mattingly reacted to Pariah in What Have You Watched Recently?
Having a little more free time than anticipated the last couple of days, I finally got to watch Moon Knight. I like it quite a lot. I always thought Moon Knight was one of the more interesting characters in the comics, and Oscar Isaac did an amazing job playing the two sides of the character. Ethan Hawke's character made for a compelling foil. Obviously the guy and what he stood for were completely out of line, but I can see how someone could be drawn in by that philosophy. The final battle between the gods and their avatars was suitably impressive. It was good to see Khonshu victorious, even though he's kind of a d*ck.
And I have to say that while I was not expecting that mid credit scene in the final episode, I totally should have seen it coming.

They're just trying to normalize grim dark dystopia, in hopes that we won't stop them.

I'm having a hard time distinguishing between snakes and turtles this morning. Apparently I'm suffering from a reptile dysfunction.

Well, 5 years later. Watching Morbius. Much less stupid than I was expecting.

"Far Beyond the Stars" is one of the greatest episodes ever ... not just of DS9, not just of the Star Trek franchise, but of any television series, ever.

mattingly reacted to Old Man in Marvel Cinematic Universe, Phase Three and BEYOOOOONND
Risked covid last night to see Thor Love & Thunder in the theater. I expected maximum Taika Waititi silliness out of this one, and my expectations were met if not exceeded. Christian Bale and Natalie Portman were well worth the price of admission--especially Portman as Mighty Thor. I'd put this one somewhere around GotG2 on the MCU continuum; uneven but still good. That said, if you didn't like Ragnarok or Dude Thor, or you are excessively serious about the source material, you might want to wait for this one to come out on streaming.

Anthony Jeselnik tells this story about his neighbor who has Alzheimer’s.
"One of my next door neighbors is a 90 year old man suffering from Alzheimer’s. And every single morning at 9am he knocks on my door and asks me if I have seen his wife.
Which means that every single morning at 9am I have to explain to a 90 year old man suffering from Alzheimer’s that his wife has been dead for quite some time.
Now I’ve thought about moving. I have thought about just not answering my door in the morning. But to be honest, it’s worth it… just to see the smile on his face.”
