  1. I'm working out a character based, in part, on "the protectors" assigned to the representatives of the Taelon species in Gene Roddenberry's "Earth: Final Conflict". While this might, in part, belong in the Star Hero forum since the character is going to be a "displaced Protector" (ie: slipped thru a hole from the Earth with the Taelon visitation to the campaign Earth) I thought I'd ask here..... Here are the specs I have at hand: 1) The characters in the series have a biological, semi-sentient weapon grafted onto their forearms (a "Skrill"). 2) They have what is refered to as "cyber-viral implants" placed within their skulls. These allow for, among other things enhanced memory and analytical abilities as well as being the only way to fire their Skrill. 3) They have received advanced martial arts training. All of those are easy enough to work out in game terms. What I'm looking for are any abilities those of you here who are familiar with the series might have noticed me overlooking. Thanks in advance for any help. -Carl-
  2. Re: The Grand meeting of Superheroes: The Nexus Well, even tho' he has yet to be fully realized, my gadgeteer/power armored guy (Sekko) would HAVE to sit down with the previously mentioned "smartest kids on the block" Tony Stark and Reed Richards, if only to swap calculus jokes. Add in Grimjack, since he's been just about everywhere/when so he'd have great stories. And Hal Jordan. Or virtually any of the GLC. After all, they take their sheer will and make it into something real. That is, after all, the ultimate goal of any inventor/gadgeteer isn't it ? So how could Sekko pass that up....Plus, as a "space nerd" (that's part of why he built the suit...) he'd love to hear travelogs about the various space sectors. Just my "first blush" response....Possibly more to follow. -Carl-
  3. Re: Batgirl: The Animated Series Hmmmm....Sounds like "Night Of The Comet" perhaps ? -Carl-
  4. Re: Can A Skill Level Be Linked To A Power ? Thanks.... -Carl-
  5. Re: Can A Skill Level Be Linked To A Power ? Shrug..... Looking for an FX and as an FX it's all in the playing anyway.... -Carl-
  6. Specifically, I am looking to build a martial artist who has a gravity based force field. Now, my thought is that as it is gravity based it might be in concept to state that the characters Acrobatics skill levels are drawn from the FF. And, obviously, if the FF goes down (lack of END or whatever) then the skill levels cannot be used.... Thanks. -Carl-
  7. Re: Can A Skill Level Be Linked To A Power ? Yeah...Actually, my first thought was to ask Mr long.... -Carl-

  9. Without providing any undue spoilers.... The power of Technopathy, as displayed in the film, is a pretty cool SFX for a VPP. Now, as far as generating such a character goes, what would the general concensus be regarding the following limitation: Costs END and level of source material determines END cost That is to say it would take less END to morph a DVD player than to morph a block and tackle set (after all, the pulley IS technology, albeit of a most basic sort). Opinions ?? -Carl-
  10. Re: Homebrew Organizations I'm working on developing: Royce International Basically a Wayne-Tech clone. Jonathon Royce was the hero Dark-Knight from the 1930's into the early 1970's. Although he passed away (natural causes/old age) his legacy lives on thru a bequest executed by his long time friend and co-hero Hippolyta. VERY long lived she has retired from the hero business (mostly ) and now, in addition to teaching at a major university in NYC, she observes and gauges new heros, providing them with financial support via a Royce Foundation annuity. This is, of course, all done "sub-rosa" with the Royce International board of directors knowing as little about the true nature of things as possible. -Carl-
  11. Re: Homebrew Organizations Developed for a campaign circa 1982-ish: Crimetech: Basically an organization derived from my reading of "The Adolesence Of P1" (tho' I should provide a slight nod to the Man From Uncle series as well). Crimetech believes in, basically, "Better (ie: more profitable) crime thru technology." High tech and generally non-violent. Would, on occassion, sell it's agents and/or expertise out to others, provided that "the council" approved. Each part of the US was divided into zones, which were controlled by the decisions of a board member. The council consisted of 10 members and a chairman. The chairman had the power to veto any activity taken by the members. The members were not "wiseguys" or thugs but more often heads of corporations, etc. The chairman was, however, answerable to a single higher authority referred to as "Control". Only the chairman interacted with control and had any solid knowledge of who (or what) he/she/it was or had planned...... As of the 1980's, Crimetech was strictly a US operation with little or no activity beyond that countries borders. It's been awhile since I looked at the groups stats so I can't give you much in the way of "mechanics". Sorry. Tho' I hope to revamp the group and add it to my "world background" for possible future use. If I do I'll attempt to post more here.
  12. Re: Dudes, I need help building a city. The "worldbook section" of Justice, Inc. mentioned the probabilty of an area around a place like The Empire Club having a "hero/adventure supply district" (or the like) spring up around the clubs location. Stores that sold outdoor gear, a gunsmith, etc. In my concept of what a "hero city" would be those sorts of things would almost have to exist as well. A dry cleaner who can handle "unstable molecule costumes"....That sort of stuff. Also, don't forget that museums in a supers world would probably have exibit halls or even whole wings devoted to para-humans, aliens, etc. A fine place for an origin story ("Young Joe Normal, while on a school trip to the American Museum Of Natural Historys' Hall Of Xeno-Biologies and Cultures, is exposed a previously dormant crystal sphere. The artifact is actually a storage device for the "justice energy" which defended a now dead world. Sensing Joes' purity of heart it chose him as its' new vessel, creating....") And I'd suspect that universities would be falling over themselves in the rush to get a super (active or retired) as a visiting lecturer...Imagine Wonder Woman presenting a graduate seminar in para-human ethics. I'd also add a major military/government base, such as a technology proving ground or flight test station (think Edwards AFB or White Sands) to allow for the government to keep tabs on things. Just my rambling $.02US. -Carl-
  13. Re: Dudes, I need help building a city. An aside, which might prove usefull in visualization: There was a quote in one of the local (NYC metro area) papers around the time the movie "Batman Begins" opened. The basic statement was that, if you look at NYC North to South, above around 18th-21st streets you have the sort of environment you might find in Metropolis (more modern, "brighter", etc) while from that point South towards Tribeca, the Battery, etc you get more of the feeling of Gotham (older, narrow streets, "darker", etc). Having spent last Saturday wandering "the city" I can definately see that interpretation. The article also mentioned how some of the "major supers" in the world (Spidey, The FF, etc) might be followers of particular sports teams (eg: Spidey = long suffering = Yankees fan). -Carl-
  14. A strange concept from one of the marketing graphics for "Batman Begins" came to me early today: Character has an attack mode where they dissolve into a huge swarm of bats. Basically the swarm then does a "move thru/bite" combo in an area and then resolidifies into the character. I'm obviously thinking of using Multiform, but being on the road without my BBB has me wondering if there is an easier and/or different way that general consensus would accept. Ideas ? -Carl- "What's that sound ?" "Backup."
  15. Re: Need Judge Dread's Lawgiver Stats At one point someone had done a BBB version of some of the world for the Judges....Can't recall the URL of the top of my brain stem tho'.... -Carl-
  16. Re: Theme Super Hero Teams Less a team but a "duet", based on terminology used to describe things perceived by the senses (from the pre-game history of my not yet run game universe ): Shimmer - light based powers Echo - sound based powers And yeah, I did steal a bit from "Cloak And Dagger"...... -Carl-
  17. Re: Telekinetic Staff/Sword ? Hmmmm. Nice and clean. And within the char concept, since virtually everything in "the suit" as I plan it will work in "modules" (eg: sensor package is distinct from movement package, etc). Thanks. Still working out how much of his powers are dependant on the handwave physics force field/TK system.....So the link issue may still rear it's head. -Carl-
  18. Re: Telekinetic Staff/Sword ?
  19. This might cross-over to the rules board but..... I'm building/re-building a character I had worked up a bit back and would like some input (ie: general concensus) on how to generate a specific effect. The character is, basically, a mechanically based telekenetic. His weapons of choice for close combat are a sword or staff, both generated from the powered armor suit he wears. That is, they act virtually indestinguishably from the same weapons that are made of matter except that they are "TK based force fields" in the shape of those items. So the question is, what's the accepted method for purchasing a weapon that dissapears if the END the char uses to power it runs out and that can't really be "taken away" from the char ? I'm presuming that the basic "Energy Blast - no range - gestures" combo would form the core. But what, if any, other limitations/disads/etc can anyone else think of ? BTW, I'm doing this regeneration without full access to my copies of the BBB/etc as I'm on the road for work. So if there is an obvious text based answer..... Thanks. -Carl-
  20. Re: Old School, Yesterday's Heroes First off, excellent storytelling. Brava, Brava !! And second, I can't help thinking of a background moment for a campaign I've been toying with: basically, daughter of "Superman type" and "Wonder Woman" type from the Golden Age (who is herself 53 but with slowed aging still looks in her twenties) marries another hero and they give birth to a daughter while "under fire" from a meglomanical (is there another kind ?) villain. Afterwards, the hero husband/father comments that he would willingly kill the villain who threatened his unborn/newborn daughter. To which his wife sharply responds "No! That's not what we do." Just my $.02US. And again, Brava!! -Carl-
  21. Re: Looking for A.I. Scenarios For a literary view of just this sort of scenario you might want to take a gander at the "Collossus" series by D.F. Jones (titles being, as I recall them: Collosus: The Forbin Project , The Fall Of Collossus , Collossus And The Crab). And yes, those are the source material for the 1970's film Collossus: The Forbin Project. In fact, even though I have no real proof of it, I suspect that the screenwriter was attempting a "passing nod" to the alien invasion subtext when, near the beginning of the film, Collossus retasks various deep space telescopes and begins to generate mountains of astronomical analysis. -Carl-
