I do like the consistency in the Russian election interference narrative.

Now, apparently, it is Russian bots that caused the destruction of Kamala Harris by Tulsi Gabbard to trend...  pffft.  And here I thought it was just a sick burn that drew actual applause when it happened.

The DNC is going to have their own Trump moment if they don't improve their game.  Politics as usual isn't working for the electorate any more.

*Shrug*  Something can be a sick burn that gets a fair amount of tweets on its own merits and also get further amplification from bots.  It is not cool having the Russians meddle in our elections even if some of the information they spread is the truth.  Moreover, Twitter needs to find a way to purge itself of bots, even the advertising.  This would make the platform much less harmful, annoying and as a side benefit keep people from hiding behind claims of bots when opinion just doesn't go their way,

I still haven't seen Annihilation.  The trailers didn't inspire me to watch.  Was it any good?

"Good" is such a subjective term. ;)  I will say that it's very well executed: visually stunning and imaginative, compellingly acted, effective at conveying wonder and fear, and often thought-provoking implying deep themes and concepts. But it's also creepy as Hell, frequently disturbing to watch, and leaves you confused as to what it was all about (which I suspect was intentional). Certainly not for everyone.

EDIT: FWIW most of the lead cast are women, taking on the kind of roles usually played in thrillers by men.

Strong parallels with Lovecraft's The Colour Out of Space, but updated for modern times and modern imaginations.

Hmmm.....a new Bond is coming out and is a girl and now you guys are referring to a Jane Foster Thor. (Now I don’t read allot of comics so JFT could been a comic thing) The timing though seems like....bandwagon. Btw I have no problem with the Falcon becoming a new Capt. America.

No, Bond will continue to be Daniel Craig.  Lashana Lynch will be playing a different spy who is given the 007 designation after Bond chooses to retire.  I've yet to come across anyone who thinks that Bond will stay retired or that Lynch's character will keep the 007 position.  Indeed, pretty much everyone thinks she will be shot.

Back when currency was exchangeable for precious metals it was worth a LOT more.

We wouldn't even be having minimum wage discussions if currency was still tied to precious metals.  An old silver dollar has about $12.30 worth of silver in it.  How would you like to be earning a minimum wage of... $92.25/hour?

I'd take that deal in a minute.  :)

So would have people back then, but most common labors were "dollar a day men".  So, how would you like to be paid $12.30 for a days work?

For movie purposes, Kang should do just as well as V'han. Since the MCU is always redefining their classic comic characters, nothing is stopping them from adding some of Istvatha's sympathetic qualities to Kang.

Except dimension travel > time travel.

Really, I liked how they handled time travel in Endgame, but even so listening to the endless complaints of people who just didn't get it cast a pall on the experience.  For me, one of the enjoyments of geek movies is the online experience of talking about it afterward.  It is chance to be part of my tribe.  However, it turns out that a sizable chunk of my tribe doesn't know how to handle it when time travel doesn't work the same way that it does in the time travel movies that they are familiar with.   I find myself wanting to tell them that it isn't that complicated, that other people have already done a fine job explaining why the things they are calling plot-holes aren't in fact plot-holes, and to stop being so stubbornly dense.

What I am saying is that it gets old, and for that reason I don't want another MCU movie with time travel.

Edit: Though I do agree that Feige and company would probably do a better job making Kang interesting than the comics for the most part have done.

It's thing like that "right now" comment that remind me you don't actually live here.

I have to say, I have mixed feelings about this.  No; I'm not looking to discuss it.  At the moment, they are a bit too complicated to actually put into words anyway.   Let's just say that sometimes a justified victory can set some scary precedents for times down the road.

Libel has been against the law since 130 AD.  No precedents scary or otherwise were set by this case.  All that happened was that the courts enforced laws that have been part of American jurisprudence since the very founding of the republic.  They did not enforce the law in any new or novel way.  If anything at all is new here, it is the brazenness of disregard for truth by publishers that really should know better.

Though I'll admit I see the Flash do stunts that are worse - all the time - and somehow not instantly vaporize someone by punching them full force while moving faster than a bullet.

Taking a rough guess at the Flash's weight he's roughly 1000x the weight of a 9mm bullet.  The energy transfer would vaporize mere mortals.

The Flash makes a lot more sense (though of course, it still doesn't really make sense) if you assume that he travels in a bubble of speed force.  This explains why people he grabs aren't ripped to shreds.  Since they are in his speed force bubble, they only experience it as Barry Allen grabbing them not as the supersonic Flash grabbing them.  It also explains why he sometimes gets punched non-speedster foes.  By getting close enough to melee them he can accidentally include them in his speed force bubble allowing them to deal with him on equal speed terms.

I want Shang-Chi to use the Gulacy stories with him as an MI-6 agent alongside Reston, Tarr, Lei-ko and Sir Dennis. I want Fu Manchu and to hell with the Chinese market. But I know money talks and this is highly unlikely.

It is possible for a character to be both a hateful stereotype and a great character in their own right.  It is just a matter of whether you view the character as typical representative of the group in question or as an individual with little in common with most members of the group.  Fu Manchu is definitely one of these characters; a literary villain right up their with Professor Moriarty but also the very face of yellow peril racism. With an Asian director, writer and star, they could probably get away with recognizable likeness of Fu Manchu as the villain. However, I doubt an Asian director, writer and star would want have anything to do with that project.

Ehhh, it's a big reach.  The trailer for Spider-Man shows him in a scene with all his friends...so conveniently  everyone he knew is also 5 years behind?  Big plot hole IMO.  Also, as I mentioned before, so Cap just did nothing but hide in his house for 70 years?  While in a relationship with the co-founder of SHIELD he stood by and allowed it to be taken over by HYDRA again?

There were several other questions like these that dampened my enjoyment somewhat.  Hopefully Spider-Man will explain many issues with the aftermath of Endgame (timeline is still massively broken, 3- 4 billion beings now dumped back on the planet after 5 years, etc. as I've heard that it is actually the end of phase 3.  Overall still a great movie though.

Am I the only person who that thought that Aunt May at the funeral looked notably older than when we last saw her in Homecoming?
