Re: Help me with master villain point levels I also agree. My players have had countless scenarios with Dr Destroyer as the villain but have never faced him personally in combat. The team would be slaughtered by the even the 4th ed Dr D. Competent agents have always been a favorite in my games, especially if the team has a speedster.

Re: VIPER vs UNTIL: Who has the best toys? Hmm. That's helpful. So at the shooting range, having previously trained with UNTIL blasters, he would probably be impressed with the VIPER weapons. If nothing else but by the kaboom factor. Works for me. He probably wasn't trained with some of UNTIL's non-combat toys. EDIT: Boll weevil types like an amputee.

I am playing a character who was kicked out of UNTIL and joined VIPER. It could happen! I am curious, as my character completes his VIPER weapons training how VIPER weapons and general technology compares to UNTIL's. I have both books but the volume of information is making my tiny head hurt. Besides comparing apples to apples from the Weapons sections, I wonder if there is an overall, deliberate model for comparing these two organizations. Thoughts? As a matter of clarification, the size of my head is not tiny, only the gray stuff contained therein.

Re: Nigh invulnerability and Overconfidence Couple things. First, invulnerability is a tricky thing in Hero System rules. His defenses, while obsene, are not absolute. He has very high PD/ED and some Damage Reduction. As Iuz mentioned, an AVLD would take him down hard. It hasn't happened yet but mechanically it is possible. Second, I think of the scene from Star Wars (New Hope) when Han Solo runs after the stormtroopers screaming like a maniac. I realize that Han is not invulnerable but Chewbacca is honor-bound to follow the moron into battle. Fear is a useful tool both in battle and interpersonal relations. The cap'n doesn't wear a seatbelt, runs with scissorsand drinks milk that is way past it's expiration. As an aside, I remember watching the movie Angus (if you haven't seen it, rent it) where Angus' grandfather explains to him why Superman is not brave. A beautiful, poignant scene in a rather cartoonish teen angst movie.

Re: College Professor Skill Level My vote goes to WIDE variation. I had chemistry professors in college who were "teachers", meaning they relied heavily on the syllabus and textbook. They could have easily left that class and taught an English class next hour. I also had professors who were "chemists". Their knowledge of the material far exceeded their teaching ability. I did have a couple of those rare professors who bought both KS:Teaching and KS:Chemistry with complementary PS skills.

So, I have this long-time character, Captain Cockroach. Funny, I know others have used this name but there it is. He has been a part of my main super team for about 15 years but I have only recently dusted off his character sheet for a 5th ed update. As you might guess, he is the resident immovable object. Short on offenses but pretty much invulverable to most attacks. He is actually rather fun to play as he is the cannon-fodder guy, "accidental hostage" and chief danger guy. Long ago, I gave him Overconfidence as one of his disads. I think this is OK since there are more ways to fail than getting hurt. What I was really hoping to capture was his fearlessness. He has been a hero since the 80's, fighting some pretty heavy-hitters without much more than some bruises. He knows going into most battles that he will not be injured, or injured badly. Because of this, he has no fear. Is this a disadvantage (even a 0-pt one)? It seems to me like "Fearless" should actually cost points rather than save them. Thoughts? I really do enjoy this character and would welcome stories of your own Juggernaut characters. Ever been dropped into a VIPER nest with explosives strapped to your chest? Cap'n C has!

By his confession that the world is not his to rule, we all must make do knowing that we are but monkeys crawling on a big rock in a cold and lonely universe. I picked up Champions Battlegrounds at my local FLGS and I have to say bravo. The entire supplement is fantastic. The well ran dry years ago of gamers I played with and I probably won't get to run this amazing string of adventures, least not face-to-face. I'm curious to hear other's stories who have run Battlegrounds. What you ran, what you changed, how it ended...everything. I realize it will be impossible to tell the whole story without dropping some major spoilage so feel free to PM me.

Yes, and it gets worse... Not only do I only ever GM but, and I can't stress this enough, I suck hard at GM'ing. I have been playing Champions since it came in the cardboard box and I still have to look up damage rules. I am the worst GM in the world. The degree to which I suck at GM'ing is not measureable with existing technology. I have done a couple of PBEM games with some success. Mostly because I can look up things offline. Did I mention the suckitude?

Re: Champions Jargon "Mortgaged" - Like in Monopoly, when a character's chit-marker is turned over to indicate they are -30 STUN. As in, "Ooh, Boll Weevil is mortgaged!"

Re: Super City WPDR (Plot Device Radio) - The local radio station formats it's news in such a way that all one need do is turn on the radio and hear the most relevent news. No music, no commercials, no unneeded news, just plot points 24 hours a day.

Long long ago I ran a campaign. The heroes of said campaign had an NPC team member who stayed back at HQ and called the plays. The character was inspired by Theora Jones' function in Max Headroom. He monitored their positions, could tap into security systems remotely, unlocked doors, monitored vital signs (a la Aliens) and could access information on request. Back then I ran this character as almost a plot device and never really statted him out. When I played this character it was before the "internets", GPS, ONSTAR or even before most people had computers...God, I'm old. Anyone have some cool ideas for fleshing this character out?

Re: Sanctuary? I have always used Santuary in my games. No, Doctor D doesn't go there and heroes don't drink with folks that robbed the bank that day either. There are a lot of characters in my campaigns who are neither heroes nor villains. Just folks that know folks.

Re: Erg! How to describe powers? Yeah, a fictional scale is probably the way to go. That way, I could somehow correlate Damage Classes to real world terms.

Hello party peeps. I am finally completing my campaign world's own version of the USPD. Each page lists a known meta and a description of their powers in real terms. Has anyone figured on any scale the ergs, newtons, joules etc of common powers? Sure would be cool if I could say Firewing's Flame Bolt III does XXX BTUs.
