  1. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I have witnessed and taken part in another piece of further proof that married couples should never be working in the same company. And it feels good to strike another blow against workplace nepotism.
  2. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Nothing brings me more joy than a website called http://www.despair.com...
  3. Re: Scoffing at Magic: What do people think in your game world? In my setting, magic is a force different from cosmic and neogenic forces. But to the normal person, magic isn't real. They see a sorcerer casting a fire spell and a neohuman firing off a gout of flame. The sorcerer is just being more theatrical to them.
  4. Re: A Thread for Random Musings If you are on a sinking ship and you call out "Women and children, first!" Would there be a feminist backlash?
  5. Re: What's *your* superpower? I have no idea what my 'superpower' would be. But there was a guy I knew that we called Captain Splosion. He was working at a mountain lodge over the winter one year and got caught in a propane tank explosion. He hardly got hurt and after the incident, he could walk into a room and suck all of the warmth out of it. Even a room that had the windows opened to the hot summer air outside!
  6. Re: Musings on Random Musings Or the bumper sticker I saw one day... "Jesus Saves! Everyone else take damage."
  7. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Moving this weekend is going to be 'fun'. But I do get a cool TV out of the deal! Already met the obligatory hot downstairs neighbor. Sucks that I have to wait until Wedensday before I get my phone and internet up. But for the unadulterated glory of playing with a 1 Mbps line, it's worth the wait. Hmm... I wonder if the obligatory hot downstairs neighbor likes anime...
  8. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Demented Musings... Is it safe to yell "Movie!" in a crowded firehouse? If you are on a sinking ship and yell "Women and children first!" Would there be a feminist backlash? Why do they call it Driving While Intoxicated when you feel great? If an enviromentalist falls off a tree in a forest, does he still make a sound? And just how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?
  9. Re: Nation Building-Do You Use Fictitious Nations? Tannu Tuva is actually a real place. It was its own kingdom lying along the Mongolian border up unto it was assimilated into the Soviet Union in 1920. Most notable item about Tuva are the throat singers who can pull off double harmonics with their song. (Sorry, had a "Ripley's Believe It Ot Not" moment there...) I have a few other nations that I use that I built from existing nations or regions. Including a shadow nation inside the US. But that's something to be told later...
  10. This is kind of in relation to the thread on fictitious and/or super-cities. How many of us create and use fictitious nations to help populate our worlds? I'll give a couple of examples of nations that I use for my Neoverse setting. The Republic of Honangua- A small island nation in the Caribbean about half the size of Jamaica. It's leader is the notorious despot and weapons merchant known as Dominar Acero. He rules with an iron fist with the aid of mercenaries that he has supplied power armor to and given them safe haven within the country. The Kingdom of Tannu Tuva- A former autonomous region in Russia that silently severed its ties to Moscow after the fall of the Soviet Union. The Tuvans choose the mysterious Jade Dragoness as their queen. All that is know of her is that she is a powerful geomancer and rumors allege that she may be an actual dragon in disguise. What are your examples?
  11. Re: Superhero Images Very well done piece there. Good work, Acroyear!
  12. Re: The Event Boy, it seems that when I get finished with an 'event' I get started on something else big and nasty to keep the setting on its toes. I've had the invasion by the Kytellan Empire, Lord Lukifel's first attempt to conquer the world, the war with the real Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and I just recently finished up the massive War on Terror story arc. And now I have plans for an uber-cosmic nasty to show up and give everyone a massive scare.
  13. Re: "Super" Cities- How many is too many? I currently have about three ficticious cities that I use for the Neoverse that are based roughly on the actual cities or towns whose space they now occupy. The first is Centennial City, RI; which inhabits the Jamestown/Conanicut Island area. This city was founded in 1876 and is the home city for both incarnations of the Hunter. Next is Elysia, MI; which sits where St. Joseph and Benton Harbor now exist. Former home city of the original Guardian. Next is Haven City, WA; which covers an area stretching from South Bend to Raymond in Pacific County. The Tarot Agency is one of the groups of heroes operating there currently. I'd say that three is a nice number, from my point of view.
  14. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER At least no one is running around screaming... Chinchillaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
  15. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER We could, but then they would set the marmosets loose on us...
  16. Re: Superhero Images I felt that I had to show some of my heroes in bulk. So here is Power Team!!! From left to right: Quantum, American Victory III, Morgan "Freight Train" Freight, Blackstar, Mystrix, Guardian II, Hunter II, Bluestreak, Artemis, Ladyhawk, and Centurion. These were done using the DCU templates from Kryptcom's site and done on Paint Shop Pro 8.
  17. Re: Tell me about you're JLA The closest team I have in the Neoverse is Power Team, which has been around in one incarnation or another since the Silver Age. The current roster consists of: Guardian II (Team Leader)- Formerly known as the original Mad Dog. Once the living vessel of a fragment of the Primordial God of Light known as Avatar. Along with the entity called Keystone (who was a sentient essence fragment of Avatar) sacrificed themselves to resurrect the god and defeat Death during the Apocalypse War. Avatar later brought him back to continue the battle against evil. A 7' tall brick with flight, Guardian is vulnerable to magic. Which leads to the next member... Mystrix- Student of the master mystic and demigod, Alex Arkham. She joined Power Team in Prof. Arkham's stead. A talented sorceress who has developed feelings for Guardian. Which are being reciprocated. Hunter II- Son of the original Hunter. He took over the other 'family business' when the Silver Age Hunter grew too old to continue. A highly skilled inventor, he has improved and expanded on his father's crimefighting arsenal. Known to make heavy use of a massively modified Dodge Tomahawk motorcycle. American Victory III- Mysterious inheritor to a legacy dating back to the Golden Age. She is thought to have came into being with the destruction of the android AV II at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11. First appeared attacking Taliban and al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. Has the same lightning powers as the previous two AVs. Artemis- Formerly known as Grey Eagle. Member of the previous incarnation of Power Team that was all but wiped out by War during the Apocalypse War. Had gone temporarily insane due to the deaths of her friends and her fiancee, Steel Centurion, the team leader at the time. She recovered from the mental trauma with the aid of fellow survivor, Morgan "Freight Train" Freight. Considered to be one of the most supreme archers on the planet. Quantum- A neohuman who can transform into an being of pure plasma energy and can alter the atomic and molecular structures of non-living objects. Gained his powers when caught in a fusion reactor accidental was injected with helium and went nova. Teamed with then Mad Dog during the Kytellan Invasion and the final assault on the emperor's flagship. Bluestreak- An investigative reporter who was kidnapped and exposed to a hypermetabolic inducing drug when she exposed the lethal side effects. Instead, the drug triggered her powers. She has super-speed and reflexes, but still tends to think her actions through. Blackstar- A popular police detective in Hong Kong who was caught up in the events of the Apocalypse War. In the aftermath, the original Guardian accepted leadership of the Blackstar Agency, an interstellar law enforcement organization. Now called Blackstar Prime, he offered the position as Earth's resident Blackstar agent, which she accepted. Wears a special powered armor that grants her all the powers and abilities of a Blackstar agent. Centurion- A pilot in the US Navy who was shot down by the Horseman War. As he lay dying, he was visited by the cosmic entity known as Lady Astra as was given a chance to live if he was willing to accept a burden greater and more noble than just defending his country. He accepted and was reborn as one of Lady Astra's heroic Centurions. Now a living battery of cosmic power, he can call for the signature 'armor' of the Centurions and channel his cosmic energy for various feats. Ladyhawk- A Silver Age heroine who was trapped in a cryogenic cell by a criminal now long dead. Her wings allow her to fly and she can channel her bio-energy into devastating punches and kicks. She is still getting used to a world that is totally different from the world she knew 30 years ago. Morgan "Freight Train" Freight (inactive member)- Morgan is the current brains behind the team. He was severly injured by War and left a paraplegic from the encounter. He attempted to return to active duty with a special powersuit of his own design. The recent decisive battle against the neohuman terror group Nox Eternis damaged the powersuit beyond his ability to repair. Has chosen to retire from active crimefighting to help coordinate Power Team activities and act as a central logistics handler for any major events that involve any of the other superteams across the world.
  18. Re: Supervillain Images He has been called by many names, curses, and epithets over the millenia. But most sentients refer to him as the Dominator. It is rumored that he was a powerful ally to or a part of the Primordial Gods of Darkness, of whom most were imprisoned in a dimension by the Primordial Gods of Light at the climax of their eon-long war. Stripped of his physical form, he must survive in a massive suit of cosmic armor. He travels the Neoverse looking for worlds that hold the promise of the special energy he needs for his continued existence; the energy of superbeings. But over a thousand centuries ago, he heard of a force more powerful than the energy of a neogenically empower sentient. This force is known as Meta. The Dominator now hunts mercilessly for Meta, ravaging whole civilizations in his path. His quest now centers on one being. An entity called the Celestial Lama. It is the Dominator's belief that the Celestial Lama is the vessel that holds Meta within. And the hunt now brings the Dominator to Earth...
