  1. Re: WWYCD: Sleeping With The Enemy Blackberry S. Firr would drop off the bag of cookies she was delivering, and leave to consider things. She's open-minded and politically liberal, but personally conservative, so being confronted with evidence that her friend was having sex outside of marriage... well now. She's a pretty discerning judge of character though, so anyone who qualifies as a "close friend" gets the benefit of her faith in their judgment. She's also quite protective, so after grilling her friend to make sure that there was a relationship based on more than merely sex, she'd settle down to important things, like whether the couple liked the cookies she baked. She'd leave it at that unless more disturbing incidents cropped up.
  2. Re: WWYCD: The Binder Blackberry S. Firr doesn't believe such items should be lying around, where they can be misused! She'd call a few of her family and friends with a more magical bent, and have them properly dispose of it--she's never encountered anything that couldn't be dealt with through some planning and cooperation.
  3. Re: WWCYD: One for Many? Blackberry S. Firr would start crying, immediately and unconditionally. She'd then solemnly promise to find a way to set her friend's soul to rest at the earliest opportunity.
  4. Re: WWYCD:Little Girl Lost Blackberry S. Firr just loves children, and is big on family. She'd hate to break up an existing family just to bring the child back to her "real" one. Blackberry'd probably bring the some of the other relatives to the girl, and see how they react to each other. If all went well, the little girl would now have two sets of loving relatives. Blackberry's big on education too, and would probably want, deep down, for the girl to be exposed to outside concepts, but not at the cost of uprooting her from her adopted kin.
  5. Re: Megascale Best Practices and Fun Examples One thing I've been tinkering with is the ability to do "feats of strength" without requiring gargantuan STR. In particular, stuff like "he/she threw the bomb into orbit". So, my basic construct is this: Superleap, Usable as Attack, Megascale, with limitations such as "target must be below X weight", "only on inanimate objects/defeated opponents", Extra Time and/or END, and a few miscellaneous limitations to allow GM intervention. Essentially, the idea is to construct He-Man cartoon or Superman movie strength feats, yet not have them be unbalancing in combat, nor prohibitively expensive in terms of points. The above construct typically rounds out to only a few points in a "brick tricks" MP, for example.
  6. Re: Disadvantages of being Undead Psych (or Phys, depends on how you define it) Lim: "Subject to the orders of necromancers" can be useful for creating roleplaying hooks.
  7. Re: Theme Super Hero Teams You could also turn the Legend of the Five Rings (L5R) analogy on its head. In L5R, each of the five "Rings" represents both an elemental force and a philosophical truth You could have the same team of five, based upon the elements, but make them, say, "five enlightened souls": "Fire" representing a force for change (say someone with a lot of Change Environment and/or Transforms). "Air" representing an understanding of the subtle, instinctive nuances of life (high PRE, good social skills, and powers representing the ability to "read" the intentions, actions, and emotions of others). "Earth" representing persistence, fortitude, and resolve (high EGO and CON, and Life Supports like Reduced need for Sleep and Food). "Water" representing the ability to "flow" around problems, to find or create ways past obstacles (probably the highest Tactics skill of the bunch, maybe a VPP representing the ability to improvise around problems. Also, thematically, the one character most likely to have a disparate set of attacks that, between them, will always affect anybody, even if the attacks do minor damage on a per-hit basis). "Void" representing the unique insights people have during moments of epiphanies, when you don't need to think while you act, because everything is clear (a precog makes sense, but so would someone with a huge number of Overall Skill Levels--Usable by Others). Same 5 elements, but you get a totally different spin on the team, what they do, and why.
  8. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... STAR CONTROL? Oh, that's priceless.
  9. Re: Eurostar is friggin' fast! Based on the commentary here, it sounds like a certain feline stalker will be sighted in Italy, once again...
  10. Re: Superpowers that haven't been thought out... I thought, in a few of the comics at least, the power-suppressor technologies also left the user/victim dull and listless, that it sapped their energy levels. That would explain why the characters don't use power-suppressors in themselves, but the more likely response is "well nobody thought too carefully about it".
  11. Re: Eurostar is friggin' fast! Between the 33-or-so-Dex, 8 Spd, HKA, and Find Weakness, Pantera would shred most characters in a straight up one-on-one. Fortunately, you could always fall back to team tactics... ...except Eurostar was good at those, too.
  12. Re: Person of Steel, Significant Other of Tissue paper The sex issue is often far less of a problem than the relationship/love issue. LOTS of powers could mess with a prospective partner's comfort zone, depending on personal whims: Telepathy and Mind Control could lead to questioning of the "honesty" or "truth" of the relationship The incredibly high COM most characters (particularly most female characters) possess could cause both the partner to feel insecure (the hero could "have any partner he/she wants") as well as the hero to have doubts (does he/she honestly love me for me, or for my looks?) Growth and Density Increase... yeah, pretty obvious. Heck, Life Support: Hold Breath or Life Support: Does not Breathe would greatly change someone's definition of a "long kiss" So while I certainly agree, certain powers would greatly inhibit sex, but in my campaigns, characters looking for a steady partner have far longer-term issues to grapple with...
  13. Re: Spider Man Clone One "clone" that was Spider-Man themed came from the DC/Marvel collaboration, "Amalgam". Spider-Boy was originally created to be a clone of Super-Soldier (a Captain America/Superman hybrid). Due to an accident that caused him to be born prematurely, the only major superpower he possesses is control over gravity, allowing him to leap, stick to surfaces (by changing which way is "down" for him) and modest superstrength. It was a neat amalgamation of Spider-Man and Superboy.
  14. Re: Teen supers ideas Why make the other organization evil? You could have just as many problems with political parties, or businesses (what would one Brick as a part-time laborer do to say, the construction industry), or for that matter, advertising agencies (what's the COM of that teen-girl again?). It makes the threats a whole lot more renewable if the most they ever get is sleazy--can't even arrest'em for that.
  15. Re: Fighting Game Hero Favorite? Felicia, by far. She's actually pretty easy to fit into a "modern" genre, former celebrity-turned-sister (nun)-running-an-orphanage isn't that outlandish compared to what goes on in Hollywood anyways.
  16. Re: WWYCD: Ascesnsion Blackberry S. Firr would never accept a proposal like that; she cares too much about the people around her to take a hands-off role. If she knew the speaker well, she'd reluctantly also admit that most of the work she does is also quite subtle, of the "point the kid in the right direction and twenty years from now, he'll cure cancer" variety, so the world needs her. Of course, she'd make the offerer promise not to tell anybody, she does what she does because she likes people, not because she wants to be recognized for it.
  17. Re: Batman vs Midnighter So... a luck based character like Longshot would wreck him? There's a limit to the number of outlandish scenarios that Midnighter's combat computer could go through, after all... (I haven't read the Authority, just trying to get a handle on Midnighter)
  18. Re: YOU KNOW THE d20 WELL HAS RUN DRY WHEN... To put it in context, even some of the Wizards-affiliated d20 stuff hasn't done all that great. Alderac Entertainment Group's Legend of the Five Rings universe became the canon 3rd ed Oriental Adventures universe for awhile, but recently, AEG declared that they are discontinuing d20 support for Legend of the Five Rings, and switching back to their proprietary d10-based system. There's a slim handful of d20 universes/products that are getting by, but for the most part, yeah, it's a glutted market.
  19. Re: Girl Fight: The Prelims Have you got a link to the original thread? I missed it the first time around.
  20. Re: Character Work in Progress -- Kriegmädchen Kristopher: Your above response also raises the question of how well does she know her own body? Other footnotes: 1) For android-types and robots, the Phys Lim: "cannot Push Stats and Powers" seems appropriate, particularly for ones where the limits of the hardware reprsent an absolute cap on performance. 2) For most androids, particularly combat models, I envision having all Stats and Powers fed by an END Reserve, or alternatively buying everything down to 0 End, also seems thematically appropriate--they just don't get tired. 3) So she has fully functional sense of Touch, Taste & Smell? The other senses tend to be "givens" in the robot/android/cyborg archetype, and certainly there have been robot-types with the former 3; just checking that this was a conscious decision. 4) I'm personally keen on seeing how you envision Kriegmadchen reacting to the fact that she's got Skills and instincts she never had before--she probably views the world differently given that part of her can't help but do a tactical analysis of everywhere she is--like when she's having dinner.
  21. Re: Character Work in Progress -- Kriegmädchen How much in-depth work have you done on her background and personality. 20 Int is very high for a mind that was/is fundamentally human in nature, how is she reacting to being very different from how she once was? Unless she was a genius to begin with, she is probably seeing the world in a different light now--she's probably more insightful by a very significant margin (higher INT, PRE, etc.) and is also likely to be revisiting her stance on things like religion.
  22. Re: UMA -- Ultimate Wrestler First impression: *whistle* You've done a nice job converting Professional Wrestling maneuvers into HERO terms. I've only taken an initial look, but I've got a brief suggestion for your Submissions section: several of these moves (such as the Crippler Crossface and Liontamer/Sharpshooter) probably need to have limb-binding elements and/or STR for maintaining the hold elements (much as you do under Pins). This wouldn't extend to more general moves like "Chokes", but many of the more elaborate Submissions certainly seem to involve tying down limbs.
