  2. Re: Comic Book powers that don't work as well in gaming Danger Sense: I was always having to rewind surprise attacks in a fantasy hero campaign where I forgot one character had danger sense. The player's tag line became "Lance has danger sense." Eventually we just made him a sign with those words on it.
  3. Re: Songs that inspire(d) you to make a Champions Character I have done a character inspired by Veteran of the Psychic Wars. His name was curse. A mentalist of course. He had been a psychic warrior in an ancient land we might call Atlantis or Babylon before it fell. He was buried alive forced himself into a psychic sleep that lasted over two thousand until he was finally awoken in the 20th century a shrivled husk of the mind he had once been, but utterly uncanny in psychic combat. Psychic martial arts anyone? You see me now a veteran of a thousand psychic wars. I've been livin' on the edge so long, where the winds of limbo roar. Sniff... that brings back memories.
  4. Re: Query's Art & Stuff Thread Chalk this up to, "I've had a lot of free time to draw over the holidays." These are some really small, fairly whimsical drawings of zombies intended for my campaign. ZOMBIE SANTA ZOMBIE BOXER ZOMBIE BOMBER
  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... From a game a long time ago: Heavy Metal, a brick with obnoxious defenses, has just been hit by a barrage of anti-tank fire. One of the shots actually manages to do 3 Stun... Heavy Metal: (OOC) He actually did stun. I blow phase 12 to be offended!
  6. Re: Doesn't he look familiar? I remember a long time ago I made a cat familiar for a witch character. It had all the abilities I'm sure a supernatural cat would possess. Invisibility. Only when not moving (how many times have you tripped over a cat you're sure wasn't there before) Teleport. Only when nobody is looking. Danger Sense. Telepathy. Disads: Never gives anyone a straight answer. For Mike's companion. How about a shapeshifting imp. Sometimes its a mouse Sometimes it's a candle flame. Sometimes it's an earring. Even Mike can't tell what the imp is unless it reveals itself by speaking or acting in an unnatural way. i.e. The candle flame hops off the candle and starts walking across the crinkly paper. Or worse, mike's underwear starts talking to her.
  7. Re: The artwork drives me nuts I suppose I should send a portfolio to Hero and see if they'd commission me. I'd love to have some work in an official product.
  8. Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign. Hmmm.... The last really super long campaign I ran was called the Omega Games. And the five most powerful people in it were called the Omegas. None of them had c-sheets. They had little inifinty marks instead. Think Tank Raw intellect. She could keep track of every single molecule on the planet without really trying, and her power of prediction were god-like. She frequently left the PC's transcripts of conversations that hadn't happened yet. The only "good guy" among the omegas. If not for her enforcing the compromise the other Omegas would have destroyed the world. Alpha Prime Raw Emotion. The living (dis)embodiment of all human emotion. Sort of the ultimate psychic vampire. Fed one human emotion and the more extreme the better. Dictator Pure Order. Usually embodied in a mechanon-style Nazi war robot. All technology was its to command, and it despised the randomness of life. Kaos Pure Chaos. Rarely embodied. Was consistently inconsistent and had a tendency to make life look like a Salavdor Dahli painting on acid. Only goal was to break down order Ex Pure Disbelief. Another insubstantial Omega was sort of the ultimate nihlist. Did not actively participate in the Omega games because that would have required a purpose. Tended to act as a power sink to the other omegas just by virtue of his existence.
  9. Re: Riff, Rocker Grrl I like the concept. As assault said. Look to your stats. DEX 18 gives you CV 6 and DEX roll 13-. 15 EGO doesn't give you anything that EGO 14 doesn't etc. Powers Wise. You might want to ask yourself how does this power really work. If she has to play her guitar to make her powers work, then she doesn't have any free hands or free time to attack while being defensive or defend while being aggressive. You might want to think about having some continuous effects (call them harmonics or something) that she can set up and having running in the background. It will be up to your GM how exactly this will work, but you might try something like this. 24 Harmonics Multipower: 60 pt reserve (OAF Guitar -1) (Full phase to switch slots -1/4) (Visible effects "Background music" -1/4) 2u Iron Man: 2 Levels DI (0 END), +10 STR (0 END, No figured Stats), +8PD/+8ED Armor (hardened) 2u Ace Of Spades: +9 DEX, +2 SPD, +11" Running etc, etc. Then you'd have another multipower for aggressive powers. Just my 2 yen
  10. Re: What would you do? what would you do? Thunder (the supersonic woman) would take the gun away from him, take all the bullets out of it, disassemble it, strip him out of his clothes, discard all other weapons he might be carrying, and hog tie him before he could blink. Query "Why are you threatening that cat?" She would then then shunt reality so that the gun jams.
  11. Re: What would your character do #56? Query would think "Okay, why didn't I see this coming? In what possible reality does this/has this/will this happen to me?" She would resist the urge to speak herself back to normal then use postcognition to look into the infinite/many/several possible pasts that led up to this moment and see if they have any commonalities that might indicate causality. Then she would avoid the heck out of her boyfriend while she figures out how to funnel her personally reality back to her preferred state.

  14. Re: Mythic Creatures as Eco-Terrorists? I had an Eco Terrorist group like that once. The leader's name was Torpedo, she was a half-human half-mermaid, and she had a terrible dislike for whaling ships. Her advice to the Navy. "Don't bring your ships after me and I won't sink them." The group also contained Roc who was a Hindu gadjeteer whose primary focus was a harness that projected a telekinetic field in the shape of a gianormous bird. There were others, but those are the two that stick in my memory.

  16. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Quote of the night from the "Sparks Fly" campaign. Nightfall (PC) is talking to Sheriff (NPC) about strange happenings in his county. Smudges--people/animals who have undergone detrimental transformations--have been cropping up there. Nightfall: So you've actually seen a smudge? Sheriff: (Drawling) Cows shouldn't have that many legs. Nightfall: Ah. Cattle mutations are up.

  20. Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central Hello Eveyone. I am sorry for the hastiness of this post, but right now I am in a tearing hurry. My computer's power supply is busted and I'm using a backup machine. The problem should be resolved soon, but I wanted to get a decent submission in. So here is EFREET It wasn’t even a one night stand. After watching her commit a particularly callous murder, Forge confronted Mystique and called her the most loathsome thing that had ever crawled the face of the Earth. Mystique just laughed at him. “You are weak. You cannot stop me. You cannot control me. You cannot even control yourself.” To prove it, she seduced him on the spot, turning all of his outrage into a twisted lust to which he finally succumbed. When she found out she was pregnant, she taunted him with that as well. She would have disposed of the child except that Forge groveled before her and begged her to let him take the child off her hands. Using his unparalleled technical skills he created an artificial womb for the unborn child. Mystique discarded him soon after, but left him with a chilling warning, “You are the child’s keeper, but she belongs to me. I will return for her when her powers bloom. I will take her from you like I have taken everything else, and I will make her mine.” Humiliated, but not totally broken, Forge cared for the incubating fetus. While she was still in utero, he implanted her with nanomachines designed to correct any mutations in her cells so she would never develop powers. Forge assisted her into the world, named her Dawn and raised her as his own. He became politically reclusive, avoiding the mutant political game and concentrating on R&D. He did contract work for the U.S. Govt., MET, and Shield, always being careful never to become too beholden to his employers. Dawn moved around with him. She was a bright child, but she was never as interested in her fathers machines as he was. She turned her brilliant mind instead to languages, cultures, and finally to archeaology. She graduation Valedictorian from high school at age 14, and went on to study arceaology first at Harvard and then under the tutelage of various masters in the field. She is never happier than when she is digging in the dirt in some middle eastern country. She especially loves ancient messoptamian history. As an archaeologist in the middle east she has prowled the back alleys of bagdahd looking for shady antiquities dealers and hobnobbed with royalty looking for funding, and she is good at both. Thanks to her father’s nanomachines, she never developed any mutant abilities. She was working in Cairo when she encountered Bobby Doppler, who was funny, charming, rich and oh-so handsome. They began dating. She took him to meet her father. Forge was impressed by Bobbie and offered to give him a tour of his lab. Once they were inside. Bobby revealed herself as Mystique, and she had come to claim her child. Dawn was utterly shocked, but Forge was prepared. “She doesn’t have any powers,” he said. “Then she is of no use to me,” Mystique said, and before Forge could stop her, she snapped Dawn’s neck. Horrified forge did the only thing he could think of. While Mystique made her getaway, he installed Dawn in a prototype battle armor suit complete with its life support systems before her brain could die. The suit’s life support systems saved her life, the also cleaned the nano-machines out of her bloodstream. Her long suppressed powers suddenly manifested. Her mother’s cell-shifting abilities and her father’s mastery of technology ran amok. Her body merged with the battle armor, absorbed it into herself. Her skin became armor plating, her muscles became hydraulic rams, her nerves became fiber optics and her bones became composite steel. By the time she woke, the transmogrification had run its course. She and the armor had becoming one being. Thanks to her mothers transmorphic genes she can switch back and forth from a bio-mechanical form to one of flesh and blood, though becoming the armored form is an uphill energy transformation and requires a jolt of power to kick-start it. Dawn reacted badly to this transmogrification at first—The property damage ran into the millions—but eventually calmed down enough to realize that her father had done everything he could for her and being alive was better than being dead. Forge directed his daughter to the X-men to meet like-minded people whose lives had been turned upside down by their powers. She’s also looking to have a word or two with her mother. APPEARANCE: See picture. POWERS: The Efreet armor is a loaded with plasma weaponry and a sophisticated combat computer. PERSONALITY: Dawn is generally upbeat, and her transformation hasn’t changed that, though the trauma of it is still fresh on her mind, and her mother’s betrayal cuts like a great ragged wound across her soul. She was a bright child, gifted with the machines she had spent her entire life around, but thanks to her father’s nanomachines, she never developed any mutant abilities. She was working her way through high-school, well on her way to earning a technical scholarship to a high powered school, when she encountered Bobby Doppler, who was funny, charming, and oh-so handsome. They began dating. She took him to meet her father, who was working for Stark enterprises at the time. Forge was impressed by Bobbie and offered to give him a tour of the non-classified lab. While Mystique made her getaway, he rushed her into a secure part of the installation and installed Dawn in a prototype battle armor suit complete with its life support systems before her brain could die. By the time she awoke, no flesh remained. Dawn reacted badly to this transmogrification at first—The property damage ran into the millions—but eventually calmed down enough to realize that her father had done everything he could for her and being alive was better than being dead. Since her life had been turned upside down, she decided to take a time out and find other mutants whose lives had been equally wrecked by their abilities. She’s also looking to have a word or two with her mother. APPEARANCE: Looks like a female robot with steel-gray armor and gold highlights. (Picture will be forthcoming) POWERS: Crux is a shapeshifting android. She can alter her own mechanical structure in the same way her mother can alter her biological one. This allows her to manifest all sorts of useful weapons/devices out of her own body mass. However she cannot manifest any parts which require materials she does not possess. For example, she can’t make chemical weapons unless she has the appropriate chemicals handy. As a result she typically relies on the weaponry the suit originally had built into it. PERSONALITY: Dawn is generally upbeat, and her transformation hasn’t changed that, though the trauma of it is still fresh on her mind, and her mother’s betrayal cuts like a great ragged wound across her soul.

  23. Re: Campaign Newspaper I do something very similar in my fledgling campaign, "Sparks Fly." Every game session I put out a 1 page broadsheet of news items relevant to the campaign. The idea is to (a) provide clues. ( let the players see how the world responds to their actions © give the campaign world a sense of independent existence. The broadsheet is called INK ON THE ANVIL and this is Volume 1 issue 3. DR. NOX CAPTURED Denver —AP In a stunning raid last night, Denver police captured the alleged serial kidnapper and murderer known as Dr. Nox. Following the lead of an anonymous tipster, the police traced Dr. Nox to his hideout in Commerce City. Police spokesman, Aaron Frazier, says that an elite S.W.A.T team raided the premises, which was guarded by a number of local gang members. After a brief gun battle, Dr. Nox whose real name is, Dr. Gerard Busman, who has a variety of PhDs in biology and chemistry, was apparently supplying the gang members with designer drugs in exchange for helping him with his psychotic crimes. One of Dr. Nox’s victims, who has not been named, was recovered from the scene. Dr. Nox got his name from an eyewitness who identified a box in the back of a white delivery van used to kidnap Latisha Bones. The box, recovered by police, had been modified to flooded with Nitrous Oxide, an anesthetic gas that kept his victims compliant by putting them to sleep. Police believe Latisha Bones may have died as an overdose of the gas. Her body is still being sought. +++ JOE “SUPERMAN” JOHNSON SIGNS ENDORSEMENT DEAL Milwaukee, WI—AP Officials at Anheuser Bush, America’s largest beer company, today announced that they have cornered a brand new market. Company spokesman, Charles Snaubbery said, “Today marks a historic occasion. There are no more recognizable brands of beer in America, or indeed the world than those brands marketed by Anheuser Bush. In addition to the stellar quality of our products, many people enjoy the enduring quality of our mascots, the Budweiser Clydesdales, the Budweiser Frogs, and the Budweiser NASCAR team. Now, I am proud to announce the latest addition to our list of icons. We have signed an exclusive marketing agreement with Joe “Superman” Johnson, and he will be making his first appearance at a major public venue in the near future.” Joe “Superman” Johnson was not present for the interview. +++ PARIS RECOVERING FROM SPARK BLAST Paris, France—AP Eighteen Months after a large chunk of downtown Paris was annihilated in the an explosion attributed to an Ethiopian Spark, signs of life are beginning to return to Paris France. Scaffolding like a great scab covers the wounded flank of the fabled cathedral of Notre Dam, and teams of archaeologists work round the clock to recover priceless antiquities from the wreckage of the Louvre. The great crater caused by the blast eventually caused more damage to the city than the blast itself by shattering the banks of the Sein and allowing the river to infiltrate the city’s extensive underground infrastructure. Several neighborhoods bordering the river had to be condemned because their foundations had become saturated with polluted water. In a controversial move the civic government displaced thousands of immigrants from their neighborhoods into refugee camps to make room for native Parisians who had been forced from their homes. After the riots that resulted from this, hundreds of immigrant leaders were forcefully deported. Today, the blast crater has become a city lake, and the area around it has been redeveloped to support a brisk tourism trade. Most of the city’s displaced residents have been relocated to newly constructed high rise condominiums on the edges of their old neighborhoods. Not all is rosy, however, as racial tensions remain high, and France’s inefficient economy reels under the huge cost of such public works. +++ DEATH TOLL FROM NEBRASKA TORNADO RISES Nebraska—AP After a force five tornado swept through Anselmo Nebraska, two young people were discovered missing. Search teams have been scouring the tornado scoured region for Rudy Mason (16) and Ulla Hickenmeyer (15). Today State and County research teams, aided by volunteers and Members of the The Corps. Cristie, discovered the mortal remains of Rudy Mason, beneath the shattered wreckage of an oubuilding near where the Tornado is thought to have shut down. Said, search and rescue coordinator, Tom Deerfield, “We suspect that the two children, who were known to be close friends saw or heard the tornado coming and sought shelter in the barn, which, unfortunately, did not stand up to the force of the event. “So far we have found no trace of Miss. Hickenmeyer and we maintain hope that she is alive.” +++ Paid Advertisement: Sparkle Juice Bottled Spark! Do you have the spark in you? 24. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... What makes this even funnier is that "Ohio" means "morning" in Japanese. (The Romanji is spelled differently, but it's pronounced O-hi-o.)
  25. Re: WWYCD "super" registration Oh, very bad law. Anything that punishes someone for simply for being rather than actually for doing is fundamentally bad law. Thunder Who is Jewish and whose grandmother mother, Donner, fought the Nazis in WWII, would see this as another potential holocaust. She's do everything she could to stop it. If she could not stop it, she'd go underground and keep fighting the law. Query Whose powers come from "The Book of Ultimate Answers," would assume the govt. would steal the book if they knew about it. After all, it purports to have all the answers to everything in it. She'd fight the law. If unsuccessful, she'd leave the country.
