  1. Re: Champs 25ths Now At Tina's Address sent - I don't want to wait any longer than I must. (Man, we all sound like junkies or something, don't we?)
  2. Re: Champs 25ths Now At Tina's Crud. I just found out that I am having to leave a couple days earlier than I had planned for a trip. If mine hasn't already gone out the door, any chance I can change the mailing address?
  3. Re: Multiform & bases And what makes Multiform (Banner/Hulk) substantially different from just going OIHID for everything? Now, in Phil's example, one the main form could use the base, but it does lead to some more questions: Group of 5 - all (save MultiformMan, hereafter MM) chip in 10 points for a base. MM, in the primary form, chips in 10, but adds another 30 xp (he's been hoarding) for the multiform - and then says "I raised the max point value of my alternate form by 150 points. I'd like to put them all toward the base." Now what?
  4. Re: Champs 25ths Now At Tina's But I want it now!. I knew I should have looked for an "overnight shipping" option or something. Thanks for the update - it will stop me from bugging the UPS driver incessantly.
  5. Re: How would you write up this power? It looks like Missile Deflection (bullets/shrapnel -15 pts), plus the adders to let her reflect them back at any target. FReD does give the technique of dodging out of the way as being on of the SFX options, so that is how I would probably write it up.
  6. Re: Multiform & bases But, per FReD, if a group is buying a base or vehicle, they can divide up the cost however they see fit. So, in my example above, one person could pay 46 points, and each of the other 4 pay 1 pt each. But, let's assume (as per the book example) that everyone pays a 10 point share for a 50 point base. If the character with multiform has to pay that same contribution in each form, then it actually costs them 10 points (main form) + 2 points (increasing the multiform total by 10/5). Thus, MultipleMarvin is penalized, whereas SpeedsterSteve, and MartialArtistMoe are not. And, if alternate forms have to pay points, then they should certainly count toward to total points for the base, right? If Menagerie ever decides to build a base, a modest amount of points would let her build one that can repel high-powered heroes.
  7. Okay, quick, possibly silly question on Multiform and bases (not bases with multiform): Hypothetical group has 5 members, at least one of which has multiform. They build a base that has a real cost of (say) 50 points, and they decide to all pay equally for it. Question 1: Does the Multiform character only have to pay 10 points total, but ensure that all forms pay something (if they wish to access the base in all forms*). Question 2: If, for some reason, Multiform character pays 10 points in each form (main and alternate), then does it count as a contribution of 20 points, or only as 10? * Per FReD, 211 it says that a GM should require the alt forms to buy in to the resource, but it does not say equally nor say that the points from each form are not counted toward the total group contribution.
  8. Re: WWYCD: Lost in a world without Supers; 9/11/2001 Well, Whisper has eidetic memory. Even if that were not enough, he is still more than capable of scanning the entire Eastern Seaboard for any one of the hijackers - and once he has one, he should certainly be able to force a mass-grounding of all air traffic. Whammo does not have eidetic memory - but knowing even some vague details, the presence of a single person tearing up runways and what not might actually manage to ground all flights. (But, as I said, Whammo would probably fail, too. He'd try, but he's not subtle, nor terribly brilliant, and solutions which do not involve brute force would not readily occur to him.)
  9. D'oh - wrong forum. Please move it to rules discussion for me, mods. Okay, quick, possibly silly question on Multiform and bases (not bases with multiform): Hypothetical group has 5 members, at least one of which has mutliform.
  10. Re: Keelhauling - in space! Nah - I imagine that most non-stmospheric craft would have all sorts of sharp, rugged bits that a suit could catch and tear on. After all, if you are never going to enter the atmosphere, why bother with streamlining?
  11. Re: Keelhauling - in space! Are you wanting to replicate the (usually) non-fatal practice of tossing someone over the port side and hauling them up on the starbord side, or the usually lethal punihsment of tossing someone over the bow and hauling them up along the stern? You really cannot replicate it well - the barnacles would rip the clothes and skin, salt water in the wounds, near-death by drowning, and so forth. I suppose, if your hypothetical vessel had a radioactive pile near the stern or something, you could have them do tapdance on the hull in that area, but it's really not the same.

  13. Re: HELP - How much does a building weigh? UB isn't a whole lot of help here - I can tell how much Str you need to lift the Space shuttle, but not an office building. I did find that the steelwork frame (alone) for the Morgan Stanley building in London weighed about 2,200 tonnes, but nothing on a building with concrete, drywall, etc. A Str of 90, however, allows you to lift an unloaded destroyer, or 6.4 ktons (though the current DDG-1000 specs call for a weigh of about 15.8 ktons), or an enormous stone bridge. Since the building only has 7 completed floors and an unfinished eighth, it probably weighs in the range of 3.5-5 ktons, so a Str of 90 is sufficient to move it.
  14. Re: Kal Turak Genre-ally speaking, it is, and the questions in this topic could be debated for genre-ations.
  15. Re: Kal Turak I always interpreted that to mean that he is not (at the time of Champs) at full strength, and that, at some point, he may become even more powerful. Or should it be read that his powers are stronger, but, relative to the increased technology, presence of superhumans, etc, is "weaker" than what he had in the Turakian age?
  16. Re: Napalm vs. Tanks Apparently there are multiple grades of napalm. Per Wiki, So, the tank is either out of commision for 4 turns or so (after all, you want to be sure that the fireball surrounding you is out), or a looong time (in terms of combat rounds - I mean, really, 50 turns? How many combats go that long? And you'd probably stay buttoned up for 15 minutes, just in case, so call it 75 turns). Anyways, I suspect that you do bombing runs on tanks for a variety of reasons - one, you have complete air superiority (or nearly so, meaning little use of accurate, portable AA and virtually no enemy aircraft); two, ordinance reasons. I suspect that most SRBMs have a payload of less than 250 kg, because heavier payload = shorter range, whereas planes can drop 500 lb bombs like they were nothing. I suspect also that three, planes (aside from being on the ground) are less of a potential target than a missile truck (and cruise missiles do have to be programmed onto a target, limiting the battlefield role); and four - bombs might well be cheaper than missiles - after all, no motor or rocket, just a big explosive encased in a shell. (Yes, and a targeting device + directional fins - but the same gear is on any missile.) Missiles are incredibly useful, but the era of combat aircraft is far from over.
  17. Re: Napalm vs. Tanks It is possible that Molotov cocktails, man-portable flamethrowers and the like are no longer effective against the Abrams, due to improvements in armor and the like. Still, if the tank has an open hatch, and gets hit with napalm, it honestly does not matter how good the armor is - the crew would still bake. Napalm is also typically dropped onto a target, and the thinnest armor on a tank is on the top. It might not penetrate directly, but the stuff will seep down into any cracks or holes - so you might not lose the crew, but the tank might still wind up as a mobility & firepower kill.
  18. Re: Napalm vs. Tanks I'm not sure where I put the reference texts for this, so this might be in error, but. . . The use of napalm against a tank is still reasonably effective, in most cases. Although the armor may not be penetrated, unless the tank is buttoned up and airtight, the napalm will still consume all of the available oxygen in the area. If the tank is an older model (say, pre 1991), the fuel and ammo might not be fully compartmentalized, and, if it cooks off, crew death or destruction of the tank can occur. While napalm may not do much damage to the actual body of the tank itself, there are many interior components which would be able to withstand the temperatures. My guess would be RKA, Indirect, NND, Does Body, Sticky, Continuous. Probably with a couple extra +1 Stun modifiers too - it's supposed to be incredibly painful.
  19. Re: "Why'd you yell FIRE! when you fell into the chocolate?"
  20. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Yeah, I've had those too. Of course, I turn on Hover before I start my TP hops, so no falling for me. This is a wholly seperate issue - apparently it showed up when I7 went to the test server, and it never got fully resolved.
  21. Re: How would you use Takofanes? I know, I know. . . one's a crazed diety, horribly maimed and utterly insane, while the other is. . . well, maybe not. One is a horribly typecast plot device, while. . . not much better, huh? All right - one has official stats in the Hero system, and the other doesn't. Yep - completely different.
  22. Re: How would you use Takofanes? It's really Kal-Turak? I'd start combing the land for a sandy-haired boy named Garion (or any reasonable facsimile thereof), and let him deal with it.
  23. Re: How would you use Takofanes? It's the problem of uber-villains - if you actually play them to their capacity (ie, a super-genius, malevolent, incredibly powerful sorceror), then they should win. It just makes for a lousy game - so we have stupid vampires, easy-to-kill dragons, and archliches who don't use their full power against the huddled masses of humans.
  24. Re: How would you use Takofanes? Use his VPP to build a RKA with an ungodly radius (say, enough to cover the entire earth) with 0 END, Continuous, and No range. Within a minute, everyone on earth without resistent defences is dead. (It's a "low-powered" RKA, 1d6, I think - I can take No Range, and, since it can't get through his defences anyway, can ignore Personal Immunity.) Actually. . . . it's similar to Oddhat's use, but I kill off all the earth first, before offing the PCs. Edit - oooh! Maybe instead use a Major Transform to change all of the oxygen in the air to helium - much easier, and far fewer heroes have the LS needed to survive.
  25. Re: PS: Farmer in a Fantasy Campaign The OLF became largely defunct on MKRealms after the founder lost his warlord status for telling a certain game company that their policies were foolish and alienating the customer base - and offered suggestions on how to successfully run large events.
