  1. Came across this while surfing. Possible "School for Gifted Youngsters" setting. http://www.psyhigh.com/index.php
  2. I picked mine up at my FLGS Friday and gave it a once-over. The art is great. The scenarios are fairly standard and straightforward. The real value is in the setting and character descriptions and behind-the-scenes flavor text. The normals are one of my favorite parts. How can you not like Dylan the leisure suit-selling Scotsman? I was dubious about the soap opera To Save The World, but after reading the flavor text and descriptions of the cast and characters I can see how it would work without being hokey. The KCK villains used have their personalities better fleshed out. Black Harlequin's style of humor is distinct from Joker's. It is more subtle and dry. There are probably better comparisons, but the best I could think of is Lord Edmund Blackadder from Blackadder II written as a psychotic. All-in-all I enjoyed it.
  3. How about a direct descendant of Alexander the Great who takes up his ancestor's goal of eliminating racial prejudice by forcing intermarriage until all are one ethnicity? All his henchmen wear sculpted masks depicting a computer composite of all known ethnic facial characteristics. Armored uniforms reminicent of armor in Alexander's army. The new Alexander would still be quite sexist, though. That should tick off any superheroines. He uses any hi-tech he can get his hands on as well as some ancient Greek and Macedonian magic.
  4. Other Christian TV programs This reminds me of the MadTV parody of that old Lutheran claymation show "Davy and Goliath". In the parody, Goliath was young Davy's alter ego instead of a real dog. Whenever Davy was alone in his room, a corner would darken and Goliath would appear and urge him to kill. Goliath(normal, Al Goresque voice): You know Davy, this city is full of sinners! It's time to cleanse the city of sin. Davy: Gee, I don't know, Goliath... Goliath(flames shooting from mouth and speaking in scary demon voice): DO AS I TELL YOU!!!
  5. The law of marketing sayeth: Lo! If a woman pursueth justice or evil in a suit of finest graphicnovelite, and yea it concealeth her face(or not), such armor must be cunningly crafted that her womanly charms be well-presented. Yea, verily, from the swelling of her bosom through the valley of her flank to the curve of her hips it must needs be that such be presented for all to see. Ornamentation of the breastplate with two small shining lights shall be neither encouraged nor discouraged but verily left to the conscience of each wearer.

Re: **sigh** All I remember of that book is: Mr. Darcy was a head taller and several heads thicker than most men.
  7. Re: Rats Dumb as a rock? But Ratigan was the rodent Napoleon of Crime! Maybe it was just an act.
  8. Archaeologist Nina Dowd, transformed by radiation from a meteorite into THE MIGHTY ENDOWED! I can't remember who: We have to fight her? Superboy: If there is a God, yes! Mighty Endowed:Why are you trembling in fear? Superboy: That's not fear! That's anticipation!
  9. Re: Re: Cthulhu in the 1960s? I reserved some Ramsey Campbell books at the local library. I'm not really looking for the Scooby Doo scene. I'm thinking more like the backplot of Dracula 1972 A.D. where decadent Old Guard works with youthful rebellion to promote evil and dance the night away. Sort of "I dress like Lord Byron, speak like Lenin, and thirst for absolute power like a Caligula".
  10. Thanks. I had forgotten about The Wicker Man. I've been reading some Dennis Wheatley(Gateway to Hell, The Devil Rides Out, et al), but I can only find them in the library because they are out of print. Ramsey Campbell sounds promising. There's so much written about the hippies but surely some of the mods had to be into it as well. Evil doesn't have to look scruffy and unwashed.
  11. I am looking for ideas for supernatural horror(wierd cults, etc.) but in the 1960s. The closest I've seen is Children of the Night by Mercedes Lackey and it's set at the end of the Vietnam War. I'm looking for books, films, and games. I think it' s very strange that there isn't anything in Call of Cthulhu considering all the alternative religions that sprung up at the time. Any suggestions?
  12. Untouchable Trio+One? This sounds like an issue of Knights of the Dinner Table where Brian, Dave, and Bob try to wreck another campaign.
  13. Got mine yesterday. I only had time to browse through it but it looks good. I like the little details like how soldiers that enjoy duty on the Fang hover platform blasting the natives get transferred out with no explanation. Hey Ben, how much input did you get on the art? It seems like the artists tried to inject the basic philosophies of the race into their starship designs. Examples: The "head" of the Varanyi cruiser takes up half the body. The Torgon warship looks like a big, blunt instrument to bash things with. The Se'ecra ship puts the lifestyle and diplomatic stuff in the front pod and the tactical setup in a pod aft and below the first pod.
  14. Resource Suggestion Steve, If you haven't already, try to find Yesterday's Faces by Robert Sampson. It covers the entire pulp genre from westerns to mystery men. For example, turn-of-the-20th-century detective Nick Carter wore the prototypical crimefighter's utility belt. Also, the old pulp villains could match Iron Age villains atrocity for atrocity any day. Sampson called them "maimed madmen, deformed monsters, and foreign crazies".

Re: Psi Knights & Psi Lords Attention to that little green man behind the curtain, pay not. There is no Dark side, there is only marketing.
  16. I once say a book on memory improvement called Psycho-cybernetics.
  17. First, the Queen would not believe you. Second, as far as my congregation is concerned, my only vice is a little tipple before Evenson. And third, you will regret calling me fatso!
  18. Actually, Spyro Gyra is a jazz/fusion band that still puts out albums. They have an eclectic style that never gets boring, IMHO. Check them out!
  19. Re: Has anyone on the west coast gotten USPD yet? Picked mine up Tuesday at The Dreaming! Great book!
  20. Re: Ack! Great pictures! I do have a question, however. Does the armor guy really leave his arms and legs bare?
  21. The Wold-Newton Universe I discovered this about two years ago. It has all kinds of ideas on how to insert famous literary characters in your campaign timeline. If you ever wanted a character who has Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, and Fu Manchu in his family tree, this site can show you how! This site also has a low-powered comic-bookish premise for why all these characters have heroic-level stats. Check out The Secret History of The Wold-Newton Universe to see ideas for incorporating comic book, movie, and TV show plots into your campaign.
  22. Don't get me wrong. I've enjoyed the numerous Seeker parodies posted on the boards over the years. It's just that I don't associate a character like him with the gritty(often an excuse for mindless sadism), modern graphic novel. My first thought on seeing that fake cover was that Seeker was getting the Authority treatment. I'm glad that's not the case. BTW, I thought the panoramic artwork in The Authority was wonderful and I enjoyed the Transmetropolitan and Planetary collections I've read so I'm not just bashing Warren Ellis!
  23. Lay off Seeker! I couldn't believe it when I saw that. Like a lot of people, I thought Seeker was a somewhat goofy take on a martial artist. But he grew on me when I read Watchers of the Dragon. Seeker turned out to be a pretty thoughtful person who carried on the tradition of laughing at danger to avoid being overwhelmed by the seriousness of a situation. Seeker in WotD is a testament to how The Ultimate Martial Artist can be used to flesh out and expand an otherwise bland set of powers and skills. I don't mean to jump on a soapbox, but seeing the expression on Seeker's face reminded me of Warren Ellis' trashing of The Avengers in The Authority. Come on. If you write for a genre you hate and plan on slamming it, at least do it with some class! But I digress... Seeker should either be written out of the official Champions Universe and never be mentioned again or allowed to die with dignity.
  24. Angel Resources? There's an entire line of idea sources. The In Nomine series from Steve Jackson Games has many ideas for powers and character types, both angels and demons.
