  1. Re: Variable Power Pools.. Again After speaking with my player, We came to the same idea. We figured that we'd rework the overall equipment list and then use a MP for the base equipment and then include a small VPP for the "packs". These packs are going to be limited. We shall see.....
  2. OK... Another strange idea from the depths of my mind.. I was sitting with my son this morning and saw an episode of Digimon. Of course.. being a gamer as I am.. My mind started to work out the details. Basics.. Digimon are sentient programs that are able to manifest in the real world. Each has an attack form with they are called upon to use. A little more advanced is the idea of Digi-evolution. They apparently can "evolve" into a higher form. AKA.. more powerful combat form. Advanced.. The human "handlers" can bio-merge with the Digimon to form a yet even higher form of the entity. Human spirit in the machine form.... Oh boy... Then there is a Digi-merge function where the handler can call upon various other programs to augment the Digimon to insane levels. This is my understanding of it sp far. Here is the big question... Is this possible in the Heroes system? Any ideas... b/c I'm stumped
  3. Re: Variable Power Pools.. Again OK... Equipment Pools are another option. I think I'm leaning towards the Multiform option..... It seems a little labor intensive for the initial write-up, but it does make sense.
  4. Re: Variable Power Pools.. Again I like the idea of Multiform... makes sense.. I'll suggest it to my player..
  5. I'm sure that thisissue has been asked and answered before but I have not been able to find the answer that I need. The question is this... I have a player that wants to create a power armor suit that has "Modular Mission Packs" that basically would allow him to switch out weapons and equipment on a mission to mission basis... I think it is a cool idea but anyway.... The question arose when I saw the write-up and noticed that the "Standard package", which is the base weapons and flight abilities incorporates a Multi-Power. The thought being that the weapons are in a module that attaches to the suit. The Multipower just represents the weapon pack.... Would you allow this??? I seem to remember somewhere that you cannot mix a VPP and a MPP. But I can't find the rule. I know that the GM has final say but I would like some advise. I am leaning towards allowing it since it is a tight concept and the "theory behind the function" is sound. Well??? Any thoughts??
  6. Re: A costume challenge You may have seen this stuff.... it's called Under Armor. A lot of athletes and police officers wear it. It is a thicker material than leotards and is worn tight. It keeps you warm and looks pretty good. It comes in all different designs. One such design is long-sleeve and high necked..
  7. Re: Question for the legal eagles re federal arrest warrants Just to add my 2 cents worth.... I am a police officer and have dealt with Federal Warrants before. First of all.... what type of warrant is it?? If it is a Federal Arrest Warrant, then the character has officially been charged with a Fderal Crime. Based on my knowledge of Supers games.... I'm sure there is a Super Patriots Act in the world. If the warrant is a Federal BENCH warrant, then this is a mandate to appear before a judge for some reason. Usually, we deal with Bench Warrants in "failure to appear" cases. We grab the guy/gal, take them before a judge and 7 out of 10 times, they walk out of the judge's office.. OK... Now.. the warrant lists what charges are pending on them... Warrants are public knowledge and so are accessible unless sealed. Most of the tiem, the Affidavit is the item sealed and not the warrant. Hiring an Attorney would not be a bad idea... In fact it is a GREAT idea. The world of the courts is a labyrinth of double-talk and smoke and mirrors. If any of you have seen Chicago... the song "Give'em the old razzle dazzle" is very accurate. Well... there you go.... my 2 cents....
  8. Re: A costume challenge If she doesn't think herself all that attractive, I don't see her wearing tight revealing clothes. I speak from experience... growing up I was over weight and so I never wore tight clothes... Now that I have left the baby fat behind... I have less issue with tight clothing. I could see her wearing overalls and a mask.. Not that sexy but functional and "safe". As the character progresses maybe she could start wearing more revealing clothes but to start I don't see tight. Fairchild from Gen 13 was just blessed with a dropdead gorgeous body (AKA skilled artist) so she can get away with the skimpy tight, Fredericks of Hollywood costume.
  9. OK.. I posted about the up-coming Fantastic Four movie and I menttioned that I would like to see a Kingdom Come movie... the question is... Who would you have to play the characters? I will think about this and get back to you, but I would like to hear your ideas.
  10. Re: Anyone else awaiting this? I watched the trailer and I have to say that I think it looks interesting.... I think that Marvel has finally gotten the idea of how to make a comic book adaptation. They have yet to bring out the third X-Men movie (all of the cast signed on for three) I only wish that DC would stop screwing around and bring out the Green Lantern Movie that is bogged down in Pre-Production hell. I would love to see a Kingdom Come movie also. Now that would be cool.
  11. Re: An odd question Like Speedball, I work withy young students... I am a School Resource Officer / D.A.R.E. instructor at a "inner city" middle school, so I deal with kids around 11-13 years old. I would be very afraid if some of these kids had superpowers. There is a very strong "Me" attitude that I have seen. They are out for themselves and all that they can get... like the world owes them. If I had 800 pts to spent on myself.... Hmmm... I regret to say but I think that I would end up becoming a vigilante. I have often thought of it. I would love to have the powers of the Green Lantern or super psychic powers.. but I fear that I would eventually slip and cross the line. I actually based a character design off of a cop that is suddenly granted super-powers.
  12. Re: (somehow) realistic Secret IDs Well, speaking from a law enforcement perspective, CSI is nice and all... but OMG is it hyped!!!! OK.. you get a print... still have to compare it to a print on file... DNA.. congrats.. unless you have a sample to compare it to... You have to wait to get a suspect to compare it to. You might be able to find some tidbits like sex and certain racial characteristics but that's all. A few co-workers and I sat down one day and tried to figure out if a vigillante could operate without being caught. We figured NO. I won't go into all the details but needless to say, cellphones and the internet played a HUGE part in the demise. Superhuman abilities are another matter. As has been stated previously, super movement, shapeshifting and the like would be great. Personally, I think that psychic powers lend themselves to hiding your abilties the most. I had a character that when he "transformed" he actually created a psychic self. A being of energy that was seperate from the user. He told people that he was narcaleptic and that he sometimes fell asleep. In truth it was his mind switching over to the other body. The psi-self could appear and disappear at will and had no DNA or other evidence to leave behind. If any of you watch Justice League Unlimited you will know this... In a recent episode, Batman confronts a CADMUS representative and gets up in her face. She backs down but then warns Batman to not stick his nose in.. The threat is then finished with, ".....Rich boy". Let us not underestimate the fact that the government could find out, but that it is more advantageous to let you run around than to stop you.
  13. Re: i feel humiliated Crits aside... If you want Doc D out of your campaign world then he's dead... If not then you have several options... 1) You only destroyed a remarkable robot that you thought was Doctor D. 2) In the last few seconds of his life, he was able to initate a device that downloaded his consciousness into another body, in a lab somewhere. 3) An evil magic user reincarnated Doc D. for use as a pawn only ends up losing control and Doc D. can return in a new more sinister form. (path that I am personally taking) Any of these can be used.... It's up to you.
  14. Re: Champs Worldwide: Whaddya want? No England yet... huh.. I was born in England and I currently have a few Supers written up for an England-based campaign. BUT.. since you don't want them yet... I'll keep them to myself. One character that I thought about a while ago.. is a female psychic named Pandora. Her ability is to psychically amplify individual's feelings.. all except Hope. She can control people by making them feel what she wants them to feel. I suppose you could drop her into a Greek Supers team but that is a little of the sterotyping that everybody seems to dislike. I once had a team of mutant "heros"? that were based off of the Greek Pantheon. Zeus was a master tactician.. His ability made his mind into a supercomputer able to calculate thousands of scenarios in seconds. Aries The classic soldier type. His ability allowed himself to morph his body into different weapons. Etc etc etc Well.. You get the idea. I stayed away from the classical images of the names..Zues didn't throw lightning bolts or stuff like that. Nobody wore togas. Their base was a floating citadel called Olympus. This one I had to do. Another idea I have floating around is a hero from Rapa Nui (Easter Island). Going with a really sterotypical character, I designed a character that is actually a Brick type made of stone. He is an archeologist that found a secret pit under one of the stone statutes. The pit contained a clay pot that accidentally broke when he was pulling it out. The spirits held within transformed him into a huge Brick that has a striking resemblence to the statutes. Powers are Super Str, Armor and the ability to travel through the earth at will. He stays on Easter Island, continuing his research and protecting the island.
  15. Re: One of my PCs wants to become a US law enforcement officer I work in law enforcement and I would say... Linked to the Dept. of Defense. That agency is responsible for the defense of the country and all things that can fall under that catagory. As far as FBI goes: Per an FBI agent I know, they are "Famous But Incompetant". The D.O.D. is the place I would put them. I'm sure the government would create an off-shoot agancy to handle the Supers... I believe that the government's response was accurately protrayed in X-Men, the movie, when it was brought up that there were mutants with the ability to walk through walls...... Traditionally, the government fears whatever it cannot catalog, control or create.
  16. Re: Background Cliches I don't bother with the cliche's as much as I try hard to avoid making copies of existing characters. Alas... I usually fail... I played a power armored hero named Manga (Samurai motif on armor) which was an Iron Man wannabe and now I play a "Power Stone" wielding hero that is a chromatically challenged Green Lantern. I think that it was said before.. With all the comics that are out there... it is very difficult to truly avoid all cliches ... I have found that with most characters you can point a finger back and say.... That is like ____________.
  17. Re: WWYC Want for Christmas? Red Knight: A better understanding of the Power Stone that grants him his powers and the secret order that is hunting him for it. He would also like an invulnerable flying puppy... They sound cool.
  18. Re: Background Cliches Personally, I like some of the characters from Astro City... Samaritan... A normal guy that was sent back in time to avert a major, humanity smashing event. The process of sending him back super-charged him and made him Superm...err...Samaritan. The Confessor.... a Vampire trying to atone for his sins.... so he dressed up in priestly attire and has a big cross on his chest. The pain of the cross kept him on the straight and narrow. Interesting ideas if you ask me... Of course.... the fall into the cliche catagories too.
  19. Re: Green Lantern Object Creation... Very true.. I stand...err... sit corrected...
  20. Re: Green Lantern Object Creation... bblackmoor, Yes I have been reading the thread.. My last post was just to vindicate those of us who belive the Force Wall is the way to go .... My first post indicated that I felt the Force Wall was the ticket... Also the post was to possibly alleviate some back and forth discussion by focusing the discussion on a specific area. I guess it didn't come across like I hoped.... My bad.
  21. Re: Green Lantern Object Creation... OK... I wanted to get the opinion of a gaming guru and so I posted a message to Steve Long.. I wrote: "... how you could create an object in a GL-esque fashion. Specifically, create a bridge... " He replied with this.... "I don't generally answer "how to" questions. 5ER 180-81 (and the old Rules FAQ) does have rules for horizontal Force Walls, if those are of any use to you" Horizontal Force Walls..... I guess this sheds some light onto where we shoudl look.
  22. Re: Background Cliches I've lost count..... but.. #) One day while searching a grandfather's house, the would-be hero stumbles across an old locked chest.. Being the good grandson that he/she is.. You force open the lock and find a strange glowing amulet... the rest is history!! Going back to the issue of family being the main nemesis.... In the campaign, I'm currently playing in... my character's father is one of the wealthiest men in the country AND the leader of a secret order determined to capture my character's hero Id or destroy him. Talk about issues!!!
  23. Before I go further, let me apologize if this is a "dead horse" issue. I started another thread roughly dealing with the same idea(s). As of now, if has been able to generate several plausible ideas for how you could create an object in a GL-esque fashion. Specifically, create a bridge.... (SEE: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=539687#post539687) I was wondering if there is an official ruling on the subject that I could use.
  24. Re: Green Lantern Object Creation... I can see your point about the potential abuse... To be honest, I am torn as to what really is the best way. I calculated TK with area effect and also Force Wall.... The draw back to TK is that attacks would not strike the construct, therefore making it nigh indestructible. Other games I have played actually had a "Make object" power that allowed you to craft an object, and the toughness/PD was based on how many points you sunk into it. I fear that I will have to revisit both designs again before I am fully satisfied.
  25. Re: Green Lantern Object Creation... OK.... I spent a while playing with the Entangle as a bridge theory and also the TK as a bridge theory and my own conclusions are ...... I'm going with a Force Wall. As seen in numerous GL books/comics, GL will create a force construct and when it is overloaded it simply shatters. To me force wall makes sense and doesn't require a page full of modifiers. I am going to tack on "Variable FX" to account for the different appearances but that is it.
