  1. Re: Your PC's might be underpowered if... ...your GM starts angrily lobbying Steve Long to include a "how to munchkin" section in the next edition of HERO...
  2. Re: [WHAT IF?] Frank Castle was the Spirit of Vengence I'm about to rain on the parade, for which I apologize (as I think the concepts are tres neat...) Ok, so Lisa Castle had a pure soul. ...so why did she end up in hell?
  3. Re: Professional Rockband HERO team? I think you need a "contact guy", the one who knows the right person to call to book venues, get the media, whatever. You probably also want: KS: Fashion PS: Dance (or some kind of dancing skill) KS: Accounting (keeping track of the income and outflows is pretty important) PS: Public Relations
  4. Re: Shapeshift I'd like to add a further option: That the "transformation" is merely a special effect. For characters where the transformation is quick, easy, and essentially unstoppable, it seems like the character isn't truly suffering a disadvantage, or at least, not one that justifies the very large cost break OIHID provides (over the course of an entire character). A good example of that would be "Anvil", from Champions Worldwide: he changes to and from his armored form, but since the change is quick, he doesn't get an OIHID discount. A comparable example from comics where I would not allow OIHID is the current She-Hulk: she goes back and forth at will and the transformation is quick, so even though she currently does maintain something of a Secret ID, I wouldn't allow the cost break. It goes back to "if the limitation doesn't limit the character, the limitation isn't worth a discount" axiom.
  5. Re: WWYCD? The Trap Uh oh, it's the Harbinger of Justice's Secret ID!
  6. Re: WWYCD? The Trap Blackberry S. Firr would have a simple question for the Obsessed Avenger: "What happens if somebody happens to fly overhead? Will they get killed like that poor birdy?"
  7. Re: WWYCD? The Trap ...Anthem can take repeated 10d6 RKAs?
  8. Re: Double-Checking Assistance: X-Factor #87 Steve might just be looking for Samson's response to Polaris' new outfit...
  9. Re: Need Villain Team Name One question that comes to mind is why they bear emnities towards the hero team. That being said, since I don't know the backstories: "Emnity" works just fine.
  10. Re: Custom Mechanon Lazy man's solution: You have 300 pt. characters? Use the 4th ed. Mechanon writeup.
  11. Re: Best supporting non-super character in comics? Alfred, by far.
  12. Re: The Marvel Magnificent Seven (Avengers) You mean "Jarvis"?
  13. Re: The Marvel Magnificent Seven (Avengers) Thor? Hercules? *Puts on asbestos suit* Firelord is on par with them, and Spidey beat Firelord, so they should make way for the Friendly Neighborhood Spider...
  14. Re: Did anyone ever write-up the DC Impact comic characters? I have no idea what caliber it was, but I believe it was from a standard police sidearm.
  15. Re: Best Martial Artist: Champions Universe See how effective they are in 5th? Not only do they leave no survivors, but nobody's ever heard of them!
  16. Re: Best Martial Artist: Champions Universe Criteria? Does anybody with a Martial Arts package count? Are they allowed to "cheat" with things like Superhuman Attributes or gadgets?
  17. Re: "Your Most Embaressing Game Mastering Moment" I was in high school, and GMing RIFTs... (yeah, this is going to be a doozy) So it was roughly sometime between 2 and 4 in the morning. During a space battle, a giant mecha-style robot got blown up. One of its arms, about the size of a suit of power armor, was hurled by the force of the explosion direcly towards the player characters. As an interlude, let me point out that by stats, the arm had a stupid amount of MDC (damage capacity, or BODY in Hero terms--Rifts doesn't have PD-style reduction of damage). So the players start firing everything they've got at it, so as not to be hit by a disembodied arm going well over Mach-2. So I roll damage, not really enough to vaporize the arm (the PCs had used up most of their heavy ordinance blowing up the robot in the first place, so they were using "small" arms fire). The arm keeps coming. So they fire some missiles at the thing. I roll damage, still not enough, arm keeps coming. Eventually, the arm slams into the majority of the PCs, scattering them like bowling pins. Session continues. A little while later, someone points out to me that missiles are, y'know, explosive and should have at the very least knocked the arm off course.
  18. Re: DC's Best "Bricks" Kalibak, who I think was voiced by Michael Dorn in JLU.
  19. Re: DC's Best Martial Artist *Takes a look at the links* "Tssa"? "Chuuh"? ...it's like watching the 60s comics again. I can't wait for a panel to have Batman hitting someone, with the narration "Bort!"
  20. Re: DC's Best "Bricks" In terms of being "Brick-y", I like Power Girl--for most of her convoluted history, she's been a flying brick. The rest of her comrades in DCs "high power" area are for the most part Brick/Blasters or Brick/Speedsters.
  21. Re: Why are 2nd powers cheaper?
  22. Re: What would Dr. Destroyer *really* do? Based on his 5th ed profile, I think he'd start offering noticeable (to us) technological advances that, to him, are trifling, in exchange for certain legal/economic rights, and access to data. "You get cold fusion, I get a week to study Cateran. Yes, the procedures will be invasive, but she will suffer no permanent harm." --and he'll mean it, no extra strings, no hidden clauses. Destroyer wants his aging problem fixed, and "deals" like the ones above would further legitimize him in the eyes of many while undercutting opposition.
  23. Re: Champs "Star Chamber" To make it more four-color, I think you have to give the PCs a real choice as to whether or not to tolerate this kind of behavior. Fundamentally, I don't think traditional four-color heroes (Spider-Man, Captain America, Superman, for example) would be able to stomach this kind of cloak-and-dagger, no trial system: it's anathema to who they are. Iron Age/Dark Champions: the Star Chamber is the best solution. Four Color: the Star Chamber is a bunch of whackjobs who are every bit as bad as the villains they fight Bronze: it's not that simple--give the heroes a chance to examine, think about, and repeatedly encounter the Chamber. Have successes--and failures--of the Chamber. Make it a contrast. I would, however, hasten to point out that this kind of organization is ideal for someone like Menton to take over...
