  1. I had the same thought. Though given his 'pedigree' I might alter the spelling to something like Brainchylde...
  2. I think I like the idea of including Indirect...thanks. And just to clarify, the attached HD character file is the characters 'prototypical version' and is built on a 150pt base (being a 'teen hero' and all). As such it does not yet have the above mentioned EB attack added to his powers . -Carl-
  3. {As always, I am working with 5th Edition, so please frame any responses based on that....thanks} Some while back I built a teen hero named Ellis who had the beginnings of a cyberkentic power suite (eg: things like an ability to disrupt electronics, mind link with computers, etc). In the campaign he was a part of there were a couple of occasions where, for the sake of storytelling/adventure color, the GM had some disruption of electronics happen spontaneously in his vicinity, including people being shocked by their cell phones. This got me thinking of a new power to (eventually) add to his repertoire: an energy blast attack, with the limitation of having to have suitable source electronics (eg: cell phone, MP3 player, etc) near to the target. It really isn't that difficult a build. However... I am uncertain as to how much of a limitation to apply to the power. I am currently thinking that with the level of connectivity we see in modern society, the limitation would be no more than 1/4. Does that seem reasonable to those here assembled? Thanks. As always I look forward to any suggestions/input. EDIT: For reference, I've gone ahead and attached the Hero Designer character file for him that was used in the campaign. Please note that certain portions of it are lacking (eg: when I submitted it he didn't yet have a fully fleshed out backstory, no last name, etc). -Carl- Ellis AKA Wiki _last name not yet decided_ vrs 1 0225121_001.hdc
  4. While not directly 'Flash Gordon' (or even HERO System for that matter) you might want to look for/at the 'Gernsback' alternate Earth from the GURPS supplements Infinite Worlds, and Alternate Earths. The basic plotline (without, I hope, breaking too much copy-write) is that Nicola Tesla was able to control some of his mental health issues and ended up marrying Anne Morgan, daughter of millionaire and philanthropist J. P. Morgan. The added stability of his wife and the financial support of his father-in-law allowed him to turn a variety of his hypothesized inventions (such as broadcast power) into reality. -Carl-
  5. This came across one of my web feeds this morning and having not seen it referenced previously here on the forums and thinking that it might have gaming potential (eg: character ideas, plot hooks, etc) this seemed like a proper forum to share it in (though admittedly, the genres included in the archive are fairly diverse). So here: http://www.openculture.com/2014/03/download-15000-free-golden-age-comics-from-the-digital-comic-museum.html -Carl-
  6. I suspected that this sort of linkage belongs here, more than say in the Dark Champions or Champions forums...If I am in error, let me know.... That said: I see possibilities here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIu85WQTPRc -Carl-
  7. {Standard disclaimer: As always (or at least almost always) I am looking at 5th Edition stats and concepts.....thanks.} After re-watching (for perhaps the 15th time) the 1937 film version of James Hilton's Lost Horizon this morning I found myself toying with the idea of a campaign where the PC's are, as the subject line suggests, agents of the lamasery in the Valley of the Blue Moon. Not that they would come and go from the valley, or even fully know of its existence. Rather I am considering what might be a motley group of 'do gooders' who could be involved in endeavors ranging from the collection of items of wisdom for shipment to the lamasery, to perhaps even forestalling the expected cataclysm (at least for awhile, to allow more preparations to be completed). One initial thing I am looking for is thoughts regarding possible 'Package Deal' items. I am already toying with (based simply on the demeanor of Robert Conway shown in the film) making a Code Versus Killing part of the equation. Additionally I would think that basic literacy in the form of Chinese used in that region would be a reasonable requirement....Beyond that, I am open to suggestions/input. Thanks in advance for any comments and/or suggestions. -Carl-
  8. I admittedly don't have a great deal of familiarity with the issue #1 version, but I might consider making the N-Ray vision telescopic. I base that thought primarily on my familiarity with the Fleischer cartoon series, which could be seen as contemporaneous to the issue #1 version.

  10. A news release of potential gaming use: http://www.darpa.mil/NewsEvents/Releases/2014/02/11.aspx From the article, here is a description of the system, with references to the attached image: -Carl-
  11. I'm a bit late to the discussion, but thought that you might find some build ideas here: http://surbrook.devermore.com/adaptationscreatures/games/dnd/shambling.html With, of course, full credit to Michael Surbrook and any applicable creators of content. -Carl-
  12. As described in the subject line..... http://i.imgur.com/4Um7Qs6.jpg
  13. I suspect that there are other threads that deal with this idea, however this image inspired me to begin another one....The idea is to share any sort of image that might visually depict a 'plot point or scene' in an adventure or campaign setting.
  14. It's a cousin to the 'Battlesuit Potemkin'!!

    Babylon 5

And here is this...... While the current page may not be accessible (at last report it had been hijacked by miscreants) here is a version of the Starhero Fandom Babylon 5 adaptation(s) via the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, circa 10 Dec 2008: https://web.archive.org/web/20081210091843/http://www.starherofandom.com/b5/index.php
  16. I also just (well, several hours ago..) remembered that there is a wall that divides the city we see in the SF television show Almost Human, with the primary action occurring in the more prosperous side, and the corrupt 'Syndicate' being based in the ghetto-ized side. They really haven't followed up much on the trope, excluding some 'throw away references' (eg: segments of the pilot episode, the 'memory parlor' that Kenex has visited, something one of the NX's said after interviewing a witness, etc). And while it is more a street level Star Hero, or perhaps Dark Champions, campaign venue it might be worth a gander for ideas.
  17. Depending on the 'grit/realism' level of the campaign, you might want to try the method seen in the cartoon series The Super Hero Squad Show. It is (at its core) a version of the 'build a giant wall' option mentioned in the original post: two cities sit side by side - Super Hero City and Villainville. The series is full of self referential and self deprecating humor. Definitely a good option for a 'beer and pretzels' scenario or three....

  20. Plot seed material here, if I ever saw it. And potentially useful in other genres as well. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/mystery-of-the-lyubov-orlova-ghost-ship-full-of-cannibal-rats-could-be-heading-for-british-coast-9080103.html EDIT: The WIkipedia entry for the ship in question: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Lyubov_Orlova -Carl-
  21. This crossed my scans in a link on a page devoted to the classic OGRE and GEV games. Thought it might be of interest to those here. https://medium.com/war-is-boring/6f5a0093cab0 -Carl-
  22. Reflecting on the 'how to build this' is not off topic at all.... Of course, anything I might build would be based on 5th Edition....And when I first saw this I recalled 1st Edition, since when I first started with Hero System it was around the same time as the first release of The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe....which this image reminded me of.
  23. Came across this online: A look at some inventive uses of a multipower....Which I would guess require a 'Power/Skill Roll'....Sharing for nostalgia (mainly). Enjoy.
  24. This news about exoskeletons may have usages in other genres too....But seemed most appropriately shared here: http://japandailypress.com/panasonic-to-mass-produce-robotic-powered-suit-says-it-will-be-available-by-2015-0641893/ -Carl-
