Michael: Arrik, Corsak's been murdered. Looks like a professional hit.

Arrik: Well, I guess his trial won't take long, then.

One of the things that gives me hope and pride is the willingness of posters who are politically at opposite ends of the spectrum to stand up for each other if something goes wrong in real life.

Now, if politically we could see each other as *people* and not *positions*, I'd be one happy camper.

I finally have a quote worthy of mentioning. My superhero gaming group was facing off with a magician who had these magical orbs hovering around his head, each one having a different set of powers.

The team's most agile character, a sword-bearing she-devil (can you say 'Red Sonja?'), decided to try to relieve him of the orbs. Now, when I described these orbs, I said they were "like tiny little balls of crackling energy, floating around his head. You can, however, see the metal underneath the energy, so they're solid."

She leaps. Makes her Acrobatics roll. Makes her Strength roll to pull two of them from his telekinetic field. I say, "Okay, you succeeded. Now what?"

She exclaims: "I take his balls and run!"

Her boyfriend, who also games with us, sighs and says, "Why is this starting to feel familiar?"

    Hilarity ensued.

Well, its not a quote, but a reaction, but here goes.

Game set, post apocalyptic--about 150 years after a limited nuclear exchange. Characters are assisting a scientist doing background radiation readings for the area their group will be working in. The 2 characters are products of limited genetic engineering--their lifespan has been estimated to be about 200 to 300 years. This project was secret, so the two characters hadn't shared this information in gnereral. (This was a 'free' Perk the characters were so excited to get)

the scietist finished his study and announced, in a joking manner. "Well, good news and bad news: the background radiation count is still elevated, but on the bright side, its not enough to be really harmful, unless you plan to live to be 200 or something."

while the other PC's are pretty happy and smiling, the other two just beat their heads into the table.

Got to love those free perks

    Two very old ones"

One from Champs, the Emerald Archer and his Honourable disadvantage vs. Ratman:

RM: "Tell you what - you don't use your bow, and I won't use my tail"

    EA: "OK" Drops bow

Two phases later, Ratman slashes EA with his tail.

EA "Hey! You said you wouldn't use your tail!"

RM: "I'm the bad guy. We get to lie."

One from D&D. The group has found five evenly spaced indentations on the wall. Unknown to them, they are intended to arm or disarm pit traps elsewhere. There is a crown with five solid marble-soze spheres used for this purpose, but they haven't found it.

The warrior priest suggests shoving her fingers into the indentations. The remaining players think that's a bad idea.

WP: "Wait, I can cast Find Traps. Cast - is it a trap?".

DM: "No, you don't sense a trap."

WP: "I shove my fingers in the indentations."

DM: "There is a hideous crunch and the WP shrieks in agony."

[Her fingertips are crushed by the loicking mechanism.]

DM: [quoting from spell description; my quote will be off a bit] "A trap is a device which was created with the intention of inflicting harm."

Our superhero group is flying across central Missouri, trying to locate the hidden base of the magical/technological villain who has kidnapped the hostages...

We see a low stone wall, covering a circle about two kilometers in radius. There are incredibly complex mystic runes on the wall.

Kendrick (the mage) blows his Analyze Magic rol1.

"Wow. It's incredibly complex... brilliant really. I can't quite make it out... seems to be some sort of..."

The plane flys over the wall. Instantly, the countryside is replaced by an ultra-modern base. Troops are everywhere. Scout cars and APCs are warming up. Mecha are beginning to turn towards us.

    "...concealment spell. Oh."

Sorry to inject this in the middle of the stand up!

I "walked the walk" today, and it was tough! I got together with an old buddy; he and I were homeless together as teens, and saw each other through some real hard times. We shared interest in guitar years ago, and when I caught up with him it was one of teh first things I asked him. Turns out that his ex trashed his guitar, and times have been too lean for him to replace it. I couldn't decide which of mine I could part with, so I took my acoustics to him and let him pick one. So now Valerie 23, the Ibanez A/E has a new home. Like the scripture says, "If you have two cloaks, and someone has none, give him one of yours."

It was awesome to get together with him again, and my family is asleep so I'm telling you about it. We talked about how fortunate we are to be drawing breath after the adventures we went through. We laughed about living for a week on oyster crackers and cocoa packets, reminisced over fights where we backed each other up, shared fond memories of sleeping in the school bus lot, shivered over hitchhiking nightmares become reality, and looked deep into our beers as we remembered the times we got dinner out of a dumpster.

I felt a little bad, because I have gathered more material wealth than he has been able to. I am fortunate to be able to offer my family security that I never had, and I would like for him to have that too. But he's content; he has a daughter he sees sometimes, a couple exes that suck up his money - but he has found peace after all of that.

I see him now, and remember him as a kid and am just amazed that he is doing as well as he is, even though he's sharing a home with some other folks. I mean, to climb up from nothing and earn a place in society is very hard - too many take it for granted. But it also really hits home about just how far I have come. I was street punk just like him, and I, too, take my success for granted far too often. I am no rags to riches millionaire, but my family has a full belly and a roof overhead, and those are huge blessings indeed.

Just remember, fellow citizens: In America you have the right to succeed beyond your wildest imaginings. But with that comes teh right to fail and fall totally unnoticed through the cracks.

There but for the grace of God go I.
