    Here's a standout plane from the late twenties/early thirties--the Handley Page HP42-- While the range is given as 500 miles, I see no reason why extra fuel tanks couldn't be installed to give the plane extra range for record-breaking long-distance flights. ("Ladies and gentlemen--with the HP 42 modified to my specifications, we shall be the first to fly non-stop from London to Pretoria in South Africa! Together we shall write a new chapter in the annals of aviation history! Are you with me?")
