  1. Re: Flight Time From Edge Of System...The Speed Of Plot ? Don't forget: if you want your spacecraft to "disappear" from point X and "reappear" at point Y, you can use Megascaled Teleportation with Extra Time. Though I've never really liked that method, and personally would go with Megacaled Flight. Although FTL with extensive Limits would be cheaper.
  2. Re: Answers & Questions Q: We need to discuss the behavior of Vassily, Ivana, and Pyotr Playoff. A: Just a made-up name.
  3. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat All "reality" shows are the worst things in the world.
  4. Re: Answers & Questions Q: Why are you going down into the basement carrying a pickaxe, a pair of pliers, and a burning torch, O Dread Sovereign Leader? A: A number 7 iron.
  5. Re: Help Me Populate A Creepy Hotel The pizza shop around the corner: Everybody in the hotel starts to rave about this terrific pizza shop that just opened up, right around the corner. Somehow, though, no matter how explicit the directions, the PCs can never find it. Unless one of the PCs is by him/herself, and not looking for it. Then he/she will stumble upon it by accident. And never be able to find it again (unless alone and not looking).
  6. Re: Answers & Questions Q: What meal did Citizen Caine order on his deathbed? A: It happens every other night. That's why it didn't happen tonight. No idea.
  7. Re: Best HERO system product Normals Unbound has already been mentioned, so I'll add the 4th Ed. Dark Champions, C.L.O.W.N., all the Adventurers Club magazines you can find, and both the Hero System Almanacs. 4th ed. Dark Champions covers various subjects regarding law and the justice [sic] system, which 5th ed DC pretty much skipped. I also found the coverage of forensics in An Eye for an Eye much better arranged, and easier to follow, than the same subject in 5th ed. DC

  11. Re: Answers & Questions Q: Which is harder to do in space: fart or breathe? A: Puerile humor.
  12. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Hideous. Or Germ.
  13. Re: BBC Airship Article What is too often forgotten is that at the time of the Hindenburg airships were still "a work in progress." Don't forget, the destruction of the Hindenburg was less than 37 years after the first flight of the LZ 1. When airplanes were that semi-developed, they were just about as subject to crashes and other accidents. Airships are the premier example of short-sighted fascination with the loud and the fast burying a better technology. I certainly hope -- no, pray, that airships make a comeback, thanks to modern materials and technology.
  14. OK, so I'm reading the thread, Japanese Atlantis?, and checking out the Nat. Geog. article. I notice a link to another article and read it. It's great! Well, the real cause of the Mystery Illness turns out to be kind of mundane; I mean, you could've gotten the same thing from a big explosion. But think of the possibilities! This just begs for a Pulp story; change the source of the arsenic, and you're good to go. Or, make it not arsenic, but "a compound unknown to science, with properties heretofore never seen".
  15. Re: Urban Fantasy Recommendations I'd add Flying Dutch, also by Tom Holt, and Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. BTW, the Lord Darcy books are set in the 1960's (the date is given in the narrative of most/all of the stories); it feels, somewhat, like they're set earlier, but that's because magic has replaced technology (as we understand the term) and the result is a somewhat Edwardian to between-the-world-wars feel. I have saved the best for last; IMO the best urban fantasy story ever, and one of my all-time top-of-the-line favorites is The Wizard of the Pigeons by Megan Lindstrom. Good luck finding it, but if you do, grab it immediately.
  16. Re: Answers & Questions Q: What overused phrase did "A significant deviation" beat to take first place in the "Things We're Tired of Hearing" competion? A: Second to nun.
  17. Re: Answers & Questions Q: How does Ben Grimm keep looking so young? A: The hottest peppers we've got, stat!
  18. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Ooops, sorry, didn't notice Tim in there. Um... NT: Something you wouldn't expect to find in a Linux distro (Added difficulty: no mention of USEFUL HELP FILES!!)
