Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn . . . who's going to be paying attention to Rosie Perez as Montoya? :P

*Raises hand*  "Me, me, me, me!!!"

Just thinking about the sex scene from Do The Right Thing still gets me a little twitterpated.  Also, I like women around my own age.  I am funny that way.

Well, he looks like this in the comics now:

And given that Henry Zaga is Brazilian, I'd say they matched him up pretty well.

Certainly not how I remember the character, but okay, if that is his current look, then I guess maybe we should give the movie one a pass.  However, apparently the woman in charge is suppose to be Dr. Cecelia Reyes.  Did she get a skin bleaching in the comics too?

That's where I get that maybe instead of doing the godlike being of power, switch him back to the jounalist first, superhero second character. You could even back down his power level some (maybe close to Shazam's). I would LOVE to see them do a movie where most of it he and Lois are actually doing the work of reporters. His advantages just adding to it, especially as she knows who he is. Part of the "Women First" pendulum swing, to me, is that they took that away from him and made it so Lois is that and he just rescues her. Even Reeves did some of it. the Lois and Clark show was really good at it. It would even allow you to cut down on costs, if he wasn't having to be Superman for 75% of the movie. You could use Intergang (I do not want to see a Lex Luthor again for a bit) as a villain.

On a different tack, I am avoiding the Crisis thread, as I plan to record and binge watch it, but one thing that hit me. If you combine all the "universes" including Black Lightning (though stories say that one won't be there), how does the DEO, Argus and ASA settle who has jurisdictions.

I am not convinced that they are necessarily planning ending with a single universe.  That is where the comic book went with it, but latter DC went back to having a multiverse.  Multiverses are just fun, so why throw away a perfectly good one.

However, if they do go to a single universe, their will probably be only super watchdog organization, and as far as most people are concerned that will be as it always has been.  Personally, I would go with Argus for that role since I can envision both Alex Danvers and Odell working for different divisions of Argus, but I can't envision them in each others organizations.

I refuse to believe any of it.  I've seen enough news and political rallies to know that it is absolutely impossible to kill someone without a gun.

If the terrorist had a gun, instead of killing two people, he would have killed ten or more.  Certainly, a couple of guys with a narwhal horn and a fire extinguisher wouldn't have slowed him down much.  This incident with its low body count makes a much better argument for the advantages of gun control than an argument against it.

Finished season 2 of Black Lightning. PG is right, BL is just a better show than Batwoman.

If they are only up to episode 7 (or so) and need a Kate-is-not-Batwoman-because-double then Batwoman is incompetent as a Bat-superhero.

No, if they are past episode 3 and none of the heroes loved ones have figured out their secret, then the NPCs are overly stupid or are just being asked to carry the idiot ball too much.

  6. I rather liked this episode.  Her time in costume was brief, but at least she got to kick some serious butt during that time.  Speaking of the costume, now that she is in the Batwoman costume and not simply the refitted Batman costume, IMHO she looks pretty good.  As for the road trip, obviously the idea was give us some of Alice's origin,  and I felt the scenes with child actors went pretty well.  Though, while Alice and Mouse are fine, I am hoping that they introduce the Religion of Crime from the comics.  Alice strikes me more as a mid-tier boss than an end game boss, so I am hoping for a villain switch after the winter break.

She did not invite her out on a mission.

She invited her out to where the mission was going to be.

IIRC, when she invited her, she didn't yet know that the mission would be be there.  Though she did know by the time of the date, so she could have arranged to cancel.

Gabbard fits the profile for a 3rd party spoiler candidate, one who damages the Democratic nominee in two ways; first, by attacking the Dem nominee from the ostensible left(sometimes from the center, as "too extreme"); second, by siphoning away a few votes in key battleground states.

She may fit the profile, but I can see the backfiring on them.  Gabbard is only polling around 2%, and given Gabbard's status as the favorite Democrat of Trump supporters, how many of those 2% were a really gung ho to vote Democrat anyway?  She could, maybe, hurt to Democrats by giving Never Trump Republicans someone to vote for other Democratic nominee. However, she could just as easily, give Republicans who can't bring themselves to ever vote Democrat (particularly if a progressive like Warren or Sanders is nominated) someone to vote for other than Trump.  This is especially relevant in the likely event that the Senate refuses to remove Trump, but the impeachment process digs up enough dirt that all but "ride or die" Trump supporters abandon him.

In the audio HRC clearly says, "She's a favorite of the Russians".

'I'm not making any predictions,' Clinton said, 'but I think they've got their eye on somebody who's currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third party candidate. She's a favorite of the Russians. They have a bunch of sites and bots and other ways of supporting her so far.'

Not sure why Hillary even cares about Tulsi at this point.  Tulsi was trending under 2% until the Hillary - Russian thing bumped her - briefly - into the 5% range and resulted in a lot of free attention.

Yes, she did say that the person that she believed was being groomed by the Republicans for a third party run was a "favorite of the Russians".  That is not the same as saying that person was being groomed by the Russians.  That is saying the person being groomed by the Republicans, also happens to be a favorite of the Russians.

The show is getting straight up mauled on Rotten Tomatoes:

If that audience score is accurate, then Batwoman's ratings will totally tank and it won't come back after winter break.  OTH, if the low audience score is just the work of sad boys deliberating trying to tank the show because it is about a lesbian superhero, then the ratings will likely stay decent by CW standards and the show will carry on.  Time will tell.

    It should.

Pulling out of the endless quagmire of wars in the Middle East should earn any politician the support of both parties.

We have a very bad track record when it comes to regime change.  It generally results in something worse than what was already there.

How about America takes care of America and other countries put on their big boy pants and take care of themselves.

We have no business constantly meddling in the wars of other countries.  Unless you count military-industrial-complex profits.

Walking away from allies and leaving them to be slaughtered ... is just incredibly messed up.

Looking outward to the world and at times taking up international burdens has increased US strength and made the world a better and safer place.  I know it doesn't seem  that way when you watch news, but the last 70 years have been some of the most peaceful years the world has ever seen.  Unfortunately, peace is not considered very news worthy.  When a dictator looks at a vulnerable neighboring country and decides not to invade out concerns over how the US or NATO might react, this generates no headlines.  Yet, we know by looking at the numbers that countries invading their neighbors plummeted during the American Century.  This has created an international environment where both the US and the world have flourished.

If America First becomes our doctrine going forward and not just an aberration of the Trump administration,  mark my words, the US and world as a whole will suffer as a result of our inaction.

Safely assume Leto's at this point.

I am not so sure.  They are doing a lot of recasting right now, and Leto's Joker was not well received.  I think they could easily bring someone new into the role.  Though, ultimately I get the impression that Margo Robbie is calling the shots on BOP and the Joker will likely be played by whoever she wants in the role.  Maybe they will get Keira Knightley, I hear she has range.*

    * - just j/k, it is a Deadpool reference

Was going to say the same thing. The Harley they are portraying is almost straight out of her solo run in a lot of ways. As I said above, my problem is that I detest the version of the Joker she was with. I really would have liked to see her play this Harley off of Ledger's Joker, which I believe would have worked well. They both have that rational casual crazy that works, her a little more hyper, which fits. When I watch her, I could totally see the Ledger scene with the pencil and her in the background laughing after.

I can see that, but Ledger is dead and no one else is going to want to do his Joker because nobody wants the inevitable non-flattering comparisons.

As for who this Joker is, we don't know.  The IMDB cast list doesn't show anyone playing the role in BOP.  So either there is no Joker in this movie or it is likely going to as yet uncredited cameo performance.  We will just have to wait and see.
