching Super-Hero status First, I apologize for taking so long, but here it goes: They had range finders and compasses back then, ya know. They even had analog computers! All the powered-armor NPCs do this. It's the "in thing." But the reasoning is probably because STR, CON, and BODY are figured into PD/ED, REC and STUN. A stronger machine shouldn't help the person inside Recover quicker and shouldn't add to the person's defenses (this is what the ARMOR is for). And for DEX, that figures in for SPD, and should someone take the suit or the PC gain DEX, then you've got some wasted points as you try to rebalance. (This may not be the most coherent explanation, but it sounds much better in my head.) You're welcome.

  19. Re: Help with Mental Power I don't know what your mentalist's powers/sfx are, but giving her some straight up DCV levels would be appropriate, as would Combat Luck (you can't *see* Combat Luck). Also, a little Damage Reduction goes a long way. If they use tactics and teamwork to reduce said Mentalist's DCV, then buy Defense Maneuver III or IV. Give your mentalist Range Perception modifiers/telescopic vision so she can see from far away. Give her teleportation (20" or more, position shift) so that she can half-move and fire. Position the mentalist in a crowd of people and have her open up on the PCs. This way, the crowd won't see it nor react to it and the PCs won't use AoE attacks (and the mentalist doesn't have to wear a costume). Position the mentalist in a crowd of people and haver her Mind Control the normals to attack the PCs. Have her Mind Control six normals to surround her and "protect" her. Instead of just Illusions, why not Images? You can buy modifiers for PER rolls with Images. Having stated all these, it would help us help you if you told us the tactics the PCs use against mentalists. Do they just target the mentalist first? Do they use AoE, spread their dice, teamwork, or what? Also, why do they keep targetting the mentalist first? Is this the big threat you keep concentrating on? Is it just fear of being Mind Controlled? (If so, stop creating mentalists with that power for a while.) I'd say, for this Mentalist's debut, team her up with people with range powers. Snipers or some such. Spread the team out, so that if the mentalist is being teamed up on, someone on the NPC team has a shot at their back (1/2 DCV!). Rainbow Archer from 4E would be an excellent choice. From CKC, Anklyosaur (might be a good bodyguard for the mentalist), Lazer, Mechassassin, and Ogre ("Ogre, protect me from the bullies."). Some other options: Use GRAB, their mentalist has shrinking (-10 for PER rolls) and the rest of them are fast. Use Eurostar. Let them go after the Mentalla while Durak goes after the civilians. Is that a bus full of tourists? Durak will throw them away! If they trash Eurostar starting with Mentalla, have Menton come in. He's got 35/PD 40/ED and 9 SPD. He could teach them a lesson for concentrating on his sister (he could care less about the rest of Eurostar). Finally, if they love to target mentalists, then give them mentalists: PSI. I hope these help and that you've obtained some good ideas from the others.
  20. Re: On Multiform and Potential Abuses Thereof....
  21. Re: Difficulty reaching Super-Hero status Not true. Cavalier, Defender, Hazard, and Lazar aren't considered bricks. It's all in the write up. I think that most of our thoughts lend toward brick (Anklyosaur, Armadillo, Juggernaut, etc.).
  22. Re: Difficulty reaching Super-Hero status I just glanced over it, but here are a few things I spotted: Characteristics: Intelligence feels too low. While (according to HERO) a genius could have a 5 INT or a 30 INT, to operate a battlesuit, I'd think a higher INT would be justified (better perception/reaction times). Additional PRE w/a -1 Lim "only for attacks" wouldn't be inappropriate. Nothing wrong with adding some looks (Com) to Diesel. Put normal Speed to 4 with the Battlesuit increasing it to 5 (or just keep it at 4 in both forms). STUN! Your normal stun could be higher (more later). Skills: Combat Skill levels, and others. More Army related skills (especially Weapon Familiarity). Give the character a hobby, then put in skills to compliment it. A KS regarding the time would be appropriate. A modern character could have KS: Superhumans while a WW2 might have KS: German Army/Japanese Army (note: I did Army, not military). Perhaps System Operations as well. Perks: I'd increase the Pentagon contact to "Organization." It's only 6 more points, and could prove more useful. Talents: Perhaps Absolute Range and/or Time sense as part of the battlesuit, maybe Bump of Direction, too. Maybe Eidetic Memory (camera) could be a part of the suit. Martial Arts: Not bad, but I'd clarify if the suit can use the MA or not. If not, maybe put a Phys Lim in Disad section. Powers: I'm just glazing over these, but STR, DEX, and CON really should have the "No Figured Characteristics" as a part of them. Since this seems very WW2 theme, A flamethrower would be appropriate (AoE,line, reduced range), as would a machine gun (maybe two: one RKA, one EB "Rubber bullets, honest"). A bazooka as well. Disadvantages: I think the Phys Lim you have would be better listed as a Distinctive Feature. Well, that's all for now. Looks good, though. Would you tell us more about the campaign and what the GM is looking for? That might help us flesh out this beast.
  23. Re: On Multiform and Potential Abuses Thereof.... Vehicle points are to be paid for by the base form. I think Steve Long answered this in the FAQ in regards to Duplication. (Basically, "No" duplicates cannot pay points for the same vehcile/base, dividing the cost.) If he has a multiform that has a vehicle, then that vehicle is only available when that form is used. Now, if I understood your post correctly, he has a few mutiforms and each one takes up a slot in his MP? I think he's actually wasting some points that way, considering it would be easier to purchase the multiplier at 5 points (next to nothing in a MP slot). Though, if he has one slot which is dedicated only to multiform, that makes sense. Personally, I would not allow the MF into the MP, simply because it feels cheesy and munchkin-like (as is the case with the form that has the vehicle, if he's expecting his other forms to be able to have access to it). And if the character already has a VPP as well, there's potential for abuse also (monitor it closely!). Now, one thing I'm not clear on, did he choose a multiform as a vehicle? If that's the case, then that's saying he becomes the vehicle. (Which feels really cheesy, but I say that not knowing the genre/mood you're going for, so it may fit.) Now, if he has a multiform as a vehicle and wants to use that vehicle, then nix it. That's not allowed and he's already abusing the rules. (Depending on how long he's played, he may be doing that on purpose or out of ignorance.) If you're good at creating characters and he's new, then my suggestion is to ask him what he's looking for and create the character for him.
