  1. Re: Superhero Aging I have long wanted to run a game set in a combined DC/Marvel Universe where all the (major) heroes first appeared in the same year as they debuted in real life, and aged in real time. This would give us multiple generations of supers, people retiring and passing on their mantles, and even certain superhero families merging (for some reason, I've long thought it would be cool to have Peter Parker's daughter marry Bruce Wayne's grandson. Don't ask me why). Of course, some heroes like Superman, Thor, and Wonder Woman don't age. And others age more slowly (Namor and Aquaman are Atlantean hybrids, Captain America has the Super-Soldier, etc.). And some are just really weird (Bruce Banner and Billy Batson age normally, The Hulk and Captain Marvel do not). And, of course, the game would be set in the modern day, with the PCs as decendants/successors of the original heroes. Players would have to give a general back-story from the character's first appearance to now, with any major overlap being agreed on by both players, and I as the GM being able to use anybody the players don't.
  2. Re: Comic Book (genre) Conventions that don't work in Champions If I'm running the game, then the reason the villain takes a shot at the DNPC or bystander in the first place is so that the hero can jump in and save them. I mean, that's my reason as the GM, not the villainous NPC's reason.
  3. Re: Pulparize It! How can you say "" about I Dream of Genie? Classic TV, lots of laughs, and Barbara Eden was such a babe.
  4. Re: What Non-Fiction Book have you just finished? To Be The Man... Ric Flair's autobiography. Pretty good read, very interesting to someone who followed Flair from Mid-South through his retirement (as I did). Interesting looks at behind-the-scenes stuff, a lot of "so that's why that happened," and a good bit of "I remember that!" Not as entertaining as Have a Nice Day, but few things are. I am so jealous of Mick Foley. But that's a different post.
  5. Re: The Essential *Good* Silver Age That's.... that's just....wow.
  6. Re: An exercise in the creative process Thank you.
  7. Re: An exercise in the creative process I think that if supers were so incorporated into society, it would show up other places besides just the supers themselves. For example, one of my favorite issues of Astro City was the one that focused on an actor playing a superhero on a soap opera. I loved it, because it always seemed to me that things like that would happen in a world with supers. So, in your world, how prevalent are superhero characters in other forms of entertainment? Do they show up in sitcoms (either as the main character or a supporting character)? What about hospital dramas? Are there more or fewer superhero movies? And do the ones there are focus on real superheroes or fictional ones? What about comic books? Are superheroes so prevalent in the comics when they are also on the front page? Just some ideas that I always like to ponder when I'm designing a world where superheroes have been around longer than a few years.
  8. Re: I'd rather be me than my character because... I'd rather be me than Voltage because: Both my parents are still alive.
  9. Re: The archetypes no decent superhero history should be without I can only see one archetype you left out; the one that (imo) best fits Superman: The First. Doesn't really matter what his powers are (although they do tend to overlap with the Strongman), but he is the First known superhero, and generally considered the greatest in his setting.
  10. Re: I figured out a perfect supervillain. And half of the ones who don't.

  12. Found a book in the liobrary called Chance Fortune and The Outlaws, by an author named Berryhill (can't remember first name right now). I'm currently reading through it for the second time, and I wondered if anyone else on the boards had heard of it. It reminded me a lot of the movie Sky High in concept, but not in execution. Very enjoyable book for superhero fans, and I would love to run a campaign in that setting. So, anyone else know what I'm talking about?
  13. Re: Odd Champions campaigns So, what exactly is this from?
  14. Re: Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens Voltage: Girls in bikinis and girls in short skirts Hitting the bad guys right where it most hurts Flying through cities and eating hot wings These are a few of my favorite things Frat-boy keggers and hanging with Heroes Endorsement checks with many zeroes One girl on each arm and one in the wings These are a few of my favorite things Going to strip-clubs and stomping the bad-guys Signing some autographs when I'm recognized Stopping the bad things like drug-running rings These are a few of my favorite things...
  15. Re: In the Gestalt Universe, The Superhero Ideal That was something that always got me about the original Superman movies. They ignored many of the powers he had in the comics, and added on others he didn't have.
  16. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine It would if my computer at home didn't suck and my computer at work gave me access to such software. Oh well.... maybe once I get that stimulus check and can buy a decent computer... Thank you anyway.
  17. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine Huh? Me techno-illiterate. Need step-by-step instructions. Me something of a Luddite.
  18. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine I am really enjoying this thread. But I have a question: I've come up with a number of creations I'd like to share, but don't know how to get them in the thread. How do I do that?
  19. Re: The Worst character in comics I've been debating this in my head, and have reached a decision. Even though he used to be cool, I have to give it to Wolverine. Why? A few reasons. He started the whole trend of "loner on a team" and, of course, "berserker with claws and a healing-factor." Plus, he has become the single most over-used, over-exposed, over-rated, and over-estimated comic-book character I can think of. And, I think many of the current problems with Marvel Comics come from them going "Wolverine is our most popular character. So, let's make all our characters more like Wolverine!"

  21. Re: Approved by the Comics Code Authority Voltage: Father was a reformed supervillain, mother the heroine whom captured him. Well, he was caught, did his time, reformed and fell in love with and married his former enemy. I don't see a problem there. Voltage himself is the result of genetic experiments that VIPER conducted on his father (pre-reform). Mother and father were both killed when VIPER showed up to collect the fruits of their labor. But Peter Parker's parents and uncle were dead, as were Bruce Wayne's parents, so that will probably get through. Voltage raised by Steel Centurion, a former team-maye of his mother, and his wife. The only thing Voltage would have a problem with would be the down-grade to his "social" life. He'd go from campus stud to occasional dates that would bore a priest, except when they're interrupted by supervillain activity.
  22. Re: Good ways to play champions via the internet? My friends and I have considerred Play-By-Post in a dedicated chatroom. Of course, unless you have a dice-rolling program, you're kind of on the honor system there.
  23. Re: WWII Star Wars Action Figures I saw these before and thought they were chock-full of Pulpy Goodness.
  24. Re: Pulparize It!:rofl::rofl: And that's all I have to say about that... Oh! And rep.
