  1. Re: Nigh invulnerability and Overconfidence Just as a sidenote, from the description you proivde, I would argue that your character is not truly fearless for the same reason that Superman is (most of the time) not really a hero. Both know that nothing can hurt them. Thus, there is no bravery involved. It's like going to get a gallon of milk out of the fridge. Nothing dangerous. I always imagined fearless as being "I acknowledge that I could easily die, but I won't let that stop me." That isn't true for you character, or Superman. Unless Superman KNOWS Kryptonite will be involved. What's your character's excuse?
  2. Re: SciFi Colonists A wide skill range. Manpower and resources will be limited, so people who can be electricians and doctors, engineers and soldiers, farmers and mechanics........ will be valuable.
  3. Re: Running a riot? I have to disagree on the "use of obvious powers" making things worse. Unless the rioters were specificaly rioting AGAINST supers (freaks, mutants, other hate foci etc) then I think that this COULD be an effective tactic. Even against mobs that are oppossed to those with powers, it would work, it would just need to be more extreme. The key is HOW the power/force is applied. If they knock down one or two people, or even five or ten, that's going to probably just make the mob angrier. If they blow up a car, it's 50/50 as to whether that would make the mob worse or make them realize "Oh crap...... that was a big explosion. I do NOT want that to happen to me." However, this doesn't necessarily prevent further violence. For instance, let's say that the army busts out machine guns and mows down the first 3 ranks of the rioters. The riot is over, period. Those people are NOT going to try and swarm the troops at that point. They just aren't. They are going to be looking around at the still warm pieces of their friends, and wet themselves. They are going to run. However, they will be shocked for only so long. Then, they will attack again. Maybe later in that day, maybe in a couple of days. At that point, because of that extreme action, they will be very motiaved. Revenge, bloodlust, etc. Thus, if the army breaks out the machineguns again...... well...... I think it is very likely that the mob would be too far gone to stop, and it would swarm over the troops, regardless of losses. Let's stick to STUN only, eh?
  4. Re: The Forbes Fictional 15 Why does Santa have a lot of money???
  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... SAY WHAT? Can you explain that a little more? That was funny, but I think I could "get" it better with some more info.
  6. Re: Global Guardians Campaign Opening (PBEM) Just curious recently. Since there would be new operators for power-armored characters................. wouldn't this be a signifcant overhaul of the character itself? Which is expressely forbidden? The mannerisms, morals, and actions of a new pilot makes for a different character, plain and simple. Only the powers remain the same, but that is secondary.
  7. Re: Daily Art Findings I just saw on of those links as the cover of a novel in a bookstore. I was freaking out. It was awesome.
  8. Re: sitting You would attack someone in a wheel chair?!??!?
  9. Re: Duel This is nice. I think I might spring it on the fire wizard in my campaign as a nice little dramatic touch. I'll just have it that when he is dueling another wizard (whiich he will, muwahahahah) who attacks simulatenously, this result occurs. Start making EGO rolls! For every 2 one of them passes their ego rolls, the beam "moves" one hex towards their opponent. If they win the EGO roll, but not by two, then they get a plus 1 on their next roll (they managed to get a good "grip" on the struggle and are ready to push a little harder) But, I think I will keep track of how many phases they are doing this for two reasons: 1) They will both be burning END like crazy and 2) I think I will multiply the number of dice by how long they have been struggling, representing how they have continually been feeding power into this..... making the explosion much bigger than it would normally be... Throw in some Knockback just for kicks.
  10. Re: Skilled with a pen? Thank you everyone very much! Kind souls! Super Squirrel, thnx for the offer of backup! I appreciate it! Curufea............ I have no idea what your name means, but you went above and beyond. Thanks again all!
  11. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... What was his reasoning?
  12. Re: What's in a Phase? Thank you all very much.
  13. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Think I have a couple. From today's session. We are traveling through the very, very, VERY upper fringes of the Underdark, because we have been teleported by one of the minions of the first vampire (she was too busy to do it herself, long story) there. The thing is...... we have been here before. So, all is going dandy and fine, until we get to the maze of caves that lies between us and our destination. Last time, we got found by a fairy named Holly (a straight rip from the Artemis Fowl universe, including the LEP force etc, good books). Anyway, we know we can't find our way ourselves, but we have no way of contacting her. At first I have a really stupid idea, so I decide that we should try the tunnels ourselves. We manage to (luckily) find our way back to where we started, because I finally admitted myself that that was just the WORST idea. The GM told me afterwards that we were seconds from handing over our character sheets. So, I finally decide to use my idea. We setup in a defensive ring, and I stand in the middle, an Arab martial artist dressed like the Magi from "The Mummy," banging pots together and shouting "HOLLY! LEP PATROL?!" First thing that shows up after an hour or so are two giant spiders. They see too many bodies for their comfort, so they scurry up. Eventually, after being shadowed by a LEP patrol (I tried talking to them while they were invisible, the disciplined chaps didn't give it up, so I just cooked a meal and waited) Holly shows up. Apparently we had woken her up. "What did I ever do to you people to deserve this?" Later after we ask her to lead us through again, she asks "What's in it for me?" Me: "Well, we'll stop banging pots and shouting your name." Holly: "What makes you think we can't take care of that ourselves?" Me: "Don't take our pots!!!" (trying to lighten the situation) Later, as we are starting off, I ask her "In the HIGHLY unlikely event that we end up in this situation again........ what should we do that would cause you the least hassle? Wait, scratch that. What should we do that would be of the least bother to you AND would allow us to survive?" Holly sighs and says "Regulations require me to tell me that, technically, you have done the proper thing by requesting the assitance of the Lower Elements Police to help you in reaching your destination when you were in need of assitance. NOW GO TO HELL!" After that..... dealing with a part incubus who's daughter we had kidnapped and had subsequently lost to a planeswalking 15 year old once she had been drained into an old lady by a wight......... was almost a cakewalk. Almost.
  14. Re: Daily Art Findings Wait........ were there other desert warriors? I don't remember any........
  15. Re: Skilled with a pen? Oh, most assuredly I would do that for any one doing that for their OWN. As a matter of fact, I wish I had thought of it when I started out my current campaign.... But......... someone in my campaign who drew for me........ bonus points..... that might work. I might know a guy. But still........ Thanks once more!
  16. Re: Skilled with a pen? I considered doing a prize bit, but if I was going to do that..... then I would expect some significant entrys. Like, I might give twenty character descriptions (a combination of my PCs and NPCs in various campaigns) as "prompts" for entrys, and give 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. I would make the prizes the previous three months "half-off" books, which I would have bought half off each. Don't give me that look! I'm a teenager! Cash is not a light thing for me. Besdies, I think it would work pretty well. I'm sorry, but is there a specifica database on d20 of this "stock art?" I couldn't find it, but maybe I was looking in all the wrong places... Thnx all! Always open to more ideas!
  17. Re: NPC Concept that needs fleshing out: Minion I don't think he could be incorporated in any lasting manner in a team barring reprogramming or location of the Master Minion Remote (MMR).
  18. Re: What's in a Phase? Thank you all. This had helped much.
  19. Re: Skilled with a pen? Well, perhaps if no one else takes the bait (and I couldn't blame them if they did) I might bother you in a month or two to see if you have the time.
  20. Re: Railroading - Forcing PCs to take certain actions I think everyone railroads at the start of all campaigns. After all, you have to get characters to meet, and give them a reason to START hanging out. Most of the time, they are too diverse to make this easy without a pinch of railties involved.
  21. Re: What's in a Phase? What about for speeds higher than that? 3? 4? 5?
  22. Re: Skilled with a pen? That's an excellent suggestion. I might do that. However, I would feel even more embarassed to be approaching COMPLETE strangers such as those, who I have no "rep" with, as opposed to you chaps, who while still strangers..... we have more of a realtionship. Anyone you know there who doesn't mind doing character drawings?
  23. Seriously? What is in a phase? What does it consist of to you? What does it represent? My biggest question: How LONG is one phase to you? One second? 5? More? Less?
  24. This is for all of the members out there who have anything remotely like skill when it comes to drawing/sketching. I was wondering if any kind and generous soul out there was willing to do sketches/drawings of character descriptions for a campaign I'm running. Of course, this is obviously an almost ridiculous request, and I will not be the least offended if no one has the time or inclination. But who knows? Maybe someone out there would like the challenge of drawing a variety of fantasy characters, if they have any spare time of course.
