  1. Re: Signs your Champions GM is now (fill in the blank) I like how this is basically a fancy way of saying that the reviewers gave it a bad review because they didn't like it.
  2. Re: Takes No Damage From Attacks Thanks. My interpretation seemed like it would be more than a +1/4 or +1/2 advantage.
  3. I was designing a villain for an upcoming game, and I was looking at the Takes No Damage From Attacks advantage for Entangle. What exactly does this mean? Is the only way to escape to use the entangled character's strength?
  4. Re: Signs your Champions GM is now (fill in the blank) 8) For the last session, he told half of the players to not bother showing up. He told everyone who did show up not to come next time.
  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... My group finally got around to starting our Champions Christmas adventure. This came up while our mutant was trying to rescue about thirty mall Santas from Foxbat's mind control, after he had stolen Foxbat's Kringle Kontrol hat. Grav: "Santas, I do not ask you to attack, for that is not in your nature. Instead, I ask you to condemn, for he has been naughty!"
  6. Is there a canon superteam in the CU called the Speedway Six? The GM of our group swears that he saw a mention of the group in a CU book, but now he can't find them. We came up with a roster for them, and had a lot of fun doing it, so we want to know if they're "real" or just something we came up with.
  7. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Our GM hadn't prepared all his NPCs fully, so he had to make some of the descriptions up on the fly. He was describing a hacker we had just met. GM: He looks frumpled. Party: Frumpled? Is that even a word? Gm: Hey, I have a vocabulary. I just choose to use it for evil.
  8. Re: 12 Days of Hero System On the eighth day of Christmas, my GM gave to me... Eight foes to fight Seven ninjas leaping SIX Inches of Running FIVE EXPERIENCE POINTS Four ultimate books Three dee six Two sidekicks And Hero System Fifth Edition Revised!
  9. Re: How Strong are the Crowns of Krim
  10. Re: Age and Sanction? I would think that he wouldn't get much respect from the supers around him, both hero and villain. He'd probably have trouble being taken seriously, and he might even be mistaken for a sidekick until he's well known. It depends how much you want to play with it and the ages of the other heroes.
  11. Re: The klutzy government liaison Captain SuperPatriot! He's the most patriotic of all heroes. You can tell because it's in his name.
  12. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... From a game of exalted, while playing through my character's exaltation: "Crap, we montaged through the harvest! Now we're gonna starve!"
  13. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... We're playing our Teen Horror Champions game, and our group is waiting at the place where we know that our enemies are going to attack next. We have the area mapped out on a hex grid, and we're putting ourselves on the battlefield. We use dice to represent our characters. I'm looking through my dice bag, and I find a novelty die I bought a while back. My character is the anarchist punk who doesn't like society, so this is even more applicable than for most teens. Me: "I'm being a d16 because no one understands me!" The group laughs for a bit, and then I say to the GM (who is a firm believer in the awesomeness of 7th Sea): "Can I have a drama die?" GM: "Yes. You get a teenage drama die."
  14. Re: Your PC's might be underpowered if... But if he did buy some DCs, that would be a hilariously effective style.
  15. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... So in our only mildly teen champions horror game, the enemies of our first adventure are a small cult with these creatures at its command that were described to us as basically a cross between a panther and a newt, plus various nastiness. Since none of us knew what the beasts were called, we decided on the name panewt. A cultist kidnaps a girl, and we follow him to the cult's hideout. We arrive to see the girl chained to a pillar, with a ritual being performed on her. As we take this all in, the ritual finished and she transforms into a panewt. Zio (on point): They turned her into a panewt! Rest of the party (ooc): Does she get better?
  16. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... During a Champions game, I tried to sneak attack Dark Seraph with a move through, but rolled three 6's, which is a bad enough portent on it's own. "How do you shoot the devil in the back? What if you suck?" While playing our Teen Champions/Horror game, I was grabbing an agent of the villain who had escaped by opening a portal and diving through last time we tried to capture him. This time, he opened the portal directly beneath us, and we both fell through into a place that looked rather unpleasant, and we found out later is called the caverns of despair. As the portal closed, I shout maniacally: "Hahaha! He can't escape now!"
  17. Re: Elements, Energies, and Wierd Science Here's a real example: Astatine: Astatine is a relative mystery to scientists. It has been shown to be both reactive and extremely radioactive, having a half-life of only 8 hours. It is the rarest of the naturally occuring elements on Earth, with only about 1 Oz being in existance at a time. As a halogen, it is reactive, but does not last long enough for most long term uses.
  18. Re: WWYCD: Super Pets Assemble! Solar Flare: A dog named Sun Spot
  19. Re: Getting Rid of Killing Attacks How I'd do it is make it so that all weapons wielded by unskilled hands (ie. anyone you want the PCs to be able to deal with normally) is a normal attack. Then, the PCs have a much easier time dealing with mooks, even if they use swords, but the villian with the sword is still a major problem for anyone without rockhard skin. This has the added benefit of making the game more like an action movie (like Feng Shui is supposed to be). For the majority of the adventure, the heroes are getting their action hero on as they don't have to worry as much about the mooks' guns, but when they run into the villian, they start actually having to worry about his mystic sword. This makes the big challenges a little tougher, and thus, more rewarding.
  20. Re: VVP and AP limits It depends on the modifiers on the framework and what the player wants the framework to do. I'd never allow a Cosmic VPP to push the Active limit, and I'd be iffy about a maxed AP VPP with no skill roll or reduced alteration time. Some VPPs, though, I'd have no problem with. For instance, if the gadgeteer wanted to have a 60 AP VPP with the understanding that he couldn't use it to one-up another player, I'd probably allow that, because a gadget pool or the like is limited enough that it lets the player do what they want without letting them do everything.
  21. Re: Suprised foes and noise Random chance has no place in Hero
  22. Re: Suprised foes and noise There is more than one way to alert your allies that you've been attacked. If the attacker isn't close enough (say they used a silent ranged weapon), the sound of the body hitting the floor could alert nearby guards. Use dramatic sense and genre conventions to determine what happens.
  23. Re: Universal Translator: Overpriced at 20? I'd allow this in my game, but that's because it's superheroic and language doesn't come up very much, so 20 points would be a little much for something that won't be used very often.
  24. Re: Door opened in an airplane in flight. What next? I'd use it as a TK, with STR based on proximity to the door. Basically, make a STR vs STR roll every round or get sucked towards the hole. I'd probably allow dex rolls to reduce distance travelled by grabbing seats and the like.
  25. Re: Life Support: Longevity? 1. I consider it more of a flavour thing than anything else. Mostly, it's just spending points to brag and be immune to aging attacks 2. My main (and, unfortunately, only) current Champions character has it. 3. Immortal
