  1. Re: How can Superheroes be deputized? Isn't it "cruel and unusual", not "cruel or unusual"? I don't know, my memory says the former. In that case, even if we're talking about sentencing, you can be unusual if you're not cruel - and vice versa.
  2. Re: WWYCD? The Trap What Korren said. Also, no worries about scavengers, the only thing in that pit is charcoal. Vultures don't go for charcoal.
  3. Re: 10 seconds of Godlike knowledge... There's another thread in the Hero Systems area, "Working Precognition" that's got good stuff. However, this is only 10 seconds worth and by golly, I was wondering about this weeks ago!
  4. What Powers would a guy have, if his only power was certain knowledge of the future - for 10 seconds ahead? His knowledge is purely local, he only knows what he would know 10 seconds later. He can change the future - like Maud Dib (whatever!) could, he sees a tapestry of varying futures that flow outward from whatever he does. I've got a list of things he could do, but don't want to quash creativity. A few of the obvious ones (to get the ball rolling) are: Wealth (perfect gambler in some games) Reputation (keep that guy out of my casino) Seduction (knows good pickup lines from bad) crazy yet limited Danger Sense etc. Could a normal human like this be a playable character?
  5. Re: Summon a friend "Only on humanoids" might not be limiting, given the other limits placed on it. Unless you have allies that aren't humanoid...? The "only bring someone adjacent" idea could be your definition of a fixed teleport location. You'll be limited to a normal human weight and size, unless you buy that up. You probably don't have gigantic or massive allies, I suppose. Finally, there is also a Gate power build that allows you to do this too. It's different, you can throw stuff through it and enemies can come through too. I mention it in case you didn't see it.
  6. Re: Affects Solid World Or if your character concept has him using STR anywhichway (yes, it's one word where I come from), he has to purchase a reasonable set of Powers with Affects Solid World tacked on. Pretty expensive concept.
  7. Re: Thoughts on Images The Detect also needs RSR: Concealment, Side Effect: Target Perceivable by Radio Sense. It's a neat power, but not all that game-breaking. GM's know that bugs get detected, knocked off, and even maliciously misplaced.
  8. It's not my fault, I blame ghost-angel! He brought it up first! OK, so if we are going to discuss brain hemorages, how do you build it? Say Mr. Cold earned enough xp to power up his "Brain Freeze!" power, now it bursts blood vessels! How about: 4d6 RKA, not against brainless or bloodless victims (-1/4), NND (+1, not vs. thermal headgear), Does Body (+1), Gradual Effect (1 minute, -1/2), No Knockback (-1/4): 180 AP, 90 CP Now THAT'S a Brain Freeze! Suggestions, slams, improvements, comments?
  9. Re: What would you trade for wealth? Never make a deal with a genie. If it's that powerful, why is it bothering with you? Sure, sure "it has to" - don't you think it could have easily planted that story, so it could enjoy feeding off of stupid, greedy mortals who willing give it up? The only safe wish (if given the opportunity) is "I wish nothing changed in past, present or future other than we'd never met and any repercussions thereof."
  10. Re: Gravity is gone? I think being 1.69m higher than normal could be a very big deal, if you imagine that the ocean is doing that. When gravity returns, there will be an enormous "slosh", bigger than anything we've experienced. Of course, the oceans might not rise that much at the equator, it's very complicated. What will fill the 'void' left by the uprising water? I don't know.

  12. Re: Gravity is gone? Dang. That's one sloooowww doomsday device!
  13. Re: Gravity is gone? Thank you so very much for the intelligent reply! I'm swayed to believe that not much would happen if gravity disappeared for a second, but I have a nitpick - I'm sure the Kelvin-Helmholtz timescale takes into consideration the force of gravity, since I'm sure it is a scholarly work done right. We're considering a lack of gravity. Still, there is an enormous amount of matter to move, and the Sun is a really, really large body. I never thought it would nova, but thought there might be the mother of all coronal mass ejections. We ARE talking about ringing the Sun like a bell, so I'm sure SOMETHING measurable would happen... but we wouldn't see it until it crawled up from the layer of fusion to the surface. That's likely too long for a doomsday device to wait.
  14. Re: Gravity is gone? OK, read up on free-fall time. That's good for when nuclear fuel is exhausted. So if gravity force = nuclear pressure, then nuclear pressure alone would accelerate the outer layers away from the center at 1 Solar G. I don't know what that is at the layer fusion occurs, but I'm guessing it's >10g (Earth G). That means the outer layers could move 160' during the first second. I'm betting there would be one hell of a B A N G !!! when it all collapsed in again. After a time, the shock wave would hit the surface & throw off, at a minimum, the biggest solar storm ever seen. At a maximum, there might be a thin outer shell ejected.
  15. Re: Gravity is gone? For the Sun, I was thinking (not knowing about the free-fall time by name) that for 1 second, the outward pressure of all those nuclear reactions would be free to shove the outer layers without them shoving back (excepting inertia). Since the outer layers are normally shoving back so hard that the pressures are great enough to cause fusion, I imagined that there would be one hell of an imbalance once gravity was removed. F=mA, and normally at a point inside the Sun F=(pressure from explosions) - (gravity pulling in a bunch of gas). Since that point isn't really going anywhere, F=0 so those two forces are equal (I know, I said that already!). Anyway, I figured there would be a hell of an expansion at the layer where things normally go boom. By "hell" I mean ... I don't know, maybe 100'. That expansion would cool off that layer, and the rate of boom would drop some. Then when gravity came on again, the upper stuff would come crashing down & start the boom again - with a significant transient BOOM. I'll go read up on free-fall time, but I'm doubting it addresses a mysterious loss of gravity.
  16. Re: Gravity is gone? At the equator, people (and other things) move at about 1,000 mph. They are 4,000 miles from the center of the Earth. So in 10 seconds, they travel 2.78 miles in a straight line. The surface of the Earth also moves, but it's (presumably) curving and dropping out from under the unlucky sap. Using the Pythagorean theorem, the sap will be 4,000.001 miles from the center of the Earth, while the surface is still (we hope) 4,000. So he'll see the surface drop 0.001 miles out from under him - that's about 5'. It seems like no one will be flung off into space.
  17. Re: Gravity is gone? Extra credit - how bad would it be if you did the same thing to the Sun, say for 1 second? !!!!!
  18. OK, so here's an idea for a doomsday device but I need help filling in the details. 1) There's a way to warp space so we can create artificial gravity (rubber science) 2) It's cool, spaceships can fly around really fast 3) But it's not cool - you can flatten out a gravity well also. There's the doomsday device, and my question. What happens if you remove gravity from the Earth for 10 seconds? I'm guessing cars fly upwards from compressed springs, the equatorial oceans slosh (not sure how much), pressure is released from the Earth's crust (earthquakes?), that sort of thing. But how bad would it be?
  19. Re: "Berserker" character I thought he was a Normal with the Disad: Psychotic Delusions of Superpowers.
  20. Re: For a *fresh* look at some of our faves. not safe for work.
  21. Re: Need a really good Marshal Artist Build Buy 60pts worth of Combat Luck - that'll make her tough. Of course, she's still "normal" and can be killed easily by surprise or when asleep. So load up on Danger Sense and either Lightsleep or Life Support: Doesn't Sleep. Next, give her loads of martial arts damage classes. Specify they use Cat's Claws, but don't buy them as a Power - it's a special effect, and is never taken away from her. Don't forget to add in some ranged attack, like shuriken. Then make sure she's got loads of movement. Superleap is good, but don't forget limited Flying - Only when able to bounce off stuff. She'll need a sense that no one can block or cloud with images - try N-Ray Vision, not tied to any sense group. It'll cost a lot, but it'll be worth it to always "see" and never be flashed. Use the rest of your points for defenses against every possible attack: 1pt of invisible Armor & FF (for those nasty NNDs), Power Def, Mental Def. Season with Life Support, and you are good to go!
  22. Re: Batman's Origin Story But Batman couldn't get close to hurting Superman, because Batman isn't magically strong! Of course, Superman isn't that susceptible to magic, he only faked losing to Captain Marvel. And Thor? as if! Poser!!
  23. Re: Death Owes Me a Favor Extradimensional Movement, to plane where no-one dies.
  24. Re: Incremental End Cost? I'm just a bystander in this discussion, but wondered if there would be any repercussions to this proposed change because we can have naked advantages. Is is legal to have naked adders?
