  1. I've been contemplating what sort of setting I'd create for running Fantasy Hero. A long time ago, I thought a MERP to Hero conversion would be cool, but I'm known as a lazy cuss (because I am of course!). Anyway, I was thinking a cool setteing would be Middle Earth a century or so into the Fourth Age. I've glossed over Encyclopedia Arda and the RotK glossary. Anyone have any thoughts to add? At this stage, I'm figuring the Northern Ithillian as a good spot to start a game. A particular sticking point is the magic of Middle Earth. A cohort of mine has been fairly strong in his belief that only the Istari and similar beings are capable of magic at all. I disagreed, citing the ICE MERP books and their uses of magic as well as a quote from the movie, "A Wizard is never late. He always arrives precisely when he meanst to." From that statement, one would tend to think that other Wizards exist in Middle Earth. Anyway, I open the topic to discussion.
  2. Re: Green Lantern Object Creation... Right on, JmOz. We've always suggested TK for this sort of effect in the RCU.
  3. Re: Powers in Heroic Level Games I'm confused... Would not the Resource Points from Dark Champions fix this problem?
  4. Re: Mimm (sci-fantasy game) Cool. So, what is the next step? Have you considered playing the game at HeroCentral? It has Private Chat rooms and a decent Play by Post/Play by Email possibility. Both Boz and I are currently members, but I don't know about yourself or Zornwill.
  5. Re: Mimm (sci-fantasy game) On the Imperial Intrusion... What sort of Imperial Assisstance can Marshal Sav expect? Can he call in more troopers if need be? If he's killed will an Imperial Investigation likely ensue? Are the answers to these questions for Sav different than they might be for the criminal element in Boothill? A lot of this smacks of Western Sci-fi (which I would enjoy greatly), and the whole Marshall blows into town to clear things up and no one is quite sure what he has backing him. Or, on the other hand, ex-Knight of Mimm blows into town with worn power armor. The criminal elements start trying to get him on their side, and he plays the two against each other in an effort to clean up the town.
  6. Re: Mimm (sci-fantasy game) I was sick most of last month! It totally sucked and I woudln't wish it on anyone. I'm still catching up from it! Where's that magma-rock? BoT: What sort of feel were you looking for? I could see going a few different ways with this. The Dark: the town is in bad shape and every other bastage is trying to make things rough. Betrayal for the buck is the name of the game and death by blaster abounds. The Fair: Most people in the town are good, but a bad seed has blown in. Marshal Sav is moralistic and wins many folks over simply by charm and a warm smile. j/w
  7. Re: Mimm (sci-fantasy game) Resource points works wonders for mixing natural abilities and epuipment mongers. I have the book but haven't read out all the details, yet. So, I think Boz, Zornwill, and I have pretty much the same feelings about this. Starting with the focus of cleaning up a particular town seems like a good idea. I'll play the Imperial Marshall sent in to help out the corrupted 'sheriff'. I was intent on a powered-armor 'Knight', anyway. On the other hand, one of the people attempting to work out that ranch just outside of town could be a retired 'Military Man' with a suit of working Powered Armor in his basement. When the Orcs or criminal minded organization of your choice decides to try and run the man out... Good ideas, Rob. Let's use 'em.
  8. Re: 1970's slang Way cool, Cat. Gnarly. Totally tubular and the Valley Girl era. (Or was that the early 80s?)
  9. Re: Mimm (sci-fantasy game) Yep Boz, that's great. I'm a little concerned about the chat part, though. As I don't have 'net access at home at the moment, unless we used a particular CHAT (Hero Central or Hero Games), I may have problems with the combat part. We're supposedly getting home access agian soon, though... Warp9, please email me at the webdress Boz supplied. Thanks!
  10. Re: Magic field names Sword of Truth seems more of a high magic setting to me... Besides, we already esteblish sub-genres withing Fantasy. It isn't called Dark Fantasy, but High or Low, or Sword and Sorcery. I'm down with Phil's list, btw. That's cool.
  11. Re: Mimm (sci-fantasy game) Sure. Go ahead and forward my email to him Roger. Consider me an interested party that will play when the time comes for playing.
  12. Re: Mimm (sci-fantasy game) It all sounds interesting... Anything I can do to help?
  13. Re: High End DC:TAS The Bard is simple, yet elequent for these purposes. What better name for this whacked out cat? Thanks!
  14. Re: High End DC:TAS Thanks for the help, guys. Your words helped immeasurably. In case you're still interested, I'm going with a sort of off kilter idea for the first story arc. Shrike (the Robin knock-off) is a senior in high school. She'll begin to realize something new is going on in two of the 'crime' families/groups in LA. Basically, the children of violently opposed groups have fallen in love with each other. At the same time (or fairly close), Guardian will learn of the death of another groups leader. The subsequent investigation will turn up the fact he was killed by his brother who then took over the faction. In another family/group of a relatively ununited family, one man has assassinated the heads of the other groups an begins to bring those gangs under one thumb. Behind the scenes, a single entity is responsible for all these Shakesperian happenings. I haven't named him, but I'm playing with Wordsmith. He's obviously off his rocker and thematically follows the story lines of classic literature to get to his diabolical ends (which I havent' figured out, yet). I really just liked the idea of a single person orchestrating out Shakespere's plays for some reason or another. It will take awhile for the players (and their characters) to figure out what's going on. I hope...
  15. Re: what makes a "demon" a "demon"? That is a pretty frickin' awesome account, Von D-Man. I would rep you if I had any idea what 'reppin' someone meant! N00bs!
  16. Re: "Essential" Graphic Novels / Trade Paperbacks Astro City is incredible. I'd vote for the Planetary graphics, too. But, if you don't have knowledge about the 'history' of comic-dome. The alternate amalgrams may slip under the radar and some of the glory that is Planetary will be lost to you.
  17. Re: Magic-Noir (Pulp?) Hero Sweet! Keith Curtis is a great GM to emulate! Things are looking interesting. Keep the updates coming.
  18. Re: High End DC:TAS Good ideas, all Lapsedgamer! I'm not familiar with hardly any of your examples, but the overall message is fairly loud and clear!
  19. Re: High End DC:TAS I did and didn't get much help. I know the two players want to play a game which highlights these two characters and their lives within the scope of the overall setting. I want to be able to do that and still create a feeling of challenge once in a while. I also realize that a fairly large portion of B&R stories never had much threat to the protagonists. I'm not sure how that concept fits in with the RPG compared to the source material, though. These are great ideas. I'm pondering the best way to create these 'Upscaled' Thugs in the RCU. You've at least got me headed in a particular direction as opposed to simply treading water with no sight of land or rescue.
  20. I'm considering running a spin-off campaign for a 'Batman & Robin'-esque spinoff from the Champions of Justice in our long-running campaign, the RCU. These two characters are powerful renditions of Batman and Robin. I'm hoping to detail some of the Rogue's Gallery that Guardian and Shrike have accumulated in their solo careers away from the JSA type book, CoJ. My problem is coming up with decent stories. I need to create themed villians that could possibly challenge the heroines. But, the power level is fairly higher than DC:TAS is usually considered. The attacks and defenses of the heroines aren't exaggerated but, they have a plethora of skills and the like. Also, the city of these two (LA), isn't witout its powered heroes, either. This means that the real power-house villians are likely dealt with by the overtly more powerful heroes in the vicinity. I realize this is a rambling post, but any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.
  21. Re: Encyclopedia of Arda So... Anyone worked on Middle Earth Hero, yet? I've considered it, but lack the stick-to-it-tiveness so universal in the more prolific posters of this site...
  22. Re: Things I'd like to see more of in fantasy gaming You're right, Keith. I know that I'm part of the problem in SE, too. I don't think you're being completely accurate, though. There would be those people that grew chafe under the yoke of prejudism and slavery. Otherwise, you wouldn't have evidence of revolts and efforts to make the status quo different... Another problem as a player is seeing the GM's vision clearly. I have difficulty relating to someone who sees those things as okay. I consider myself an equitable RPer. But, without some relational knowledge, I don't know how to RP that disinclination towards injustices of the world. I wish I could. It would be cool.
  23. Re: Game Maps and Counters Exchange NOt bad... Like you say, it is sort of small. At this point I've established there is a Uhaul truck size that is being used for nefarious activities. It could be any sort of factory, really. Thanks for what you've found though, mudpyr8! I'll bet that gets used!
  24. Re: Game Maps and Counters Exchange Oh! I'm also starting a DC:TAS game set in Los Angeles. I spent some time this morning looking for maps and neighborhood descriptions but came up with nil. Anyone got anything that could help me out? I'm in the hicks of northern Illinois...
  25. Re: Game Maps and Counters Exchange So, anyone taking requests? I need a decent map I can use online for a secret lair inside some sort of factory. Perhaps a cold packing meat plant? Printing factory? Almost anything would work. The campaign is based in Houston. Thanks!
