  1. Re: Combining Naked Advantages (Correction) I think my answer to the first post (which was a general answer that didn't address your specific example) covers this; if not, please post a follow-up.
  2. Re: Compound power in VPP question No, that's not legal -- you've got a 120 "Active Point" power in a VPP with only a 60-point Pool. See 5ER 94 and 311 re: calculating the Active Points of compound powers, Framework allocation, etc.
  3. Re: Combining Naked Advantages There's no rule that says a character can't use two naked Advantages together (though of course the GM may rule against it). But he has to make sure that both Advantages are bought to cover enough Active Points to affect the base ability plus the other naked Advantage.
  4. Re: Another Spider Man 2 question Since this is more of a "GM's judgment" sort of thing and not a rules question, and moreover refers to a movie I haven't seen yet (it's in the Netflix queue;)), I've moved it to "Discussion" so anyone who likes can chime in.
  5. Re: Entangle and Spider Man 2 Since this is a "how to" and not a rules question, and moreover refers to a movie I haven't seen yet (it's in the Netflix queue;)), I've moved it to "Discussion" so anyone who likes can chime in.
  6. Re: Champions of the North We certainly wouldn't object to doing another CotN, or another KoC -- for which reason we're specifically going to leave those areas alone in Champions Worldwide. Unlike, say, Africa, I think they deserve and can support products of their own. We'll just need to find a qualified Canadian writer for CotN.
  7. Re: Abort to Entangle? That's up to the GM to decide, based on whether he thinks it's a "defensive action."
  8. Re: Typeface error in 5ER Weapon Familiarity table? There's nothing "up" with it, it's just a layout mistake.
  9. Re: Green Lantern-esque object creation I don't generally answer "how to" questions. 5ER 180-81 (and the old Rules FAQ) does have rules for horizontal Force Walls, if those are of any use to you.
  10. Re: High End DC:TAS Good luck, Savinien! Sometimes trying to track down gaming-pertinent info on real-world cities is more trouble than it's worth, so "winging it" may work best. Unfortunately, not every city has a great reference book for it like The Encyclopedia Of New York City, which was really helpful to me as I wrote Hudson City.
  11. Re: Body and Resurrection Revised OK, I think maybe I understand what you want to know, though I’m still not sure because you’re phrasing this as some sort of declarative, not as a question. Therefore I’m going to restate what I think you’re asking so if I don’t get it right, you can follow up more on point. Here’s what I think you’re asking: A character has Healing Resurrection. The defined condition under which the power will not work is if the character dies from taking a particular type of damage (for the sake of discussion, let’s say damage from fire). What kills someone so that his Healing Resurrection will not work on that person? Does it mean that the victim has to die solely from fire damage, or that the final attack that kills him (i.e., reduces him to negative his starting BODY score), or that he suffer any fire damage along the way toward dying? The answer to that question is: the final attack that kills him (i.e., reduces him to negative his starting BODY score) has to be fire damage to prevent him from Resurrecting. However, standard rules about Resurrection apply, so even if the character only takes a little fire damage, once he Resurrects it’s possible he’ll die again if the other damage he took isn’t healed in some manner. Furthermore, if the character dies through some means other than fire, but before he can return to life he’s exposed to fire (e.g., thrown on a pyre, doused with gasoline and set alight, stuffed into an oven that’s been turned on, or the like), then that will prevent Resurrection as well, unless the GM rules otherwise. As always, the GM should use his common sense, dramatic sense, and consideration for game balance when adjudicating these situations. Resurrection, like Duplication and Images, is one of those concepts that tends to create a lot of questions when concretized in game terms, and applying common/dramatic sense and an appreciation for game balance is the best way to answer them.
  12. Re: Resurrection and Body I'm not quite sure I understand what it is you want to know. If a character has the Resurrection form of Healing, he has to define a way to prevent it from working. Typically that's either a form of attack ("my Resurrection doesn't work on people killed by fire") or some ongoing restriction ("my Resurrection doesn't work on corpses that have a stake through the heart"). If he dies from some manner of attack that falls within the defined parameters, or is subject to the condition that prevents Resurrection from working when he dies, then he's dead and can't be brought back to life. The GM can make exceptions in the interest of common sense and dramatic sense (e.g., a vampire's Resurrection might start working centuries later after the stake is removed from his heart).
  13. Re: Entangles and Cumulative 1-3. Characters can’t apply Cumulative to Entangle. As noted in the Advantage’s description, it’s only for Powers that involve applying a total on the dice to a defense, and there’ no defense that subtracts from an Entangle in that sense. Re: 3, the rules for Entangle do cover some ways of “strengthening” or “healing” a damaged Entangle. 4. No to both.
  14. Re: Force Fields That's a judgment call I'm going to leave to the GM. If I were running the game, I don't think I'd count a big hunk of earth as something "carried in the hands," but reasonable minds may differ.
  15. Re: Force Wall and Explosion followup... No worries -- this time I've got it! In this situation, the target hex is the target hex chosen by the attacker — the FW doesn’t change that. The GM might explain the special effect of the character’s FW protecting him as “it kept the grenade from exploding right next to you,” but in rules terms having a FW up doesn’t alter the target hex of an attack.
  16. Re: Immortal Questions Since this is a "how to" rather than a rules question, I've moved it to Discussion so anyone who'd like to can chime in.
  17. Re: Can Images(Touch Group) be used to activate pressure sensitive things? 5ER 190 and FH both have an extensive discussion about what Touch Images can do. Based on that discussion, the default answer is no, Touch Images can't press buttons, activate pressure-sensitive mines and switches, or the like. But as always the GM can rule otherwise if he prefers.
  18. Re: Further Multiform confusion You're misunderstanding slightly. The fact that the character is built on 200 points isn't the issue. The term Base Points has a specific meaning in the game -- you'll find it defined in the Glossary and so on. Let's assume the character is built on 100 Base Points + 100 points from Disadvantages = 200 points. If he buys a dragon Multiform for which the dragon is built on a total of 300 points, the dragon has the same Base Points -- 100 -- and thus needs another 200 points' worth of Disadvantages to balance his character sheet. The GM can certainly waive this if he wants, and you can find more information on the subject on 5ER 211-12 and in the Rules FAQ (including rules for how to "bypass" the Disadvantages requirement by paying extra).
  19. Re: Hero System 5th Edition, Revised now in Online Store There's a sticky question on the "HERO System 5th Edition Questions" board that briefly addresses this issue.
  20. Re: Force Wall and Explosion I'm not sure I understand the question. FW protects against AoE/Explosion attacks just like any other defense, and they affect it just like other attacks. FW doesn't offer any special protection against them, or immunize the character against 'em by keeping them from "touching" him. Nor can FW function as a sort of "Missile Deflection/Reflection" against them. If I'm missing something, please post a follow-up and I'll try again.
  21. Re: Multiform Confusion I'm sorry, but I generally don't answer rules design/philosophy questions. I'll leave it up to each individual gamer to judge the relative "value" of building a particular Multiform.
  22. Re: NCSLs Followup That I'll leave up to the GM. Generally I'd discourage that sort of thing, since they're already pretty powerful, but what each individual GM will or won't allow is up to him.
  23. Re: END Pools and SPD Changes The Uncontrolled Power continues to act on the Phases the character had when he activated/used it.
  24. Re: Can you abort to multiple 0 phase actions? 1. I don't have my 5E rulebook with me, so I can't give you a page reference, but this is covered in the book. It's on 5ER 362, if that helps. 2. A Desolidified character can use his Force Wall to protect himself. He can't use it to protect anyone else or englobe people unless it has the Affects Physical World Advantage.
