    Cowardice.

The doctrine is to go in and engage ASAP, and not to wait for backup.

The new issue weapon isn't a ray gun, and won't change the doctrine.

These people were simply cowards with poor leadership.

You may be over-estimating how easy it is to get the equipment.

You can order a drone online and have it shipped to your door.  I'm not sure how hard it would be to find the recipes for simple explosives, but it's clearly not impossible.

A firearm either requires dealing with a licensed dealer or finding someone to sell you something off-the-books.  Neither being quite as simple as point and click.  (and on-book is a little harder now for the 18-20 set with the additional gun control legislation that passed following Uvalde)

I think he meant, most influenced politically by the right-wing turn in the US.

But what you point out is absolutely true. Alberta has more in common culturally with Montana than with Ontario, while Atlantic Canada resembles New England. It's long been observed by many people, that North America would make more sense divided up vertically rather than horizontally.

House is back in session.  The forms are underway;  right now it's the nominating speech for McCarthy.  There'll be one for Jeffries;  that's pro forma.  The interesting moment is if one of the holdouts puts forth a nomination...be it Trump or one of their little squad.

EDIT:  nasty barb tossed out during the Jeffries nomination speech.  The last line:  "For justice and truth, and for the lives lost on Jan. 6th, I nominate Hakeem Jeffries."

    No one else got nominated.

    EDIT 2:  Biggs votes Jordan.
Boebert votes PRESENT.  That means, unless she changes it, the total number of cast votes, and thus the threshold, changes.  That's a huge change.

EDIT 3: Crane and Good vote against McCarthy, so that's 3 of the 6.  Gaetz does not respond.  I suspect he's gonna grandstand, because the vote could come down to him.  I think it's that close.

The minority party is easily united.  The majority party is easily fractured.

This would be amusing, if there were any real unity among Democrats. In the absence of a powerful Republican threat, Democrats almost invariably fall to vicious attacks against other Democrats who aren't as enlightened (or aren't enlightened in exactly the same way) as they are.

I don’t disagree with this, and it’s also in our strategic interest. That’s a compelling reason why it’s Ukraine (as a way to degrade Russian power) as opposed to Ethiopia or Myanmar.

I would be in support of this action whether it’s Biden, Trump, Obama or GW Bush. It’s a rare opportunity to do the right thing and also advance national military and geopolitical interests for a relatively modest cost (to us, anyway). It’s unfortunate we are so polarized that isn’t good enough anymore.

It's just good to have these points ready, for when the subject inevitably comes up with our relatives/friends/coworkers/etc.

Because helping fellow human beings who are being attacked and killed by a foreign invader who wants to conquer them, just doesn't seem to cut it for a lot of people any more.

It will likely take years to reach SCOTOS.  That is if it ever does.  However, being decided by a lesser court is still being decided by a court.

Paul is right.  It is an executive action.  If you look at the legislative tracker given by the your link, it list the bills status as being "Introduced".  It hasn't even been voted on, much less passed by the House and the Senate. So, Biden may have used this bill as the template for his executive action, but that doesn't make it a law.

As for whether or not the executive action is unconstitutional, that is for the courts to decide.

My bitterness aside about my state I should say that you can find a lot of good folk here. Unfortunately, I sometimes feel their voices are quelled by our state leaders and an angry mean minority

I think Patty Jenkins problem is that she's a good director, but not a good writer.

...then Patty goes and kills her career by going full Karen on her former bosses at DC. Sending Peter Safran the Wikipedia definition of Character Arc in an Email was not the wisest choice.

He won’t be Bond for the same reason he walked away from The Witcher. Ms. Broccoli who inherited the head chair from her late father Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, has said in interviews, the she sees the next Bond, is having to be “more in touch with his emotions “. This is just another way of saying “updated for a modern audience.”  Once again a female executive strikes a blow against Toxic Masculinity in entertainment, when Masculinity, toxic or not is precisely why I watch a Bond film.

Cavill’s removal from the Superman Role was not James Gunn’s decision as much as it was Zaslov’s, due to Cavill’s salary requirements, and Zaslov wanting to slash production budgets and find new, unknown actors to keep costs down. Cavill’s not being Superman is a shame, and the focus on Superman’s early years, looks like yet another retelling of his origins.  I really don’t want to see any other origins retold yet again for legacy characters.  I want to see a story of a Superhero in their prime, performing their heroism, and challenging Villains we haven’t seen before in thee movies,  and maybe using a story from the pages of a comic?

My older brother Joel died yesterday.  He had been suffering from RSV for weeks and suddenly he just was gone.  I know none of you know him or probably even care but he was the world to me.   He was the one who got me into role playing games.  He taught me to love the blues and Pat Metheny.  He provided for me and housed me for decades when my health failed.  He was my biggest fan, supporter, and promoter for my writing.  I love him so much and I miss him so badly it hurts so much I can hardly breathe right.  Everywhere I go, everything I see brings back a flood of memories and emotions and it is so hard to take.

I just need to say something about him here because the whole world should have known my dear brother Joel Aaron Taylor.  I want to shout it to the universe, I want everyone to know how wonderful he is and how much I miss him.

Thank you for your patience with me.

Wednesday: It's cute, but not what I expected at all. That character is not Wednesday Addams in any previous incarnation. It's good to see Gwendolyn Christie getting so much geek work.

Rings of Power: I'm having a hard time finishing this. To call it slow is a dangerous understatement. The director really loves their slo-mo and music cferscendos. It's not a movie, it's a series. Figure your pacing out. (And where the hell did all those horses come from?)

No offense taken.  I don't belong to either party, so I can usually find at least some fault with both - even if I can sometimes have an easier time understanding one over the other regardless of whether or not I agree.

My favorite quote about being of the same coin actually comes from an old Champions supplement.  "... might be differ'nt sides of the same coin, but they ain't the same side."  (more or less, I'm too lazy to go digging for the book right now)

I think we need to start wanting the opposition party to, well, be better. Run better candidates. Not Walker, Oz, Trump. More moderation, less cult like behavior.

While I’m wishing, why don’t we move towards civility while we are at it? And hey, what’s the lottery at now?

Anyway, I too want to never see him run for office again. Trump is, exactly as you say, poison. He’s absolutely willing to put himself before the very institutions he swears to uphold. We need less of that in public service.

Benedict Donald is running again. Dammit.

I don't think this is the best news the democrats can get. I really don't. This guy is poison and yet still has far too large a chunk of the American population following him like cultists. Only this time he's got 'his people' planted deeper than before, and the Supreme Court has at least one judge whose wife is so deep into supporting the Jan 6 riots its scary.  Every time in 2016, folks were like 'oh now Trump goes down' or 'Trump will never win the primaries... and every time, he didn't. And he won the primary, and the democrats patted themselves on the back because how could ANYONE vote for this clown.

And they did vote for him. And the Electoral College got him the win. I know Desantis is smarter than Trump. It's not about smart. It's about worship of a man who is the golden calf incarnate. Everytime the liberals assume Trump is done, they end up paying a price and Trump is still untouched. He lost the presidency, and we thought 'thank god that's over' only for Jan 6 sedition to start up over the great lie, people died, and hey.. .Trump's still free from bars for his sedition, and 61% of registered Republicans still believe the votes were rigged or 'may have been'. They're not going to change their mind in 2 years. And Trump will use his run in 2024 to say any legal action brought against him is just a political stunt.

And now he's running again, and so many voices are clapping with glee like 'oh well, stick a fork in him , he's done THIS time'

I am so tired of watching that mindset bite us in the ass.
