  1. "Tahiti. It's a magical place." Asgardian healing, anyone?
  2. You may already have these talents in your build, but when I think of Dr Eppes and/or Dr Reid I almost automatically would give them: Eidetic Memory Speed Reading Lightning Calculator (especially Dr Eppes) Perhaps Cramming as well.......Maybe. Those are my 'first blush' thoughts. I shall dig through my files and see what else I might supply to a 'smartest guy in the room character build' (as I refer to such things). -Carl-
  3. Sharing this here....though I believe it would potentially have usefulness in other genres as well. http://gizmodo.com/the-aluminum-airship-of-the-future-has-finally-flown-1301320903 -Carl-
  4. With respect, I think that a case could be made for the acid blood to be used as a 'damage shield' as opposed to a 'straight attack'. It has some similarity to how the flaming body of the Human Torch (or similar beings) works. So rather than buying it as an attack I would build it, very basically, as follows: Damage Shield - with trigger [attack that does at least 1 body]. Because there is demonstrably some internal pressure that causes a spraying of the acid (seen most clearly in Aliens at/near the end of the initial, full squad reactor raid sequence....) it could be argued that the damage shield could have the 'range' advantage added as well...... My slightly delayed $.02US - based on 5th Edition (Revised) rules. Your mileage may vary. -Carl-
  5. I've seen Telefon. Very enjoyable. Though the 'sleepers' in that film were only 'one shot' situations. The NPC's I am considering have more of an 'on/off' situation available (eg: working day to day in cover persona, copy a few sensitive files to a flash drive without realizing or recalling it, then reporting in to their controller and delivering the item (again, with no recollection of the event) and returning to day to day function till they get their next assignment....) There is also a slight correlation with the sleeper placed by the Psi Corps in the SF television series Babylon 5, Talia Winters. Though again that iteration of the concept (see the notation in this link for details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talia_Winters ) is not precisely what I am shooting for.....
  6. Hmmmmm. BTW I forgot to mention, this build (like all my builds really) is in 5th Edition..... Back to the subject at hand - Multiform. I kind of like that path. A multiform with potentially mind control. And the 'normal' would have the disad 'no conscious control' effecting the multiform.....Yes. I see possibilities. Thanks!
  7. I'm toying with working up some agents for one of my NPC villains and, while I know I could just design them under a GM fiat saying 'That's just how they are..." the hard core gamer part of me wonders about how to accomplish the following effect: Simply put, these agents would be much akin to (in fact they are inspired by) the 'sleeper' type of Cylons we see in the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. At the basic level, they would have no memory of serving their controller and might even have their mind fabricate 'false memories' to explain missing time, etc. I would presume that they would, in the main, be somewhat immune to being exposed by a hero mind scanning them because they would fully believe that any 'excuse memories' created are real. So....That is, at its most basic, the effect I want to emulate. Any suggestions on builds? Thanks. -Carl-

  9. Re: Multipower Variable Slots, ever use one? Guess I buck the trend: I hardly ever buy an Ultra in a Multipower. Always Multies. Especially when I am building powered armor based characters. (As an aside, I've been playing Champions/Hero system since the early 1980's....So I may have developed my habit(s) based on that initial iteration of the rules and just never changed.....YMMV.) -Carl-
  10. The subject line says most of it....I'm attempting to sift through a couple dozen USB drives and re-re-re-collate all the Hero stuff I have here in the 'near Arctic'. Most of my hardcopy gaming stuff is in storage in the lower 48 but over the last few days I find myself suffering a 'Jones' for (at minimum) some gaming reading and universe tinkering.....And somehow Star*Guard has fallen into the mental equation(s).......shrug. Thanks in advance for any assistance. -Carl-
  11. Re: Sci-Fi Melee Weapons: Bat'leth, Lirpas, Lightsabres, Rykk Blades, Koltari, Denn'B In the realm of B5 weapons (and with thanks to the ever useful Internet Wayback Machine) you may want to take a gander here for a snapshot of a page from the Starherofandom website prior to the various hacker attacks : http://web.archive.org/web/20080424131449/http://www.starherofandom.com/b5/weapons.php It includes stats for melee weapons the Denn'Bok, the Narn Katak, and the Centauri Coutari.... Worth a gander.....IMNSVHO. EDIT: Oh, BTW, don't forget to take a look at the martial arts styles page as well......you'll find a snapshot of it from the same date as the above link at: http://web.archive.org/web/20080424130440/http://www.starherofandom.com/b5/martial_arts.php -Carl-

  13. Saw this online and, while it also has applicability to other genres as well, the coin toss of where to post it came up here.....so take a gander: http://phys.org/news/2012-12-quantum-stealth-material-invisible.html From the article: "...."Groups now know that it works and does so without cameras, batteries, lights or mirrors... It is lightweight and quite inexpensive. Both the U.S. and Canadian military have confirmed that it also works against military infra-red scopes and thermal optics," he said. Cramer has announced the Quantum Stealth material as "light-bending material," which is "non-powered adaptive camouflage that portrays what is behind the user in-front of the user bending the light around the target." ..." A website for the company in question: http://www.hyperstealth.com/Quantum-Stealth/index.html And yes, I agree. It seems potentially.....sketchy....but even if it's a scam/hoax/whatever I think it's still a cool gaming hook..... -Carl-
  14. Re: Conspiracy Theory: Who was really behind the destruction of Detroit? Stolen.....and repped. -Carl-
  15. Re: Teen Spy Campaigns Not precisely teen spies but still.....one of my favorite mid 1980's films (especially as it drew some of it's inspiration from the live action game of the era "Killer" (AKA "Assasin"....AKA "Circle Of Death")..... Plus Linda Fiorentino.....sigh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm9oMGJDY-8 EDIT: okay....so you can't just click on it here...you have to watch this directly on YouTube.....sigh.... Oh, and here is a Wiki page about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotcha!_%281985_film%29 -Carl-
  16. Re: Conversion - M&M to Hero 5th(revised) Herrmn....Well remember, I'm looking at a 5th Ed(revised) conversion.....Not a 6th. -Carl-
  17. Re: Conversion - M&M to Hero 5th(revised) I think (just based on an initial glance and review) that I'd go for the former version rather than the later.....In part (I think) because the ability has some slight echoes of a modified Berserk and so should be handled as a Talent (or similar) rather than a Power. Also, the build in question has some additional echoes of the old Danger International martial art ability/move 'Multiple Attack' (I think that was its name I don't have my copy of the text at hand (it = Arkansas while Me = Alaska)) and as such might best be served as a Talent/Martial move......IMNSVHO of course. -Carl-
  18. Re: More space news! http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2012-11/what-earth-shaking-evidence-did-mars-rover-curiosity-just-find Intriguing! -Carl-
  19. Re: The Red Queen Effect and Superhumans There was a second season episode of STNG that obliquely addressed this point. In the episode, researchers tweaked the genes of some children so that their immune systems would be, in a word: predatory. They would seek out any potential infection and eradicate it, even at a distance. The immunity effects expanded their purview and caused the 'normals' around them to die.....Now, it might be possible to view Wolverines immunity/healing factor in a similar manner. If we work from that hypothesis and then, using comic book logic, let us suppose his healing factor became 'airborne'..... Thoughts? -Carl-
  20. Re: Conversion - M&M to Hero 5th(revised) Must. Spread. Rep......sigh. Thanks! -Carl-
  21. I recently (before the server crash) had a post here about building a gadget for one of my "Rogues Gallery" of NPC villains for my Team Norfolk universe. Her nom' de' crime is Jester and part of her schtick is a penchant for chaos. She sometimes (often(???)) makes use of a 'gadget' that looks like a large frame automatic pistol and that could be referred to as a 'chaos pistol': when she fires it, things happen. But even she doesn't know for certain what (After all, where would the fun be in that??). It could create a huge hole in the ground to swallow up a hero....or it could just as likely fire off a stream of rainbow colored flower petals...... What I'm looking for are suggestions to add to the 'pool' of ideas for what will/might happen when she fires the darn thing.....Feel free to go as crazy as she is with this. But remember that this (my campaign/universe) is a classic 250pt starting level using 5th edition(revised). (VERY basic details on the char are spoilered below - just in case any potential Team Norfolk players might be reading this - but in case such info might help with any build suggestions) Thanks all! -Carl-
  22. So I was, basically speaking, recently gifted with a huge pile of Mutants and Masterminds info. Which I am totally grateful to have. But I would love to be able to use some of the stuff as adjuncts to my Team Norfolk universe, which is built with HERO 5th edition (revised) (and with some smattering of earlier editions as well....After all, what is a super-world without Plasmoid? Or Cancer?.....but I digress....). However my search-fu here on the forums seems to be failing me since I cannot find any threads about converting from M&M to FRED.....But I have a pretty solid memory that I HAVE seen such a thread (or threads).....Can anyone point me in the correct direction? Thanks!! -Carl-
  23. Since I have not seen it posted anywhere else on the forums....and since I think it has some gaming potential.....Take a gander: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfJVgXBfSH8 It's a five part 'micro-series'....And all five parts are up and running......Worth a look, IMNSVHO. Yep. -Carl-
